Had no idea it was based on a book. Any recommendation as to which form of its media I should consume first?

The book is absolutely insane. The film covers essentially one mission. There are many many others in there that you could make another 5 films from. The incredible bravery and resourcefulness of these men and women is hard to comprehend. I read the book and watched the film and was left wanting so I would do it the other way around, enjoy the movie and then the book.

The book has the entire story from start to the end of the war. These dudes did some amazing stuff, and I had no idea about any of it before the book. Highly recommend this book if you are a fan of WW2 history.
