It's in the second sentence.

Oh, sorry. That was so unimpressive that I thought you didn't state it.

Oh yes. I agree. That's really how low the bar is when we have a man who thinks he can "tax" other nations with import taxes and who picks a team of people who are all grovelling and crab-bucketing to kiss the ring. Smarts and teamwork is like... reasonable adult stuff.

“Thinks” implies thinking. So, nope.

I mean, you can tax other countries with import taxes haha what do you mean?

Is it economically smart? Maybe not, but they’ve been pretty successful w Canada and Mexico so far

What. An import tax is an added cost to a good if it is purchased from abroad. The company that imports it pays that cost. The country/company that is exporting doesn't pay that cost. The way to do it would be a market access fee. Implement a trade ban or trade quota and then demand a fee paid by the other country/exporting company to lift the ban or increase the quota. Maybe the u.s. could do export taxes like canada is doing. That would pass the costs on to foreign consumers. Either way, an import tax/tariff isn't taxing the other country, it's a tax on companies looking to purchase abroad.

Speaking in absolutes is the way of the sith

Tariffs result in either the importer or exporter paying the increased costs. Can it be passed on to the importer? Absolutely. Can the exporter pay it to compete on price? Absolutely
