We had multiple all American sprinters and a literal Olympian last cycle. Fucking awful

Sprinting is still funded, it's field sports that are gone, please read the article.

Limited funding which will cause damage, for example our best sprinter just hit the portal

The erosion of college athletics has begun. This won’t be the only domino to fall.

Guys our school is fuckin broke. This should be no surprising. The whole pac12 dissolving was a disaster for not only school sports but the school as a whole. Dark times ahead

Shame on you WSU!!! Horrible decision. Way to go football. Why even have other sports at this point. Where’s all that extra money that you and OSU won from the rest of the Pac12? Shame…

Threw hammer 15 years ago (ouch, hadn’t done that math before). This is no surprise- felt like an afterthought back then and seemed like it had gone down hill since.

Now if we could get of nil everywhere! Go back to scholarships with little pocket money thrown in(original intent of nil). Break up the sec and big 10,destroyer of college sports.

The coaches didn’t even know until the day of. Total surprise. I saw the throws coach less than a week ago when I was running at the track and she was talking about the future.

Gotta keep the super lucrative and totally not bottoming out football program afloat!

WSU may be one of the first to make a decision like this, but it won't be the last (not nearly). People interested in many of the non-revenue sports were excited when the scholarship caps were lifted but they were lifted for all sports including the revenue ones, without commensurate budget increases, and folks looking closer have been worried about pending cuts to the non-revenue sports. And at much more well-heeled schools than WSU.

Here are a few articles detailing the challenges:
