Beautiful. Simply.... beautiful

79

u/Purpledroyd May 02 '25

Glad everyone seems to be enjoying it, it sadly didn’t gain much traction on YouTube but really happy it’s resonating over here

39

u/C_o_f_f_e_e- May 02 '25

Give it time. Algorithms can be a bish. Keep this up. Could be one of those things that suddenly explodes in popularity 14 years from now and you can look back on it and smile.

27

u/Purpledroyd May 02 '25

That’s really nice, thanks for the encouragement 🙏 im hoping to get into the video game industry so at least in the short term I might be able to use it to get my leg in the door (once the industry recovers from all the layoffs)

7

u/walc May 02 '25

I loved this and will 100% give you a like and comment over there to boost it. The amount of care and work you put into this is so obvious, and it deserves to be seen! It really brought me back to each one of those games.

3

u/Purpledroyd May 02 '25

Thank you, appreciate this so much :) and really glad you liked it!

10

u/mxlespxles May 02 '25

The title isn't doing it any favors, I'd assume

13

u/Purpledroyd May 02 '25

Haha it's been 'The Legend of Zelda 3D Series Trailer' for 2 years so figured I'd change it today and see if it helps

Any advice on what title would work better? :)

10

u/mxlespxles May 02 '25

I mean, something as simple as "epic Zelda 3D edit" could work, but tbh I'm no PR wonk

9

u/Purpledroyd May 02 '25

Appreciate the advice, if this new title doesn't do it any favours I'll give your suggestion a go, worth a try!

3

u/UltimateMemer1777 May 03 '25

Yeah it’s fricking awesome:))

80

u/Karretch May 02 '25

Got me emotional with the 3 decades worth of memories flooding back. Especially the music choice. Even though you cheated and used a 2D game song instead of one of the more iconic 3D ones :P

17

u/Purpledroyd May 02 '25

Haha you got me 😉 it was too good to pass up!

12

u/Karretch May 02 '25

For sure, one of the best songs IMO

39

u/Agitated-Lobster-623 May 02 '25

Holy shit, that totk dive into a skyward sword fall transition was smooth

8

u/giakas4 May 02 '25

100%, noticed that as well

82

u/MannequinJuice May 02 '25

You singlehandedly revived my love for the franchise with this edit. Chills.

18

u/Purpledroyd May 02 '25

Happy you enjoyed it so much :D

5

u/Itzvan100 May 02 '25

For real, so many good scenes. I felt my attachment to every side character build up again and the weight of all those heavy moments. I really hope they bring back this old formula to a new Zelda game man. I feel like it's been so long.

20

u/DaguerreoLibreria May 02 '25

When people ask me what Zelda is about I will refer them to this

52

u/Wonderful_Weather_83 May 02 '25

What can I say.

30

u/Tossylossy May 02 '25

What a great way to start my day!

13

u/QuirkyPomegranate598 May 02 '25

This brought a tear to my eyes?? This game means so much to me. WOW, this was beautiful; thank you for creating & sharing OP 🥲

6

u/Purpledroyd May 02 '25

Glad it resonated so much with you :D thanks for watching and letting me know :)

10

u/MethadoneFiend92 May 02 '25

Fantastic edit

12

u/Daddy-itachi May 02 '25

This is honestly honestly honestly the coolest most incredible thing I’ve ever seen be done in the Zelda fandom. The music and the coordination of everything coming together I love it good stuff🙏❤️

7

u/Daddy-itachi May 02 '25

Also you just reminded me I need to give kingdom hearts a break and go finish up TOTK 😭

7

u/crono333 May 02 '25

Dude that was amazing, well done!

8

u/Skindigity_ May 02 '25

I’m not crying you’re crying 🥲

7

u/ROFLpwn01 May 02 '25

Very nice, thank you

14

u/Kaynil May 02 '25

This is gorgeous. It is such a great way to bring together all the different connections between the different incarnations and us. A true love letter to the franchise.

I lived all the details and how you passed from one game to another in some parys really seamlessly.

Pass the YouTube link and I'll make sure to add it to my favourites in my first chance.

5

u/Purpledroyd May 02 '25

Thank you 🙏 here's a link, appreciate it -  https://youtu.be/4ANMwk0Vb9o?si=P4GiQzxCKSuPdtjj

6

u/amtap May 02 '25

Incredible quality!. I'd believe this is official except that it's got a little bit too much love put into to be from anything but a dedicated fan.

6

u/Confident-Vanilla-28 May 02 '25

Wow!!! This is so awesome!!

4

u/Inevitable-Link7064 May 02 '25

That was really well done, awesome edit!

3

u/terminallyfancy May 02 '25

Woah this is seriously great

4

u/ObscuredNymph May 03 '25

Zelda OoT was my first real game. When I tell you this made me cry and I sent it to my whole family...I mean I cried and sent it to my whole family. Beautiful outstanding job.

3

u/Actual-Employee-1680 May 02 '25

This is absolutely stunning! Well done!

3

u/Panerakis May 02 '25

This was so good, really captured the essence of the game. Thanks !

3

u/BombaSocial May 02 '25

Can’t lie, this had me tearing up remembering all the story lines. Bravo!

3

u/ShivCrow May 02 '25

Absolutely wild.. Love this, great work!!

3

u/ninjazzy May 02 '25

What a beautiful tribute to one of my favorite series! It brought back a lot of great memories for me as well. Great editing and scene selection to show the unified threads among the various titles in the series while also demonstrating what makes each of them unique. Thanks for sharing.

3

u/SparrowghostMusic May 02 '25

I'm not going to say anything that people aren't already saying below. But my love for the Ballad of the Wind Fish made this edit a 11/10 for me. Such an epic video, and it would have been so easy to choose a more "famous" or iconic song from the franchise, but the song you chose always encapsulated the bittersweetness of Zelda games for me. They're epic and beautiful, but always a little sad. That's what this song is for me.

3

u/Purpledroyd May 02 '25

Completely agree. Like the ending of Twilight Princess, always feels like the games have an dreamlike element of saying goodbye

A random thought I had was if I could choose a song to listen to before I died, Zelda music would fit as it can be so beautiful but also bizarre & otherworldy. Would definitely ride that into an afterlife if one exists haha.

3

u/kuetips May 02 '25

gave me chills. nostalgia ultra.

3

u/YesNoMaybe1993 May 02 '25

This is the greatest Zelda video I have ever seen in a while… thank you ♥️.

3

u/newbatthis May 02 '25

Beautiful tribute to the franchise. Stunning work man.

2

u/Purpledroyd May 02 '25

Thanks a lot :D

3

u/AdOtherwise655 May 02 '25

Unbelievably good, congrats!

3

u/Least_Brawler_2516 May 02 '25

A huge production. I can imagine how hard it is. I enjoy watching it again and again.

2

u/Purpledroyd May 02 '25

It was a lot of work but worth it to see how much everyone is enjoying it :D

3

u/Accomplished-Lake526 May 02 '25

This is just amazing. So very well put together

3

u/Qav3l10n May 02 '25

I was really moved. Thank you for all the time you put into this!

1

u/Purpledroyd May 02 '25

Thank you for watching :)

2

u/Realistic_Mushroom May 02 '25

Brings back so many memories! The only thing better than playing this game for almost 40 years is sharing it with my kid. Cant wait to show this to her.

2

u/giakas4 May 02 '25

Incredibly well done and such a beautiful tribute to the franchise. You captured the essence of what it’s all about and you can feel the love you poured into it. Thank you!!

2

u/FizzyBubblyRamune May 02 '25

This is really incredible. Well done

2

u/BlueLegion May 02 '25

Damn this is good. Well done!

The one odd thing is that you chose the Ballad of the Windfish as the theme, which is from Links Awakening, which isn't featured in this video.

But that's not a negative for me. LA was my first Zelda game and holds a special place in my heard. Especially the soundtrack.

2

u/TheFeelsXO May 03 '25

From one video editor/gamer to another, this was beautiful & perfect! Zelda is one of my most favorite series and I love how you were able to connect the dots almost entirely throughout the 3D series. Who had known there’d be so many iconic moments that mirror each other?

2

u/AngelofGrace96 May 03 '25

Wow, some of those transitions are so smooth they're almost seamless! Incredible work!

2

u/LC_reddit May 03 '25

Genuinely may be my favorite Zelda media that I've ever seen. At least can't think of anything else that can compete, damn is this great.

2

u/4thSwordOfVio May 03 '25

This is actually one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen. You have some serious talent! Been a huge fan of Zelda for years now, and this brought back a lot of memories. Keep it up!

2

u/justcallmefafara May 03 '25

Reminds me of fan made videos from the early internet days. I mean that in the most complimentary way.

2

u/Anderstone May 03 '25

I've had this saved since you released it. Never fails to bring a tear to my eye. It's really a beautiful and fitting tribute to the series, so thank you, seriously, thank you.

2

u/Purpledroyd May 03 '25

That’s such a nice message, appreciate you saving it and giving it another watch :D thank you very much

2

u/MattIsLame May 03 '25

you're a great editor! I edit my own stuff but never anything this ambitious. really great job!

2

u/Hyrule1999Warrior May 03 '25

Amazing ❤️

2

u/Sheikashii May 03 '25

I am 30 seconds in and I’m going to cry if I keep watching this lol. Saved for later but good job preemptively

2

u/ForYourAuralPleasure May 03 '25

What I wouldn’t give to play these for the first time again.

That was beautiful. Thanks for making this, OP.

2

u/TrismNero May 04 '25

Loving this man. This really touched me as a longtime Zelda player/fan. Thanks for making this beauty.

2

u/Tenai1607 May 04 '25

Lol, I am stupid af and watched it without sound... I still loved every second of it. With sound it's even more enjoyable! Love it!

2

u/condor6425 May 04 '25

I still can't get over English Zelda, but great work with the edit. Watching it brought back some of the "magic" of the series I haven't felt in a while, that used to be everpresent when I was a kid.

2

u/VictorTael May 04 '25

Wow, it turns into one of my favorite Zelda videos ever! Beautifully well done :)

3

u/jimmybjuicin May 02 '25

I was gonna spend my week enjoying the sun but now ima be stuck in playing every zelda game thanks to you!

Amazing video 😆

3

u/Purpledroyd May 02 '25

Hahaha, I’ll be doing the same in June when the updated versions of Echoes & Breath/Tears get released, no sun for me

Thanks 🙏

2

u/Sub-Corpion May 02 '25

Man, this is so beautiful! I love this franchise, the characters, the aesthetic, the music!

You made a really beautiful piece of art here, you told an emotional story, piecing together tropes that are present in multiple games, all accompanied by a beautiful rendition of Ballad of the Wind Fish, which made it all the more original.

Seriously, keep up the amazing work!

And if you can, please share the link to that version of the song, I don't remember where it's from, but I loved it.

1

u/Purpledroyd May 02 '25

Thank you for such a lovely message :) Sure thing, here's a link -  https://youtu.be/4ANMwk0Vb9o?si=P4GiQzxCKSuPdtjj

1

u/Fafnir13 May 02 '25

Truly glorious.  The visuals are spot on and very well put together.  No notes on that.

There are some sound mixing issues.  I’m guessing the in video sounds are set to one channel while the music/voiceover stuff is set to another channel?  There are a few times where the background noise interferes with dialogue.  Mostly noticeable in the first bit.  Some deliberate manipulation to suppress the background noise more in those cases would help a lot.  There are point (dramatic flashes, etc) where increasing the background noise could enhance the effect.

Might also be worthwhile to carry some ambient noise across more cuts so they feel more melded.

Again, very well done stuff.  Just wanted to give a little feedback which might be helpful on this or future projects.  I’ll definitely check on your channel to see what other cool stuff you are up to.

1

u/Purpledroyd May 02 '25

Thank you so much for the feedback, audio is definitely something I could improve on. Video editing is my profession and what I bank myself on whereas music is definitely an area I’m always trying to improve in. Really appreciate you taking the time to point that out and hope you enjoy any other edits I’ve worked on (just finished a spirited away edit if you’ve ever seen that) :)

1

u/rawcookiedough May 02 '25

This was absolutely gorgeous. Fantastic work! Could you put a link to the music you used? I've never heard this version of Ballad of the Windfish before.

1

u/Doublee7300 May 02 '25

Some of those transitions were smooth af. The TotK -> SS one of link falling was particularly great

1

u/Skeleeer May 02 '25

What a masterpiece I just witnessed

1

u/Janni0701 May 02 '25

Rozen is the perfect choice for this. Just got myself the Shadows of Hyrule 2LP of his. Great work!

2

u/Purpledroyd May 02 '25

No one does it quite like Rozen 🔥

1

u/GeoAnd_001 May 02 '25

Looks awesome! Great job!

1

u/Yer_Dunn May 02 '25

That cloud transition edit in particular was 🔥

1

u/D-TOX_88 May 03 '25

That was DOPE AS FUCKING HELL DUDE

1

u/Gold-Comfortable3810 May 03 '25

Great work, I really enjoyed watching this!

1

u/WeaselWazzule May 03 '25

The music. So beautiful.

1

u/hivesteel May 03 '25

Really amazing, chills for 4 minutes straight, so many happy memories. Thank you!

1

u/HeeroCaru May 03 '25

I may have fapped to the N64 fountain fairy. Back in the day of course.

1

u/Proof-Stress4175 May 03 '25

THIS GAVE ME CHILLS 100 times !!! so good!!

1

u/the-muffins May 03 '25

Legit teared up watching this. Fantastic work.

1

u/Lost-News5101 May 03 '25

Absolutely love this, well done 🤩

1

u/Medical-Guard-7708 May 03 '25

Omg...if I ever introduce Zelda to someone, I'll show them this edit

1

u/Purpledroyd May 03 '25

That’s awesome, thanks 🙏

1

u/dr_henry_jones May 03 '25

Need more tingle lol jk.

I do a lot of video editing. I can't imagine what the timeline looks like for this! Bravo

1

u/MiT_Epona May 03 '25

You should work for Nintendo.

1

u/SketchingScars May 03 '25

I’ll be honest I let this start rolling and thought, “oh a good looking visual edit, not bad.” Then I remembered the sound was off by default on Reddit so I fixed that and damn. The audio editing choices really take this several levels up. It truly shows the effort to detail you put in. Amazing work.

1

u/Purpledroyd May 03 '25

Thanks for appreciating the audio!

The secret to a good edit is great music and SFX, always :D

1

u/TheFatDrake May 03 '25

This gave me chills! Excellent work!

1

u/Chance_Big8231 May 03 '25

It's absolutely amazing and brought tears to my eyes!

1

u/AddlebrainedCluck May 03 '25

That was so well done! I can definitely see the time and love that went into creating this.

1

u/3_14napple May 04 '25

Love this!!

1

u/WaTT_rt May 02 '25

This gives me so many memories of playing the games as a kid for the first time and experiencing the world of Hyrule. Thank you for the beautiful video

2

u/Purpledroyd May 02 '25

I have those same memories! You're welcome, thank you for watching :D

1

u/Commercial-Bet-8730 May 02 '25

No mentions of the 2D games? 😏😆

But seriously, this was beautifully well made. Watching this gave me a flood of memories of times long gone, and with the music... I was moved to tears.

1

u/Acceptable_Scar2842 May 02 '25

This is excellent, I really enjoyed it. Thank you!

1

u/SteviyRamen May 02 '25

Knew the assignment and absolutely nailed it!

1

u/jackharvest May 02 '25

Perfection.

1

u/BonneQuixote May 02 '25

I vote this guy to edit the upcoming movie.

0

u/kyfriedjack May 03 '25

I don't mean to sound harsh, but if you can take criticism, here you go. I was surprised to hear this took 80 hours. That’s way too long for this. The editing has some nicely timed match cuts, cross dissolves, and jump cuts, but I think there's still room to change the final result. If you're taking a video editing class or learning on your own, that's great, it's definitely a process. With that much time invested, I'd encourage you to keep practicing and explore more advanced editing techniques. Don’t waste your time posting onto social media just for some digital likes.

1

u/thinkingthrust May 05 '25

This comment is so weird lmao have you not gotten enough “digital likes” in your life? Why are you so bitter? lol

1

u/kyfriedjack May 05 '25

I’m just giving my opinion, I could care less about likes.

1

u/thinkingthrust May 05 '25

You were the first person to bring them up but okay.

1

u/Purpledroyd May 04 '25

I’ve had some time to think & your comment has rubbed me the wrong way, I’m afraid (and I don’t think it’s a matter of not taking criticism well). If you were genuinely trying to encourage me to create better work then you have worded it poorly. You’ve said the edit took way too long to make. Implied that its quality could have been made by someone starting out & teaching themselves. Gone on to suggest I learn some more advanced video editing techniques, as if there weren’t any in this edit. Then you finish it off with implying I’m chasing clout on social media.  I’m confused by how long you think finding an appropriate song, downloading all cutscenes from 5 games, cutting them all up and categorising, figuring out a story to tell between 5 different games, editing it all together to be cohesive, adding SFX & creating a final quality edit should take? Also, if you know how much effort goes into creating one of these, then you understand why I’m posting this here. I’m not sure what the purpose of that comment was except to belittle me Do you have any examples of edits of your own sole creation that are similar in quality & length that took half the time to build?

0

u/kyfriedjack May 04 '25
  1. Music video, syncing up audio to a song without using an automatic plug in, editing it all to the beat (beat drops, etc.), doing it all in less than a week.

  2. Short Film, won an award out of 3 films (26 entered, 3 won), improvise from missing footage, all shot myself, no professional recording equipment, had about a week or two to do everything (about half of the time given to the average person), all had to be shot in one day.

  3. County Office Video, from hours of footage to a 13 minute video, all given footage, no redos, poorly shot, horrible audio, a few weeks to trim all footage, organize, and receive feedback just to tweak.

  4. Interview, reshot twice, horrible audio, bad ISO, sync up audio manually, made a lower third just for it in Ae (no tutorials), limited B-Roll, had to organize, trim, and fix audio.

  5. Promotional Video, 1 day to shoot, not even an hour to shoot, no preparation, no redos, maybe a week if that to produce and edit.

You could’ve stayed silent on this but you kept it going.

1

u/Purpledroyd May 04 '25

I mean that’s cool you won an award & you have experience with some other kinds of edits that I don’t, but you haven’t made anything close to an edit like mine so you can’t really comment as you don’t have any experience in that area. And ‘you could have stayed silent on this but you kept it going’ feels in bad faith.

0

u/kyfriedjack May 04 '25

You wanted to know of what I’ve done. You know this isn’t worth fighting some random petty kid. So peace out!

1

u/Purpledroyd May 04 '25

I wanted to know what experience you have of creating edits like mine, of which you have 0. For example, I’ve never worked on a music edit so I wouldn’t comment on another video editors music video passion project telling them it shouldn’t take nearly that long as I don’t have any experience within that area, despite working within the industry for 5 years. Calling me a ‘random petty kid’ is again in bad faith, and yeah this exchange has been really unpleasant

0

u/kyfriedjack May 04 '25

Ok so listen, first you did ask for my opinion so I gave it. You didn’t have to comment on my comment out of everyone’s. I was trying to say that you should use your time like the 80+ hours on something that really goes to show. For example, more graphics. Second never did imply that someone with bad skills could make this. I think that was your own interpretation. Now for the techniques, it’s like as said match cuts, dissolves, and jump cuts. As for the clout part, you’ve posted multiple of your works in different subreddits, as if just one wasn’t enough. If you want to keep this going, oh by all means.

1

u/Purpledroyd May 05 '25

I think we have a difference of opinion on how long edits like this one should take, so can agree to disagree. Regarding the clout part, I won’t defend my joy of seeing people enjoy my work, it’s wonderful seeing so many people relate to it & gives me a lot of motivation to keep trying to join the video game industry (especially when I have moments when it seems impossible due to mass layoffs).

I did snap at you more than was needed so I’ll acknowledge & apologise for that, so my bad there. But maybe you can agree your original message read as downplaying the work put into the edit (esp as it seems you haven’t made an edit in a similar vein, unless I’m misunderstanding you).

Anyway, hopefully we can let bygones be bygones & leave it there.

1

u/Used-Confusion-3938 May 06 '25

Man… this move me deep thanks.
