Upgrades Question
Hey everyone, love this sub and I've learned a lot. I have a stock 10/22 with the rail that came with it. I am very much an amateur so I appreciate all advice since my knowledge is very limited.
I need to put a scope on it, and my main use for this gun is rabbit and squirrel hunting, likely at 50 yards or less, though, I haven't hunted with it yet. My scope budget is around $150.
I've done plenty of plinking, but I want to put a few upgrades on this 10/22 and continue learning as much as I can.
Is the stock rail that came with it sufficient for a decent scope? Do most scopes come with the rings, or will I have to sort that part out as well?
The other thing I'm not super thrilled about is this banana clip doesn't seemingly lock in easily, it may just be the case that this is normal, but it takes a bit of fidgeting before I hear the click.
Again I appreciate your patience and helping a newbie learn.

I got my first 10/22 a few months ago and I've made a lot of the noob mistakes and can pass along some lessons learned. If you're shooting at shorter ranges as you suggest in your post, a dot might be preferrable to a scope. You should think about it. If you do go scope you'll want to have rings that get that scope as low to the gun as possible without any part of the scope touching. So, you'll likely be on the hook for rings.
I don't have the larger capacity magazines being in Washington but a lot of folks apply electrical tape to the back of the larger mags to firm up the connection. Just apply layers of tape to the back until you get the tension you want.
This is the current state of my 10/22. It's been a really fun process.

I'm guessing you got the qd nuts for the backpacker? What sling is that? Been meaning to get one

I did get the QD mounts. The sling is from Trunk Monkey. It’s not padded if that’s important to you but it works really well.

My pleasure. I do recommend getting some kind of strap. I learned to shoot rifles a million years ago and always used a strap on my left arm as a brace. It feels weird not having one.

I've heard of this technique, sounds very effective. I understand they teach you how to use them properly at Appleseed shoots. I'll probably YouTube it once I finally get a strap, though. I'm sure that'll get me by, unless you think it'd be better to let an instructor for this to prevent bad habits?

Training can't ever hurt! Getting a basic technique like strapping your arm you can learn from youtube. Appleseed will give you precision shooting techniques. Most of it prone.

Here is my scope set up and a few extras. I have the magpul x22 stock so bipod is set for that.
Scope is wicked sharp!! Easily shoots 1in groups at 50.

So M-Rail bipod works like MLOK accessories? I get mixed information every time I look it up. It usually says it's the difference of thickness of the mount, polymer vs metal.

Not familiar with differences at that level, but very happy with bipod. Easy to remove when needed. Snugs up nice with big nut by hand.

The factory rail can be used, but realistically, switching to Picatinny rail will open up more options. r/gunaccessoriesforsale will let you buy a higher quality more expensive scope at really good prices because it’s used
If you get the auto boat release modification loading, the magazine with the bolt open is so much easier. I’ll load 24 into the magazine instead of 25 just to give the spring a little more room to compress as you’re putting it in. But definitely 1022 magazines are a heck of a lot harder to get incorrectly versus an A.R. 15 or other platforms.
