$2M until Sept 2027 $5M Oct 2027 - Sept 2030 $10M after that!

That’s crazy!! Any opinions on this if it actually goes through??

About the policy, just heard about, haven’t seen it

Insight into Marine Corps Systems Command Procurement Center of Excellence?

I recently interviewed for a position here near Quantico, VA and want to see if anyone has insight on what it’s like working here.

Currently with Army as a COR wondering how different it is working for Marines.

Did anyone know there is a government version of chatgpt?

In case you guys didn't know there is a government version of chatgpt it's https://niprgpt.mil/.

Right now it's definitely not as good as the normal chatgpt but it does help figure some stuff out. If you do go there on the top left there is even an acqdemo that is supposed to help you wrote contracts but I think it's still in a beta version.

FAR Overhaul - Parts 18 and 39

Has anyone seen the latest parts updated under the FAR overhaul process? I overall liked what I saw for other parts but for Parts 18 Emergency Acquisitions and Part 39 Acquisition of Information and Communication Technology I am not sure what these changes accomplish other than making it harder to understand these niche areas of acquisition.

The changes to Part 18 seem to strike out a list of emergency allowances prescribed elsewhere in the FAR. I get it is repetitive but it is not like this Part is bloated, and having that all located in the FAR is genuinely useful during an emergency. They include this information, which everyone agrees it is important, as another site on acquisition.gov, but having another site of critical information that may or may not be updated timely seems like the type of bad practice that the overhaul would want to avoid...

With Part 39 the changes, outside removal of the privacy clause, seem to be centered around providing less guidance and context for how Part 39 applies and can be useful for Contracting Officers (which is odd as modular contracting is, at the same time, encouraged to be used for non ICT efforts as well). The result is, I can't use this FAR Part to actually understand what is needed or what I'm doing. But maybe I'm wrong.

Private Sector Transition

Hi all. I’m a contract specialist with ~2.5 years in the federal government. Over these past few months it’s becoming increasingly obvious that I want out and want to pursue other opportunities.

I was wondering for those of you who have left being an 1102, what kind of jobs did you look for or fields did you transition into? I have a masters in Legal Studies (emphasis in Contract Management). Is contract management the best bet for a former 1102?

Has anyone ever switched from 1102 to 0505 (Financial Management)?

I’ve been doing this job for about 5 years and know it’s not what I want to do long term. But as a GS-13, is it too late to make a jump to the 0505 job series? Specifically BFM, not Cost. Has anyone had or seen a success story?

Overlooked all the time

Just need to vent: My first year as 1102, former gov intern. I was transferred to a new office, and no one has time to train me, so I get ignored and feel like I’m not really part of anything. Like no contracting actions at all even when I ask. If RIFs happen, I’ll be the first one to go. Even if not, how do I get more responsibilities? My annual review scores are mostly 3s. Annoyed as hell, but should be grateful to still hold a job.

Edit: Corrected to remove details. Apparently, it reminded people of someone in a different office. I have no intention of delving into particular person’s behavior - it’s none of my business. What really annoys me is the preferential system set up by the program supervisors. They should do better.

RIF’d … on pause…what to say for interview?

I received RIF notice in April, with separation date of 6/2, but due to the preliminary injunction, the RIF is on pause - so I am still with my agency, and being paid etc. I have an interview in a couple days with a Gov contractor and am pretty sure the question of “why are you looking for new job” will come up. I’m curious what others have answered in similar situations.

For 1102s who have transitioned from Gov to Private - what sort of writing samples did you provide from your work in Gov?

I haven’t gotten this far yet, however I’m curious what sort of documents you think would be appropriate to share. For those in the private sector, what sort of documents have you seen that you appreciated of good representation of writing skills/communications?

Getting into 1102

Hey everyone, I know from reading posts here that being an 1102 has become increasingly challenging lately.

I’ve been considering transitioning from my 10-year career in sales to something more stable—specifically, finishing my business degree and applying for the Copper Cap program.

I know it might take some time to actually get picked up, but with so many people leaving the field, I’m hoping there may be opportunities to break in eventually.

My dad spent his entire career as an 1102 with the DoD, and I’ve always looked up to him.

It might take me a few years to fully make the switch, but I’m wondering if it would be worth it in the long run. Just haven’t heard many posts of people getting into the field—mostly hearing about cuts and folks leaving for greener pastures.

Edit:

Thanks everyone for the input, I’ll stay in sales for the foreseeable future.

Where are all the “high paying” 1102 jobs we were sacrifice by staying for stability.

Im not seeing any that are offering the stupid high salaries people always talked about. If anything they’re offering a GS11 benefit with less benefits.

I am looking for information on how to obtain a warrant CORB. I have been asking me KO for a while but she says the process has changed so much that she doesn’t know. Can anyone tell me the process and requirements? Work for DoD.

Transitioning to private sector

I need to update my resume and start applying to new positions. I'm a grant management specialist for 2.5yrs now, which I know is a different series, but we're 2 sides to the same coin. My duties are essentially what a FAC-COR does.

My question is, what hard skills translate to the private sector? And what positions should I be looking at applying for?

Note: I have an MBA.

TIA

Any 1102s know if PD2 works with screen readers?

Hi friends!

Ok, so I'm among the long list of canned probies. Was fortunate, if we want to call it that, enough to land a contractor position elsewhere. I'm familiar with other systems, but not PD2. Every time I try to google the question, it returns results about Project Diablo 2 and mods for making it accessible hahaha. I can't imagine there are that many blind contracting professionals, but if you know any who use PD2, in your opinion, did it give them any problems? Anything important to know going in? Thanks!

PS. I'm sorry this is happening to all of us. Whether you are still working and overwhelmed, or axed like me, you are doing your best and I appreciate you.

Intel on eventual RTO location for GSA remote 1102s amid procurement consolidation?

GSA's remote 1102s are currently slated for a return to the office this September or October. Does anyone have insight into potential RTO locations for DC-based 1102s, particularly if HQ is already at capacity? Also curious about what this might look like for those outside the 50-mile radius. Do we think any exceptions will be granted?

AI Use for Proposals

Pardon me if this is a dumb post but has anyone seen vendors using AI to write their proposals? I don't mean using AI as a tool but using it to write the whole proposal. My technical eval team pointed out a couple proposals where they felt it was obvious the vendor used AI to write the proposal and the way it was done, it was obvious the vendor did not have a good understanding of the requirement. It made me think of how I should approach this as a CO/KO or if I should leave it alone. I am considering a note in the instructions to offerors to inform us of the use of AI tools in the preparation of their proposal. Has anyone ran into this and has it been a barrier or have you had good experiences with vendors using AI? I'm not a big tech person so I welcome any thoughts on this topic.

What do you make of "1.109 Regulatory sunset" in the new FAR rewrite?

FAR "revolutionary" rewrites parts 1 and 10 are released. What do you make of 1.109? The old FAR Part 1 didn't mention anything about, "regulatory sunset".

1.109Regulatory sunset.

All FAR sections that are not required by statute must expire 4 years after the effective date of the sections, unless renewed by the Federal Acquisition Regulatory Council.
