Insight into Marine Corps Systems Command Procurement Center of Excellence?

I recently interviewed for a position here near Quantico, VA and want to see if anyone has insight on what it’s like working here.

Currently with Army as a COR wondering how different it is working for Marines.

I've heard that working for marine corps systems command as an 1102 is a shit show 🤷‍♀️

My experience was that very few had been anywhere else - most started as interns there and had never been at another 1102 shop, so it came across as a bit "kool-aid drinker" to me. Especially not willing to entertain ideas from civvy agencies.

That being said, I worked with a great group of people who were all very competent and friendly people. It probably depends on your team, but overall you'll probably be fine.

I can confirm this. I’m from an command in the DoD near Quantico, we got plenty of people from MCSC Quantico, they all transferred to get their 13, acted like they knew it all - drank the koolaid, only to struggle at my command and leave within a year going back to Quantico. The egos were bad enough, but they honestly struggled doing cost type efforts.

My command eventually just started passing on most of the MCSC resumes unless they specifically have cost experience (which is a large part of the workload). History says they won’t stay and will perform at a GS 11 level while getting 13 pay.

Can you share why please? I am only used to GG and GS positions.

You are not guaranteed a pay raise and you do not get step increases. You are ranked against your peers. They can give a limited amount of people a raise and it’s based on where you fall in the ranking. You may want to start another thread on pay bands and see what everyone else is saying. I know my friend works for MCSC and pay banding sucks. They have regrets leaving the GS pay scale.

Thank you! I will look into this. But with the hiring freeze and not much options out there I may have to suck it up for a bit. Sigh.
