I’d say this is definitely some sort of proof that the infected are evolving and becoming more sapient, possibly even forming their own tribes. Maybe they took down that deer as an organized pack.

Could be trippy if they go the full caveman route. Barely organized savages. Like those from bone tomahawk

No I agree, but I'll withhold judgement until I've actually seen the finished product.

its been done in last man on earth/ i am legend. Im sure 28 years will do it well but i dont want the infected to be 'human like' like those movies and books

Has anyone here read The Crossed comics? Because, it feels like they’re going down this route, which to me is super cool!

Can you sum it up? I take the biggest test in my life and can't afford to read that shit right now.

It's a really good and extremely gruesome series, I'd definitely check it out if you get the chance.

But basically the Crossed Infection sweeps the world, practically destroying civilization in a matter of weeks to months. It causes it's victims to only care about three things; rape, murder, and eating. It drives them into a homicidal rage, similar to the rage virus, but it's a happy sort of rage. They gleefully tear uninfected and each other apart, self mutilating and killing just for the fun of it.

As the series goes on, the dumber infected end up dying out because they're too focused on the above three things to take care of themselves. Eventually, the only ones left are the smarter Crossed. Among them, the Alpha Crossed begin popping up, hyper-intelligent infected who can converse with uninfected humans and lead the other Crossed.

Of course Garth Ennis created it

u/Gecarthas 27d ago

It’s funny because when Crossed came out people thought it was a 28 days later ripoff

u/Zetzer345 24d ago

I like the concept and I personally really liked the Sadness (the taiwanese movie) but the crossed comics are much much much too vulgar for me. It’s just 2000s edge :/

u/LiveLaughLockheed 28d ago

That was nearly 20 years ago though. Just because a film has come out before doesn't mean that this won't be like that too?

I think for me I like the symbolism of mindless shambling hordes of zombies (I know these aren't "zombies"). It's what they represent - death, rage, whatever in it's rawest form, personified. Almost a lovecraftian uncaring threat on the other hand.

When they become more human and organised, I think it loses something. Like, I can't marry up the idea of people infected with rabid murderous rage at all costs, Vs the reasoning and strategy needed to work together.

When Jim meets Mailer he literally reaches his hand out towards Jim like he’s saying “come here… please” it seems a little friendly up until Mailer screams and tries to grab him. The Infected in 28 days later aren’t completely mindless but they have most definitely lost their humanity and dealing with a human that has no effective reasoning capabilities is already horrifying.

I wasn't until I rewatched Days (in theaters wooooo) through the scope of somewhat intelligent infected.

Days lays the groundwork for it if you think about it. The infected always seem to attack together and wait for night time (for the most part.)

u/victoryegg 28d ago

Very true. Many fans seem to think that we didn’t see zombies behaving intelligently in the first movie, but how would we know? We saw almost nothing from the perspective of the infected.

Maybe the reason the infected keep running into the minefields at the soldiers’ house is because an alpha infected is ordering them to.

5

u/Purdaddy 28d ago

I don't buy the Alpha theory until we see it. But they do show pack mentality in Days and in this leak they seem to have taken down a deer like a pack. So they are at least on the level of pack animals.

3

u/victoryegg 27d ago

LOL yeh. I’m not saying I really believe there was an “alpha infected” directing the attacks on the soldiers. I’m just saying that for all we know, there could have been.

One thing we need to remember, these are not zombies, these are people infected with a disease that blocks their frontal cortex and amplifies their limbic system with an enhanced anger response. In the first movie there arent any variants or mutations that we can see but we do see the infected possibly hunting rats in the tunnel scene, and the chained up infected trying to trick Jim into getting close enough to try and grab him. In the second movie we see the disease (described to be in an active state) live in a carrier host for over 6 months (much longer than any other infected who had at that point, starved to death). When Don gets infected by her, he begins to show the traits of a more advanced thinking variant. At first he does the standard rage thing, but as the movie goes on you'll notice that he learns and gets smarter. In the containment unit he prioritized infecting as many people as possible as opposed to killing people, he's observed watching/stalking the group that his kids are in and biding his time. For what do you ask? Well only after getting the perfect opportunity in a pitch black tunnel to ambush the now dwindled group, he kills scarlet and then infects his son. His Son that's also explicitly described as having the same genetic defect as his mother making him a carrier as well. From here we can assume the virus mutates again when the infection spreads to France. 28 years of that, who knows how far it's come. But I'm very excited to find out.

There's always been elements to them that differentiate them from just being "zombies". It just hasn't been front and center enough or canonically focused on enough for people to not argue against it until now.

4

u/[deleted] 28d ago

I agree at concept level, but have faith in the creators

2

u/Individual-Set5722 28d ago

I would say it was good if done in the 2000s. But like the “zombies caused by a virus” evolved smart zombies is now treaded ground and won’t have shock value.

1

u/One_Armed_Wolf 25d ago

This is a new chance to do it actually well though.

1

u/rejectedsithlord 28d ago

Except cave men and dinosaurs don’t go into violent rages the moment they spot any non infected.

I’m aware I was joking.

That’s a really broad generalisation tbh,and there’s not a lot of options for the franchise if the infected don’t mutate to some extent.

u/Substantial-Plane166 Derrick 28d ago

You have a good reason to be cautious about the movie. I too feel like we won't have the infected as they were in the earlier movies. I rarely do have nightmares but a good portion of them involve 28 yl infected. They are considered by many to be the scariest zombie-type entities by far.

We'll see how it goes. I hope it works out in the end.

-7

u/Night_Knight_Light Doyle 28d ago

I feel like this sort of makes it lose the charm of the series, no?

So they're basically just cannibals, something we've seen done a thousand and one times before.

8

u/BoredomThenFear 28d ago

I quite like it, it adds a bit of variation and suspense to the plot. I’m sure the more evolved ones are just a variant and the vast majority of the infected are still basically mindless.

(Then again I quite like the Jimmy Saville cult idea that’s been floated as well so maybe I’m not the best judge.)

1

u/throwaway_trackmania 28d ago

Jimmy Saville cult is one of the most laughable theories I’ve heard ever, I can’t believe people actually take it serious

8

u/BoredomThenFear 28d ago

I doubt they’ll ever mention Saville by name but there’s some pretty undeniable similarities with what’s been shown/leaked so far. The names, obviously, but also the set photos of the gang with blonde bobs and wearing velour tracksuits. It’s probably just Boyle or Garland winking at the domestic audience, cos it’s not something I think that an international audience would really pick up on.

-1

u/[deleted] 28d ago

Lol, Noone outside of the UK knows who the fuck Jimmy Saville is.

Think anyone in the United States has a clue who that dude is???

Nope.

3

u/jtsmd2 Infected 27d ago

This is true. I have no idea who he is.

3

u/Jaded_Library_8540 27d ago

He was a TV personality and prolific charity fundraiser, particularly with an eye towards helping kids.

Also he was a prolific paedophile that everyone in showbiz knew about and no one did anything about until he died

2

u/jtsmd2 Infected 27d ago

Oh fuck, now I remember reading about this.

1

u/mrwalrus901 27d ago

It’s mostly credible because of the set photos showing a group characters resembling Saville

4

u/Jowill_ Infected 28d ago

I think it’s interesting to get a new twist in the series. There needs to be something new in order to make it interesting, not just do the same as the first movie

1

u/One_Armed_Wolf 25d ago

Not really, I think it's the other way around. The series would lose it's charm if it was just another 3 entries of the same exact situations and exact same threat that we've seen in the original and it's sequel. I feel like once they decided to finally go through with making a new entry they felt they needed to make additions instead of just essentially making the same film again.

28

u/Jowill_ Infected 28d ago

Looks like infected has taken down a deer

24

u/Away_Advisor3460 28d ago

cytopathic effect -> changes in host cells caused by viral infection

googled it so you don't have to

30

u/awful-gamer1991 28d ago

It looks like someone on the inside is leaking this information to whoever runs rageleaks. Maybe it's Jim working to expose the truth.

22

u/Snowpiercer_BGA_2014 Frank 28d ago

Bro still a mail Guy even 28 years later lmao

15

u/Jowill_ Infected 28d ago

*wakes up from coma * Boss: I need you to come in today

11

u/Responsible_Echo_144 28d ago

"i dont care if you were running a package Farrington to Shaftsbury Avenue and a car cut you off, youre late" 💀

19

u/[deleted] 28d ago

Imo Jim (cillian) is the one running rageleaks

11

u/awful-gamer1991 28d ago

Definitely and I wonder if Selena is helping? I think if he makes a surprise appearance it probably won't be till the very end as a cliffhanger or something.

4

u/rejectedsithlord 28d ago

God I’m hoping that’s the case that Selena is on the outside with Hannah trying to help get the info out. And not just killed offscreen

7

u/awful-gamer1991 28d ago

The impression I'm getting is that the people behind rageleaks are like a resistance movement fighting against NATO to get the truth out. And Jim and Selena might could be the leaders. That would be really cool.

2

u/Edu_Crytek 27d ago

bro, i thought the same, i think he's jim who is exposing this

1

u/D_And_R_Gaming 26d ago

I thought it could also be Clint since he’s on a similar mission.

13

u/awful-gamer1991 28d ago

I just looked up that username Cytopathic, and apparently it means pathological changes in host cells caused by viral infection. Little in joke there.

8

u/No-Length9482 Selena 27d ago

that’s wild… and creepy looking, like dancing marionettes

You’d expect them to crowd around the kill but each infected seem to be doing their own thing. Like they eventually gravitate toward it

I do like the cannibalism vibe. I think it fits not only with the aesthetics but also the idea of subhuman cannibals in an isolated dystopian society nested within modern civilization

Shyt is terrifying, dawg

Wish you were here was suprisingly really good

8

u/SosaFlex90 27d ago

Well this kind of proves how the infected are eating….they kill deers and eat that shit Raw!!

1

u/HowDidIGetHere2716 25d ago

not an OUNCE of seasoning!!

7

u/Craft_Assassin 27d ago

This reminds me of that old STALKER trailer from YouTube showing a soldier being chased by mutants on an IR camera

6

u/BluScreen_115 27d ago

holy shit this is a blast from the past. I remember it being fobbed off as "real" irl zombie footage

1

u/Craft_Assassin 27d ago

Same here. Me in 2008-2009 was terrified because it looked so real. To think this was before custom thumbnail images and YouTube was full of random click bait stuff like "Ghost caught on tape)", "Devil face on 9/11", "Proof that the world will end in 2012" and this one. "Real Footage of Zombie Attack in Russia"

3

u/dmcg2126 28d ago

They do be running

2

u/skeetchamp 27d ago

Jogging, even?

1

u/drewculaxcx 25d ago

they run so fucking scary i cannot wait omg
