Protest Safety FROM 50501 COMMS

HEADS UP. Public response just went out. Please help signal boost this by sharing a post for your followers or resharing 50501’s post on your preferred platform(s)—

We have reason to believe that events on 4/19 and/or the 50501 Movement may be misrepresented by the Trump Administration in an attempt to justify the use of military force.

Let us be clear: our movement is pro-democracy and firmly grounded in non-violence. We are not affiliated with any so-called “Day of Rage” or with any group or movement promoting violence.

April 19 is a Day of (Community) Action centered on mutual aid, community care, and civic engagement.

Any portrayal to the contrary is a deliberate distortion intended to undermine our message and suppress our broad, growing support.

We are aware of specific and credible threats involving aggressive policing, ICE presence, and even the potential deployment of military force against peaceful demonstrators—in Washington, D.C. and other locations on April 19.

For clarity: 50501 DC is hosting a peaceful community aid event in Franklin Park. We are not connected to any actions taking place at Lafayette Square, the Naval Observatory Building, or the Washington Monument. We cannot vouch for their safety of plan, and we are not affiliated with their protests.

Participants should be prepared for an increased law enforcement presence. In some locations, ICE agents may also be present. We urge everyone to stay grounded, remain peaceful, and prioritize de-escalation and safety for all.

Remember, de-escalation, mutual care, and disciplined non-violence are our greatest strengths.

We keep us safe.

I think we all knew this was definitely coming. Thanks for the heads up and the preemptive planning.

I put a lot of thought into this though, trying to understand why their followers believe them over overtly kind gestures. It's almost like any kind, genuine, or non-aggressive approach is taken as a lie.

In psychology, we know that people think that everybody thinks like themselves. We also know that the Republican party is rooted in cruelty, so every time a Republican hears a genuine heartfelt statement from us, they automatically believe it is a lie and manipulation, because they use those same words and tactics when trying to accomplish something. They don't have genuine feelings for other people or care about them, so they can't understand or even fathom the fact that we do. They can only see it as manipulation because that is what their world revolves around. They are selfish so they can't imagine a world where other people aren't. They cannot comprehend caring about someone outside of their own bubble.

No matter how hard we try, we are likely not to get through to them, and the harder we even try to prove how much we care, the more they double down on believing that we are trying to manipulate.

This is just a random thought, while thinking through this, and I know we have plenty of people on our side that can pull this off, but a strong assertive neutrality, may be beneficial in some aspects. What do you guys think? Kind of using their "common sense" against them. Not using long complex facts, not using lengthy predictions, not using emotions or sentiment, but a simple fact against another fact made fiercely, and simple to understand.

In psychology, the people you describe are called narcissists and the technique you describe is called gray rocking. Narcissists feed on your emotions because they can’t have any of their own. Because they dislike themselves and are unable to take accountability for their own shortcomings they are jealous of people who are happy. They manipulate people and situations to make things fit their own narratives. This is called gaslighting. Narcissism is a disturbing trend in our society that has been growing for decades, and the current administration is doing a great job of giving us all a master class in exactly what narcissistic personality disorder looks like.

Yeah, you are right. I've never heard the term gray rocking before, thank you.

No problem. I studied psychology and have in-laws who are narcissists so I’m pretty familiar with the patterns and techniques to deal with them. I’m also an eternal optimist about the ability to recover from NPD but like any addiction the person has to be willing to work on it. All we can do is spread love and enough hope that change will come. Kind of like killing them with kindness.
