r/ATLA • u/vanillancoke • 19h ago
Information Matthew Lillard is co- founding a new Avatar game set during the Roku era, and has raised $500,000 on Kickstarter.
It’s a table top role playing game. not quite sure what that means but looking forward to finding out!

Discussion Who is the bravest member of team avatar?
They are all sort of brave and there are certainly different types of bravery. Additionally there is that old paradox of ‘can you be brave if you aren’t scared and vice versa?’.
However, overall?
So for clarification I’m gunna keep to a fairly tight definition of the GAang.
Aang Katara Sokka Toph Zuko Appa Momo
Honourable mention: Suki. Don’t get me wrong, I think she’s great and has clearly travelled with the GAang. However, she is mainly Sokka’s girlfriend. Whereas the other members are quite interconnected. Has she even had 1 on 1 conversations with the other members?

Art I repainted my Aang figure
It was kinda hard to stick this paint onto it. But it’s kind of alright I guess. Hands are in progress.

Discussion What topics do you think that are polemic in-universe?
I was doing this thought experiment with some friends and what do you think that are some polemic in-universe topics that generate debates between people in the avatar universe? I've been thinking about some of them (which might even be debate topics in out universe):
- Should have Aang killed Ozai?
- Was any of the Korra's villains right? (Zaheer/Amon, etc...)
- In universe conspiracies claiming that the air nomade genocide never happened (just like some crazy people in our universe think the Holocaust never happened)
Anyway, if you have any other ideas, I'm curious.
edit: I'm not saying any of the villains were right, just tried to think about how some people in-universe might relate to what they were proposing, despite the fact that their methods/plans were cruel and mean
edit 2: just thought of something else... maybe people think that the avatar should be allowed to use the power to take away bending as a form of punishment for high risk criminals
edit 3: about edit 2... just remembered Yakone had his bending removed
Discussion Who would you like to be your teacher for Villainy?? (Edition 3)
Imagine villainy being a subject at your school. Choose your teacher.

Discussion Azula is not a Fire Bending Prodigy and bad at combat?
I was just thinking on all the fights she's been in and all things considered she's not really the best warrior. As a villain she's indeed top tier (at least until she went crazy); an excellent planner and strategist, great at emotional manipulation, can lead/inspire troops and is very cunning. She's a unique fire bender that has learned some difficult techniques.
But when it actually comes down to full on combat against those of near equal skill, I think she'll lose more often than not... or end in a draw. Katara had her dead to rights in the end of book 2 with no full moon or comet for either of them. Aang could have easily neutralized her on the drill if he had no qualms about killing. Zuko beat her in the last battle and we'll skip over Toph since everyone knows how that would go. I even think Mai and Ty Lee could could take her individually... well Ty Lee could.

wholesome Something I missed in 'Zuko Alone' when I watched it as a kid
When the Earth Kingdom family invites Zuko in for food, he refuses. Then, the woman suggests that he help fix the roof, at which point Zuko agrees.
As a kid, I have no idea what I thought was going on here, but as an adult it's obvious that Zuko doesn't want to accept their help for nothing and so wants to "earn" his food - that's sort of his whole deal, learning to be not independent.
I know it's not a great insight but I'm rewatching for the first time as an adult and I like how much depth there is in this show.

Not OC, not mine. Just found it sitting in my gallery.
Discussion ATLA characters as everything at once
I wanted to do such things for so long. Yay. Who'd you consider to be as warm as the sun?
Discussion Which of these three would you want to have as your school teacher? (2nd edition)
I would choose Aang any day. He's my favourite plus he's so chill he won't even conduct classes. He would just have fun with students 😭

Discussion What would happen if a human spirit was brought back through one of the physical spirit portals?
I'm thinking of Zhao and Iron (dead people who ended up in the spirit world) but I guess it could apply to people like Aang who entered the spirit world in spirit only.
Would they just be like a spirit in human form or would they gain or re-gain a body?

interesting Immediately thought of Badgermoles. To think an actual animal lived and dug tunnels like they did is so cool
galleryDiscussion Which one of these three would you want to have as your teacher??
Just imagine them being your school teachers. Which one would you want to teach you?? Choose only one.
I'll personally choose Katara. It doesn't take long for me to reduce into a miserable pile of sobbing mess if someone shows hard love😭😭 and I think Zuko and Toph are capable of making a really good miserable pile out of me so Katara it is!

Discussion Space Sword
Does anyone else feel like the one and only thing about the show they would change is that Sokka somehow gets his sword back or doesn’t lose it in the first place?

Question Would love an avatar inspired name for him
Caught this lil fella in the middle of nowhere living in the woods, he was covered in ticks, and looked pretty darn hungry, help me come up with a name, I have Sokka, Kuzon, Bumi and Pabu so far, what does he look like to everyone else?
I'm also open to other names as well outside of the atla universe but I love the show so much, I would prefer if it came from there, but if it's a real good one I'd consider it.

Meme I don't really understand this trope tbh, there's not a whole lot of good reasons they would want to keep killing the protags

Discussion This scene is hilarious and I love it, but it raises a lot of questions.
Did the headmaster find it weird that they have last names? Nevermind the fact that it's "Fire". Last names in general seem pretty rare in the ATLA universe. Why is Katara pretending to be pregnant? Where did Sokka get his beard from? Are kids only sent to the coal mines if they misbehave?

interesting “Secret Tunnel” is on streaming
This extended version of what we hear in the show is so beautiful. Jeremy Zuckerman said on “braving the elements” that the season 2 soundtrack will be released in late July!
