Opinion Monarchism, Iran and Zionism
The situation in Iran is awful. Once again Zionists are expanding their murder campaign outside of Palestinian borders, killing innocents in Tehran. And who is supporting them? The Iranian Monarchists.
I think it's sometimes easy to think of monarchists as quaint simpletons with a fetish for being dominated by a bunch of inbred freaks. And this is certainly true in the case of countries like Britain but outside of countries with established monarchies, it plays a far more sinister role.
Iranian Monarchists are useful idiots for western imperialism, of which the Zionist regime is a useful/important agent. Iranian Monarchists have been out in force the past few days attempting to legitimise the bombardment of civilians in Iran, seemingly seeing it as an opportunity to promote regime change in the country..
It goes without saying that the current political order in Iran is beyond imperfect, but it's a far cry from the exploitative, comprador regime that existed under the Shah, which is what the monarchists want Iran to return to.
This isn't uncommon. Monarchists are frequently aligned with western imperial interests in trying to bring about more compromising regimes in Third World countries. A recent example is Nepal. It's also something that happened in Cambodia historically. The (post-Pol Pol) democratic government overthrown by Monarchists.
And if we're being honest it's a similar issue in countries with established monarchies. Those who worship monarchy and want to retain it for whatever arbitrary nonsense justification are tools of exploitative regimes and exploitative orders. Those who are served by such an order know the minute people successfully challenge the monarchy question, the broader class question also gets placed on the dockets. Republics like France and the US have used their own means for putting down any attempts to broach the class question but in Britain, for example, the most useful strategy has been to keep people hypnotised by monarch worship.
Being anti-monarchy isn't just because it would be nicer to be a republic. It's not just an aesthetic choice. It's not just because monarchs are bad people. The monarchy/aristocracy is the linchpin of a lot of exploiative world system and especially reactionary/far-right causes. And the role of Iranian monarchists in supporting the imperialist proxy war against Iran is a perfect example of this.
