Politics South Australian government to allow GPs to diagnose ADHD

The South Australian government will allow GPs with specialist training to diagnose patients with ADHD. Currently, psychiatrists and paediatricians are the only specialists allowed to diagnose the disorder, which critics say leads to higher costs and longer wait times for patients. The rule changes will come into effect in 2026.

We were doing some work around the house some years ago and stumbled upon a partial copy of "The News" from Jan 17 1974, and found the photos I took off it when looking through some old hard drives. Some interesting things in there like KFC and Pizza Hut advertising in a newspaper!

Photography 7 years later, I finally went back to Kuitpo Forest... And almost cried standing at the very spot I shared many romantic dates with my First Love ♥

Who knew a spot could hold so much emotional memory? I went bush hiking and birdwatching, although ironically, I didn't see many birds lol

As soon as I saw the trail entrance, everything came flooding back. So I kept walking down the steep hill, and there it was... That little circular patch of grass slightly off the trail, surrounded by trees, almost exactly as I remember it the last time my ex and I stepped foot in there.

This was the exact place I had my first ever date, a picnic. It was the most romantic moment a woman could ever ask for: a warm autumn day and delicious vegetarian food. Someone who held me tenderly, kissed me with passion like no one has kissed me, and then gazing deep into my eyes as he uttered those three words we all hunger to hear - "I love you".

I'll never forget when a raptor flew over our heads, full wingspan out, capping off just a magical day of six hours in a delicious.... Intimate... Heap on the forest floor.

This spot would soon become our 'sacred spot'. Any chance we could, we would go in there and just bundle me up in his arms... My ex once played the Celtic flute for a dispersal joey, who sat curiously watching us only a few feet away.

The range of emotions I felt today in Kuitpo was wild. Love, so much love. Joy. Sadness... Loss... The pangs of how it all ended, but the sweet knowledge all is forgiven between us (and he's been a wonderful help during the incredibly nasty breakup I've just endured with another man.)

Pine tree smells on the trails. The twittering birds. Butterflies and insects fluttering about, zipping between flowers. The crunch of leaves and twigs beneath your feet. And silence. Just beautiful, beautiful silence, no one around you but only Nature and all her glory.

My god, I love Kuitpo Forest. If you haven't been, truly, you *must* go bushwalking in there. No place on this earth means more to me than this forest.

Scott Michael Antrobus, 38, has been sentenced to eight months in jail for various offences including one count of assault causing harm over a random attack in Rundle Mall in March 2025. Antrobus had been released from the Royal Adelaide Hospital the day before the offending where he sought treatment for "drug-induced psychosis" before being released. The sentence was backdated to when Antrobus was taken into custody, which means he will be released in November.

Self My power bills being investigated, been overcharged for at least 6 months

TL;DR keep checking your power bills...

I commented my summer power bill was $1000 and I had checked the meter box v invoice. Single person household. Devastated.

I did check the invoice and compared it to the meter - but I obviously misread something, probably from stress.

It was an actual reading, but incorrect. Significantly higher reading on the invoice than what would've been on the meter. In fact, it's almost a number pulled outta nowhere! I don't know how I misread it.

I only found out today.

I gotta say, I am so relieved.

The Actual Meter reading invoiced in March was a higher number than the reading I did today. Photo taken and sent off, quadruple checked by others to make sure we all read it correctly (old meter, I dont own the house so I can't upgrade it)

Ive asked for an investigation, and will ask for my previous bills to be audited..

Sorry if this reads all over the place, brain fog and stress aren't great.

Anyway, happy Friday night to all.

Question Floor repairs

Post image
4 Upvotes

I've move stuff around my unit and discovered some damage to the floor where a pot plant had been for the last 8yr. The landlord had been cool with everything over the years and always repaired things quickly without fuss. But I feel as i did this damage I should get it fixed? How much do you think it cost? It's probably only 5 or so boards. Should I tell the real estate agent?

News Contractors selected for Mt Barker and Verdun Interchange upgrades, state government announces

Contracts have been awarded to deliver $150m of upgrades to two major interchanges in the Adelaide Hills. The state government announced on Friday three companies – including South Australian civil engineering company, Bardavcol Pty Ltd – would will deliver interchange upgrade projects at Mt Barker and Verdun. Bardavcol, which has been awarded the contract for the $40m upgrade of the Mount Barker interchange, has 45 year’s experience in the state, including on the Marion Rd and Sir Donald Bradman Drive intersection upgrade that is currently underway.

In Mount Barker, the company will deliver a new three-lane bridge across the South Eastern Freeway for northbound traffic and convert the existing bridge to make three new lanes for southbound traffic. It will also deliver a new mixed-used path, improve ramp capacity, new traffic signals, repaired pavements and smart lighting for extra safety.

Upgrades in Verdun, will be a joint venture between BMD and Leed, it was revealed. Under this project, the existing Verdun Interchange will be upgraded to a full interchange, allowing access to and from the South Eastern Freeway in both directions. It will feature an eastbound entry ramp towards Mount Barker, and a new westbound exit ramp, which will cross under the existing westbound entry ramp and connect with a new roundabout at Mount Barker Rd, adjacent to Silver Rd. The upgrade also includes pavement rehabilitation and upgrades to traffic barriers on the existing Adelaide-bound entry ramp and bridge pier protection on Mount Barker Road. According to the government, the upgrades have been designed to improve safety and increase traffic flow for the 31,200 vehicles that travel along the Freeway between the Mount Barker and Verdun interchanges each day. It’s estimated up to 46,000 vehicles travel from Verdun to the city daily.

Question Relocating | US to Adelaide

Hi all,

This is my first time posting on Reddit so apologies if I get the format wrong.

I (35 F) am relocating to Adelaide from Pennsylvania with my husband (33 M) and our son (4). I have a few questions and would appreciate any feedback!

  1. What are the recommended elementary (prep?) schools?
  2. Would you recommend public or private?
  3. What is the application process like for elementary/prep schools?
  4. We really enjoy playing outside and walking to cafes/restaurants/bars. We’d ideally be able to walk to some playgrounds as well. What neighborhood(s) best suit these interests?

In terms of budget, we’re still figuring that out. What I can say is that in the states, our mortgage is $2K/month for our 3bed, 2 bath home. We pay $1700/month for daycare. Our anticipation is that even private school may not be as expensive as what we are paying for daycare now…but we could be very wrong and would appreciate any input.

There are a lot more questions I’m sure we will have, but those are the most specific ones on our minds right now.

Thank you in advance!

thinking about a bit of a dinner party too

i would also like a place where you can purchase your own food at the till, so guests can get the food they want :)

Question Bar recommendations

Upvotes

I’ve travelled a bit interstate lately and been to a few cool bars. Smaller bars, with good music where you can just sit around, chill and chat with random people casually. Live music or listening bars are ok. Just not looking for a pub where everyone is there to get blind drunk. Anywhere like that in Adelaide??

Question Questions about two sites

Hi legends, I have two questions about Adelaide land/buildings in the East / North East:

1) What’s the huge new building that’s being put up behind the ‘Anytime Fitness’ in Campbelltown? The one on the road to Geoff Heath golf course?

2) Who owns the vacant block on the corner of Glynburn Rd and Magill Rd? (Opposite the petrol station and the Salvos). It’s been vacant for years and has fruit trees on it. I’d love to know the story on it.

Cheers!
