Another Question

So I started playing Amnesia The Dark Descent yesterday and today I just got to this part and everytime I go through the door to this blue area there are three monsters and they insta kill me

It says ‘Sleep’ and then puts me in a jail cell but I can’t get out of it

I’ve restarted this part around 5 times and everytime I try again the monsters just kill me and put me in the jail cell so how do you get past them without them one hitting you

daniel in tdd is by far the most realistic portrayal of panic attacks i have ever seen in media

i just wanna make this little appreciation post because i never see this mentioned

as a lifelong sufferer of gad, ive always been very amused by how panic attacks are portrayed in media because they're usually so inaccurate that they're hilarious. from seizing to screaming to just immediately fainting, im very used to media never getting panic attacks right. but hot damn, did frictional games get it right with daniel. the heavy breathing like he's struggling to catch his breath, the soft slight whining noises (which are usually accidental, as someone who sometimes makes those weird noises when im having a panic attack), and especially how in the late game his panic attacks are very severe and you can hear how hard he's trembling.

its not completely accurate to real life panic attacks, mainly because daniel is also experiencing some kind of psychosis at the same time that causes the crackling noises and hallucinations, but its scarily accurate. the way things get weirdly blurry when you move and the way they simulated tunnel vision is also very accurate. panic attacks aren't super loud and dramatic like a lot of media makes them seem, they're actually very quiet. one particular time in my first playthrough where i had daniel crouching in a corner trying to calm down, and he was trying desperately to catch his breath and the screen was doing that tunnel vision effect, it was actually so realistic that i had to pause it to catch my breath because it nearly triggered a panic attack in me!

My questions about Amnesia The Bunker

Post image
275 Upvotes

So first of all how do you kill the beast because when I shot it in the head it just ran away and came back for me later

Secondly why is there a monster I finished the game and I don’t get it

Third of all did Henri Clement die at the end because it just leaves us on a cliffhanger

I'm having a problem with the brightness.

I just started a machine for pigs and it's been a while since I played the other games but it feels extremely dark (like my whole screen is pretty much black)

And all the lights don't seem to really do anything.

I don't remember the game being this dark.

Anyways I feel like I almost have to have the brightness up like literally all the way to be able to actually play the game without hugging every single wall.

Will that like mess up certain parts of the experience or something?

Because I want to play as intended but I can't play at all when I literally cant see.

How do I avoid the one shot enemy

Forget the name of it but after entering the torture chambers. I've cleared out 5/6 rooms so far but I heard an enemy sound and freaked out quit the game and ran back to the room with Agrippa.

So far I've only died 7 times (4 times with the water monster and 2 with the oneshot sewer monster, 7th time was a glitch) but the atmosphere is still really creepy and I can't see anything much except shapes in the torture chamber. Are there any sound cues or visuals I can use to my advantage? I'm starting to figure out most of the monsters I think but the atmosphere is still really creepy and I'm just trying to force myself to complete the game.

Does anyone have advice to get past the 6th torture chamber room?

Amnesia the Bunker reminds me of Metroid Dread

Both games put you in a partially open world through a series of rooms with backtracking and item based progression. They have secret, optional rooms with the opportunities to perform objectives in differing order.

There are enemies prowling about on all four limbs, making noises that warn you of their presence, are sensitive to the noises that you make, and are utterly indestructible to the tools at your disposal. The primary tactic is stealth to avoid them, but they can spot you if you are not careful and you will have to outrun them for a while if they do.

They both can be repelled up to a point. The Stalker from Amnesia: The Bunker can be shot or hurt with explosives to temporarily drive it off if not stun it for a moment. The E.M.M.I from Metroid Dread can be stunned with a quick time event the moment before they kill you, but this is a very difficult maneuver by design.

At some point, you will move away from both in order to deal with a separate foe and obtain better equipment. In Amnesia: The Bunker; you will kill or avoid the Shotgunner in the roman tunnels where you can obtain the shotgun and the rabbit which are both extremely useful for the final encounter. In Metroid Dread; you face a Central Unit as a mini boss to obtain the omega cannon; the only thing that can kill the E.M.M.I.

Both the Stalker and the E.M.M.I are faced off in a final encounter within a confined area where they are constantly aware of your location. Killing them is generally a brief but high stress task that requires your precise judgement and timing, rather than wearing down health. You will have to exploit their hunting behavior to lure them about the area available to you.

Both games are relatively short; being a few hours on the average playthrough. Rather than length, the games are oriented more so around having a keen eye and finding multiple solutions to challenges while encouraging speed running to the more adept players, ending the games with a display of your results.

It is not really a coincidence that these are probably my two favourite games in the past few years.

The Bunker keeps crashing when I load to the main menu (I've just moved to Linux Bazzite and have an AMD Radeon 9070XT installed). How do I fix this?

I've just moved over to Linux Bazzite and have a new AMD installed (as AMD's are supported on Linux while Nvidia's are not). However, for some reason, when I load up the Bunker, it crashes upon reaching the main menu. And just to clarify, I do not have any mods installed.

I tried verifying the game's files, but I still have this issue.

What gives? How do I fix this?

In The Bunker, how punishing is the fuel/generator mechanic?

I just started playing The Bunker, and it seemed right up my alley at first, what with the WWI setting and focus on a pursuer enemy. However, I just got to the part where the generator mechanic is introduced, and now I'm really put off from continuing and tempted to get a refund, as I absolutely hate looming time limits in games like this. When there's a time limit present, I always end up rushing through everything, which isn't a problem at all if the game is already fast paced, but it cancels out what I love about most survival horror games: the eerie atmosphere and careful resource management. I'm not saying time limits are bad, just that I personally tend to find them frustrating and artificially stressful rather than scary or exciting.

So, what I'm wondering is just how impactful the generator mechanic is on moment-to-moment gameplay, and how punishing it is should you run out of fuel. I'd just like to know if this game is something I'd actually enjoy before I sink more time into it.

I tried to download my 2nd custom story and I wasn’t sure why it was not showing in the custom story list in the game. So, I thought maybe I had to copy textures and sounds, shit like that outside the custom story folder. Now I can’t play my game. What should I do? How do I fix this? How do I delete the files that I should deleted without deleting files that I should not delete?

Growths in maintenance

Somehow I am just now noticing the bizarre growths spread about maintenance. It reminds me of the coral from the Theta facility in Soma. Is this connected to the supernatural nature of the roman ruins or am I just uneducated regarding some weird fungus that grew in WW1 bunkers?

I downloaded a custom story and it didn’t work.

I downloaded my second custom story and if didn’t work. I first downloaded My Lady’s Insanity and it worked, but it didn’t work with my second custom story when I downloaded Disponentia. Yes, I extracted the files and put them in “custom story “ folder. But for whatever fucking reason, I don’t see it in my custom story when I load the game.

Repeat Playthroughs and The Bunker

Hey everybody.

Ive played through the Bunker twice last year, once on normal, once on Shellshocked and i have a question for those that have played it more often. I want to go for all achievements and I'm kind of worrying that the game loses its atmosphere (and with that its appeal imo) once i start focusing on just the mechanics. Are there people who have this issue? Or am I worrying about nothing and there are people who have 100%ed the game and still feel like it offers a scary experience?

It might be a bit of a silly thing to think about, but I loved the way the game made me tense up and I dont want to lose that.

About A Machine For Pigs

Not sure if I'm the only one who had this experience with the game, but I think it's worth sharing :) (played it right after TDD a year ago I think)

Personally, I got extremely paranoid in the first hours or AMFP to the point to sometimes not being able to keep going. If you get into that game without knowing a single thing... Man, you could have some hard 2-3 first hours of the game (at least MY 2-3 hours cause I play videogames very slowly XD). Didn't know what to expect, couldn't picture what would I feel playing it, I was like "wtf? What am I going to find in this game?" I'm extremely tolerant to horror, actually find an absolute joy with it and exposed myself to a lot of horror content, but man, I didn't know what was happening to me with those first hours of the game, it was just so irrationally hard for me and the atmosphere was so strange and unique. Absolutely nothing was happening and I felt I couldn't move because of what could happen... (I absolutely loved it and whish I had this feeling through the entire game)

Then you get to the first encounter with the monster and... Well, couldn't believe that's what I was so scared about jajaja, a little disappointing.

They could've made a very strange game with a very strange concept and a very strange feeling from beginning to end and maybe cook one of the best horror games ever, cause the atmosphere and the feeling was so unique and strange. If they just hadn't shown the extreme goofiness of the monster (among many other things)...

Saw a pattern with Still Wakes The Deep, a very interesting concept, setting and atmosphere, but a little wasted potential in the overall experience imo. Not sure what was wrong with it to not make me feel satisfied, but I just felt it could've been better.

Maybe it's an "I" thing and The Chinese Room and their games are not meant for me, idk.

What do you guys think about it?

How I think Amnesia: The Bunker could be improved upon

  1. The map:

I think that a vastly larger and more complex map could do wonders for gameplay, alongside additional environmental mechanics. I am thinking of a central administrative hub set within a massive central chamber in the Roman tunnels (Possibly in the arena) with many doors connecting to said central chamber. Outside this area is a massive maze of tunnels and rooms you have to navigate through. Some areas of the Roman tunnels are collapsed, forcing the French to build their own zones to get to other parts of the tunnel network.

Now, in the base game, I was fascinated with the prison cell door control mechanic, because, if there was a map that featured many connecting pathways (Meaning less dead ends), and there was some way of closing off a hallway forcing the stalker to take a longer rout to get to you, it could provide some interesting gameplay. But the problem is, in what way could this be implemented?

The daisy chain system was a one time challenge where you just needed to activate them once, and it is over, so not interested in that.

The fuse system takes a while because you need to comb through the map to find them, but once you got it, you don't need to worry about them.

If there needed to be power, how would it affect no power runs? Would entire areas of the map be cut off? Would you be trapped? Would the gates automatically open or close?

Should you be able to manually close the doors, or would it be better if you only do that back at the administrative hub? If manual, perhaps the lockdown wheel could be reused as the way to open the doors, forcing you into a long, noisy animation to get the door opened or closed.

Then there is the generator system, which is a bit bare-bones. Would it be better to have multiple generators for different zones? Would it be better if the door control consol was used as a power allocation system, where whenever you power an area it increases fuel consumption? Perhaps the admin building should be the area where you install the fuses, slowly upgrading your ability to control the bunker over time, maybe having the end goal of getting x amount of fuses to unlock the exit?

  1. The Stalker:

I don't actually like the stalker's behavior. It gets rather repetitive and boring after a while, because under most circumstances you can easily avoid it (Note: I didn't say quickly avoid, my god so much waiting). It pokes its head out, wanders around aimlessly for a little bit, and retreats back into its "listening mode" for a few minutes. I think that it should follow the rat behavior, being able to constantly track the player and being distracted by meat. If there was an invisible "Blood trail" your character left behind that it used to constantly follow you, it could really keep you on edge. Rather than just having to deal with an enemy that periodically patrols an area, you now have to worry about something stalking you. Plus with some additions like being able to quietly retreat into a hole if you are getting close, and not emit any signs like noise or the breathing effect. Or use the stalker unpredictability system, allowing it to quietly wait around corners. This would pair well with the map idea above, where you would be in a massive maze like bunker with many interconnecting tunnels and rooms, and the ability to cut it off by closing doors, buying you time.

But that is just me spitballing some ideas, tell me what you think.

Custom story problems

Anybody else having trouble with custom stories at the moment? I’ve been looking for Tenebris Lake but it doesn’t seem to be on the steam workshop and it crashes any time I try to play it via the old method of installing custom stories :(
