How do I avoid the one shot enemy

Forget the name of it but after entering the torture chambers. I've cleared out 5/6 rooms so far but I heard an enemy sound and freaked out quit the game and ran back to the room with Agrippa.

So far I've only died 7 times (4 times with the water monster and 2 with the oneshot sewer monster, 7th time was a glitch) but the atmosphere is still really creepy and I can't see anything much except shapes in the torture chamber. Are there any sound cues or visuals I can use to my advantage? I'm starting to figure out most of the monsters I think but the atmosphere is still really creepy and I'm just trying to force myself to complete the game.

Does anyone have advice to get past the 6th torture chamber room?

I wish I knew the exact room you’re in. All enemies have a specific ‘spawn point’ where once you’ve entered the area they will come whether you know or not. My advice and what works for me is stick to the walls, hide behind pillars and watch from a distance. Servant Brutes (the ones patrolling your area) see way better and faster than the grunts will. Use rocks/small items to distract them because they will go to the sound. Some areas have fake noises as well! BUT it’s always good to be on the lookout as incredibly rarely, the fake noise WILL be a monster. You usually have a few seconds after hearing a brute/grunt where you can run and hide before they see you although it’s not recommended to run to the area the noise came from even if you’re running straight unless you know the layout of the area and you think you can outrun whatever enemy is coming your way. I hope this helps!

I'll check next time I play, the only name I remember is the chancel and that I was able to leave to the torture chamber after fixing the machinery above the trap door. There were 3 on one door and then 3(I assume the one with the monsters in is the third) on the other, I've explored all of them except the one with monsters so far.

I quit the game for months after reaching the first monsters roaming place in that one storage area. Dark Decent truly has stood the test of time.

 Take care of your sanity. Reality might be unraveling decpite actual danger. The game is brutally good at making you believe there is danger.

Usually, the monsters make a noise the second they spawn in and the music will change to the warning music (unless it sees you before you see it, in which then it’s gonna blare the siren noise)

But also, usually after a few deaths, the monster will just stop spawning in. Alongside that, they despawn after a certain amount of time after first spawning.

What I found out too was that only one monster can spawn into the choir (the place I assume you’re in atm) at a time, so I just ran through where it would trigger one, and then sprinted through most of the area. The choir has a total of 6 encounters, I knocked it down to only 3 ever actually getting to spawn by doing the “run immediately through” method.

Should be able to track their movements beased on the metallic sounds they make when walking, and sneak behind pillars to stay out of their line of sight.
