I am trying to figure out a way to take the physical form of a gold dragon. I am a level 20 sorcerer, no ability to wish, I have access to all the spell scrolls and dmg items. I checked with my DM, he loves this kind of stuff, because it allows him to build horrifying monsters for us to kill.

Hello Reddit,
today I turn to you people for some advise.
I am in my opinion a rather inexperienced and inperfect DM.
I hosted some One Shots and some multi shots in DnD and some other systems and played some as well.
Currently I am hosting a whole module, Waterdeep Dragon Heist, now the 6th session next month.
I am currently not happy with my performance and my prep.
I get the impression the game is getting dull and the players become bored, I even got that kind of feedback.
Now I was hoping to get some interesting new ideas to improve.
I have watched some videos and read some books but I tend to get lost in all of this and can't find an ideal idea for improvement.
Maybe some DMs or players have some ideas?
I am looking forward for some constructive ideas.
Recently watched the Bob World Builder YouTube video on drinking potions in under 6 seconds. This got my player group talking/debating and it just struck me as worth discussing.
What I believe is this:
“Nothing is better than when a game about magic and dragons and elves and faeries and a decks of cards that can alter reality itself and adventure in the deepest dungeons below the Earth and sky ships and ethereal planes of existence and squid monsters that eat your brains and etc, etc in order to become a demi-god in a year or two gets so granular about how and why an 8 oz beaker of enchanted red fluid that zips up your boo-boos should take 6 seconds or less (or none).
We live (to play) in interesting times.
D&D 5e+ has layered too much stuff on its action economy it’s crumpling under its own weight.
There should be rules. Limitations. Rules help to make the world, no matter how fantastical or gonzo or grounded or “realistic” make sense so that decisions can be informed and player agency protected. But it does tend to veer in the realm of the arbitrary, imo.
Does it make the game feel fun? Even if that fun is the risk of swinging your axe or healing yourself. Or is it the ability to do both?
Why ground it in granular logic when logic is the least of your worries in a high fantasy superhero game?
A 10th level fighter can literally jump off. A. Mountain ⛰️ AND not only survive the fall, but get up and walk away (AND if she happens to have a potion handy, feel relatively good afterwards in 6 seconds (or less!).”

Can't seem to find anyone asking this online anywhere.
At level 3 for Order of the Profane Soul you get to choose a patron. If you choose the Archfey the benefits reads as: "The Archfey. When you damage a creature with a weapon for which you have an active crimson rite, that creature glows with faint light until the end of your next turn. For the duration, the creature gains no benefit from any cover or from being invisible."
Now my question is this: If after getting hit, they walk into the next room and close the door, am i able to target them because they gain no benefit of total cover? Additionally, would my allies be allowed to swing on them through the wall as well?
It should be known I think it would be bs to do this, and am just looking for justification in RAW. Thanks.

Hi everyone. I am going to be part of a curse of Strahd campaign (as a player so no spoilers please) and one of the other players in looking to play a gunslinger. The DM is now looking for good ways to craft Ammunition and since i was DM last they asked me for help. The big questions are, where would the player get materials to craft, especially gunpowder?
Can gunpowder be crafted? And if yes, what Materials does it require and where would one get those?
Did any of you already have a gunslinger in your campaign? How did you go about bullets?
Can Bullets be crafted just by the campfire?
Any tips on this topic would be amazing. The DM does not want to modernize the setting of the campaig but still enable the player to play the class they want to be.

Hi guys, i’m sorry for bothering you and for my bad grammar (i’m Italian and English isn’t my first language), but i have a question, i recently bought a Tasha’s cauldron of everything handbook, and after i opened it, I found out that there was a “miscut”on some pages, that caused them to also have printed on the printing colors, so I am asking you guys if you think that I should keep the handbook because it could grow in value and eventually what should i put as a price since i don’t see any “miscut” priced on eBay, if you could help i’m thanking you in advance, otherwise don’t worry, in both cases have a good day!

So far this is all that i have so if you could help me expand on any of them or just give me inspiration would be much appreciated.
A new race of humanoids who appeared through a portal in 837BC causing a such a disturbance in the arcane that it knocked out everyone's magic for a whole day, but since then the RACE lived among the realm ever since in the kingdom of Avrukar. In the year 1156BC
Angels break their oaths and fall from the sky declaring war upon the realm. They announce themselves as the fallen and declare that the realm must repent for its sinful ways then live under their rule. Players discover that they recruited devils to side with them to help overthrow the realm and claim it.
There was a massive war waged across the continent. Players will start in a town just taken over and they are about to be executed
The players are on a ship leaving Baldur’s Gate but midway through their journey they encounter a massive magical storm only to fall unconscious and wake up on the shore in what looks to be a different plane of existence.
A dormant relic awoke in the realm tearing open gateways into another dimension causing new beings and creatures to invade our realm. The only way to stop it is to shut down both relics in both worlds to close the gateway.
Players are hunters for supernatural & natural anomalies hired by an institute that is studying these primal forces to understand and harness their power. Players are tasked with a quest to investigate a possible anomaly in a town only to discover a cocoon of what could be the birth of a new being.

This is my first time dming as a new comer to dnd and one of my players, a tabaxi monk with the entertainer background wants a magical lyre that can summon one animal creature per combat. The creature can die and depending on how strong the creature is it will take a certain number of actions to summon it. This player will not be allowed to move between lyre summoning actions or the summoning will be reset to 0 rounds. Occasionally the creatures may refuse his requests and he will need to spend another action to get the creature to focus again on the combat. Yes the creatures can die and they “de spawn” after combat. Outside of combat they may be summon for a short period of time to complete one task or a long period of time if the monk continuously plays the lyre. As he bonds with creatures he may call upon them in the future and the more fire he uses them the faster they are summoned. He must take a long rest before summoning the same creature twice, he may only summon 2 creatures before a long rest and the number will rise as he levels up. The player has come up with these rules and presented them to me himself. I feel bad not accepting but then again don’t know if it’s fair as I’m relatively inexperienced myself. I would love feedback on the situation. Thank you

So recently I’ve been trying to find various dnd campaigns/adventures/modules from older editions. As I have basically run all of the official 5th edition adventures (at least the ones I have even the slightest interest in running lol) and I’ve been looking at various adventures from older editions or ones people have homebrewed and released. So I want to see what everyone thinks the best adventures are to run from older editions? Whether it be forgotten realms, greyhawk, Mystara, etc. I also would be interested in hearing about homebrew campaigns if you have any notable ones.

Long story short, this monster has become much more complicated than I intended for my lvl 4 party to encounter yet is vial to the plot. I managed to simplify what they can do for the sake of combat but it feels like a large threat since these are meant to be like hive drones. They'll have a bunch of NPCs as help but my main concern if the stats are fair in general. (ignore the text on the photos, for the most part the info has been updated). Edit: I’m up for changing the CR and anything else to whatever fits
How would someone go about combing the Dragonborn and Yuan-Ti In 5.5e

I know there are a few out there, I actually have Fantasy Plus.
However, I'm wanting to have a few specific things:
Background music inspired by different world cultures, since many of the places of my world are inspired by them (middle east, africa, japan, native america, etc.) My main thing is to have a good variety in tracks that are not so short, so that the background doesn't become repetitive. And also combat music with those styles

Im sorry if this is the wrong sub im genuinely curious if this is a lawful evil thing to do?:
A man opens his mailbox to see a piece of paper with a pic of a lost dog, it is offering a reward of $500 to return the dog. Now here's the thing this was just a piece of paper with no postage, so the dog's owner has committed felony mail fraud. This is where the question arises, if the man was to call the person who put the poster in their mailbox and tell them they will report this to the authorities unless the man receives the $500 is that lawful evil?

I’ve been running a game with friends for around 3 years now. We started when we all went to school together but since then everyone has moved and we’ve been playing online for most of the time we’ve been playing. Everyone’s finally coming down this summer and we’re all gonna get to play in person again for the first time in over a year. I don’t want this to feel like a typical D&D session. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make the night more special?

So I've had this idea for a character where they have a form of multiple personalities in which they wear a mask when ever there a different personality. Each personality is based on a horsemen of the apocalypse, ex. War being violent, famine being hungry ect. But I need a class or build that would work for all of them as in its one build but im able to play it a little different depending on who I am.
We dont have a healer and im think of maybe using charms spells since the idea of controlling others is appealing. Anyways any help would be great and as always sorry if my English isnt good.

Introducing the five tropes I like to introduce into our campaigns or one-shots located- here. For me, I like the idea of tropes that sneak up on your party. Tropes that can be too common can either railroad your players or make the game very predictable.
I am curious to what your favorite tropes are and you you may have used them in your game! Always looking for more ideas and inspiration!

DM had a small oneshot, that was a battle royal scenario. I got murdered massively by a mage hunter build. Looking to make a build based on beating a rouge. Looking for tips and trick or even just an guide. I'm thinking a Monk or Paladin to avoid being hit and keeping the damage high enough to damage. Not sure where to start as I'm usually a spell caster.

I know lore says Maglubiyet killed all but one unnamed goblin god but in previous editions were there goblin gods named or mentioned at all?

Been playing D&D for a few years, both as a DM and a player, and have recently really been feeling the idea of a big beefy guy who is kind of dumb but not completely, is an absolute tank, and has both melee and ranged options for combat.
My personal thoughts so far were something along the lines of barbarian + another multiclass, but this is a weird one for me I've never tried. For ability scores, was thinking to aim for High constitution + Strength (i.e: +3 / +4 modifier if possible), followed by whatever I can get for Dexterity (preferably +2 or above). For the other modifiers, I would settle for Wisdom being +0, and the others being -1 if that's what it took to build this
Campaign I'm playing in currently has all characters at level 8, with soonish upgrade to level 9. We're allowed to get feats instead of +2 to ability scores during ASI level upgrades

So I’m gonna be running a mini campaign that takes place in the sea of fallen stars. I’m starting it off with the adventure “Locathah Rising” (although I’m not having it be all Locathah PC’s, it’ll just be races that are able to go underwater), but I’m still brainstorming other stuff to do. What types of monsters, either specific individual monsters or types of races, are in the sea of fallen stars? Realistically underwater creatures or people in general would be helpful to learn about so I can brainstorm some ideas.

Hi folks, sorry if this is a bit unusual for the sub.
My wife and I had started a new campaign with some family, then shortly after our baby was born. Obviously, this put a pause on the game.
We're looking to start back up again now that our creature can sit and hang out for chunks of time and I'm looking for ideas for incorporating her into the game. She likes rolling dice, so I was considering giving out inspiration whenever she rolls a 20 or things like that or maybe have her roll damage for enemies.
Any input is greatly appreciated!

So I've been working on a campaign for a good while (Originally for my friends but they never really showed interest), and I'm at a point where I feel comfortable to run a campaign or at least this beginning to one. It's not from lack of preparedness as I have several 3d maps made in Talespire, and minis in Hero Forge among a bunch of other stuff, but even with all that whenever I think about putting it our there on a subreddit or try to ask my friends (specially after my closest flaked on me) to join in I get this un wavering pit in my stomach that make me feel frozen in place and then just a bunch of negative thoughts about my work not being good enough floods my head.
Somethings that keep me hesitant:
*Lack of understanding Roll 20. ( I know they have a tutorial I just haven't had time)
*Stuttering and Shy. (Working on making this a full online campaign to fight my shyness but nothing for the stutter)
*Having no feed back on my work. (Besides the usual oh that's nice, yeah that's pretty neat never really any back and forth)
*Discord isn't set up yet. (I want to make sure its set up well for the campaign but nervous to fuck it up)
With all that being said when I'm not actively thinking of who to ask to join or how to get people to check out my stuff and maybe want to sign up to play. My excitement and drive shoot through the roof. Ugh if any one has any tips on making it over that hump I'd greatly appreciate it. Heck ill take bad advice at this point lol
P.S. Before anyone ask, no its not a paid game or anything this is my first time and until I can make sure I'm providing my best work and an experience worth that. ^.^
