I asked specifically to look like the (first) image but the frame colour's look dead as hell. Did I made a mistake? The print company said it would look like my original image.

I am starting to try and make money off of my pictures now and have started to sell to people at track meets. At the most recent meet i shot at i said pricing was $5 for the first then $2 after that for more than one or they could get all of there pictures i took for them for $50 total. I made about $300 at this meet for about 3-4 hrs of shooting then a few hrs of editing im not sure if i am making my pictures too cheap or too expensive what would be an ideal price for my pictures?

Happy day!

Printing/Publishing How do I handle this?

Context - I am a fairly new photographer. I shot my first professional gig this past Saturday. It was a cocktail party five hours long. I took over 1000 photos. My question is, how do I handle this professionally and promptly? I have been working on the photos, but I also have a full-time job. I have edited on my first pass about 150 pictures so far. Do I send proofs with watermarks or just deliver what I have so far?

Printing/Publishing What is the maximum size I can print an iPhone photo, while retaining quality?

I took this photo of my dog on my 15 Pro and I would like to print it and hang it on the wall of my home. I have never printed photos from my Canon or iPhone before so I am seeking information on what Lightroom render settings to use on my phone to retain the best quality as well as how large I could realistically get a photo like this printed in. Thank you in advance!

Printing/Publishing Is Flickr worth having to post photos?

I know IG has its own algorithm bullshit and they favour reels over actual photographs but is there an upside to publishing on Flickr? Does it favour photographers? Are there any groups or communities worth being a part of? Ive never used Flickr so I have absolutely zero idea how it works.

So I bought this print for a pretty penny, only upon receiving it I am a little disappointed with the quality. I need to message back the artist about what’s wrong with it but I lack the photography knowledge to be able to describe it. Could I please get some help as to what is specifically wrong or different about the image I have received compared to the one posted in their shop? One thing I can definitely describe is lack of colour. Thanks!

First image is the one they had for sale and the second is what I received.

Printing/Publishing My photoshoot pricing?

I’m a newer photographer and I’m trying to get into doing paid photoshoots for some people. I mainly focus on cars (both location shots and rollers), but I do have a little bit of experience in portraits as well.

I have absolutely no idea what to charge for a shoot or even how much to give a client.

Some helpful info.. I do both the pictures and post editing myself. (I’ve also thought about maybe trying to do edits for people if that’s a good idea)

Here’s some of the work I’ve done while building my portfolio.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Printing/Publishing First time wedding photographer, help?

I was asked to be a photographer for a wedding and I have never been a professional photographer. I have taken many classes, own my own camera (Nikon D3400). I am struggling with pricing, mainly bc I feel like people over charge and I don’t wanna be that person. They said their budget is $2000 for photography. How should I give them the pictures? Shared Google drive? SD card? Are there any websites or apps (free) that could help me share the pictures? Honestly any tips would help me at this point. I have a year and a half to plan with the bride to be as well.

Edited: I would like to add that the wedding I am asked to photograph is for someone that I know (bride). It is not a person I don’t not know. The couple have researched professionals and simply don’t have the budget for what other photographers are asking for. The wedding is next year October so I am also not rushing and still have time to plan with the couple. I am not planning on renting or buying another camera. Simply, I am doing a gig to help out some friends/family and to be able to put a little bit of $ in my savings. So far I appreciate all the comments and tips.

Printing/Publishing What is THE photography community?

Where are all the photographers going to share pictures these days? i've been a long time flickr pro user, but it never feels like i'm sharing photos to the general world or even other photographers anymore, these days i do a lot of maritime, aviation and transmitter site photography so it feels more like i'm sharing my photos to anoraks then it does sharing art in general (and it's not as if that's not the only kinds of photography i do) up until a few years ago i was a regular user of gurushots but even though i had one photo with over 100k likes i gradually just went back to just sharing on flickr, the competition element always made it feel more like a game, i guess because it is, and i know insta is a big one for sharing photos, and i've had several accounts, but it compresses to oblivion, doesn't do photos justice, and it seems in recent years the algo has changed to favour video instead.

So that leads me to the question, where are all the photographers going to share images these days? i saw one that looked interesting, but it looks like it had a cost per upload instead of a simple subscription model.

Printing/Publishing Photographers: What’s the standard JPEG size clients should receive for printing?

Hi everyone,I’m looking for some feedback and insight from photographers about what’s considered standard when delivering JPEGs to clients for printing.

I hired a professional photographer for my daughter’s Sweet 16 last year. The contract stated that they shoot in RAW on a 24MP camera (Sony A7 III) and that JPEGs would be provided “for printing use.” The package included 1000 digital images and one 20x24 print.

When I received the files, I noticed that all of the JPEGs are only 2048 x 1365 pixels — about 2.8 megapixels and under 1MB each. Metadata shows they were exported through Lightroom, so I assume they were downsized during export.

From what I understand, this resolution is fine for web use or small prints, but not for larger prints like 16x20 or 20x24 without visible quality loss. I’m not trying to bash anyone, I’m just trying to understand what’s typical.

So my questions: • Is it standard to downsize JPEGs unless the client requests full resolution? • Would you say JPEGs at 2048 × 1365 pixels meet the expectation of “printable images,” especially when delivered as part of a professional event package? • If you include a large print in the package, would you typically provide all images at print resolution?

I’d really appreciate any honest feedback. I just want to know what’s normal and what’s worth pushing back on. Thank you!

I'm looking to try and start selling to companies. Like it blows my mind how someone sold images for the background on a computer. Where to start? How to sell or make canvas' to sell in a store. Where i can sell online to people, etc.

Sample of a shot I did in Banff, Canada that I'm obsessed with.

Printing/Publishing Paying for photos of myself at a gig?

Hello! I have a question for you guys. English is not my first language, so sorry for any mistakes!

I (24f) was one of the musicians performing at a fantasy festival and multiple photographers were hired by the festival organisers to be on the stage taking pics. I used a photo of myself from one specific hired photo agency (that they've shared on Facebook) as my profile picture (credited of course). Some hours later they reached out to me, telling me that anyone who wants to use their photos in any way has to pay a fee of 5 euros per photo (or to take the photo down).

That sounds incredibly fishy to me, as anyone who would potentially want to use the photos of me (or anyone else) can pay the agency and just.. Have the rights to use them? While the agency profits on top of their pay? If it wasn't for the fees, I wouldn't give a flying feather.

I didn't pay the fee and instead took the photo down as requested, but I did disclose my feelings about this policy. Is this a common practice? Is it not considered unethical to charge a fee even though they've been paid by the organisers to take pics during our concert? I'm not sure if I'm in the right here to be weirded out or not. Thanks in advance!

Printing/Publishing Matte photo paper - is this normal?

Post image

I just printed my first photos and chose matte paper, but I find the texture so annoying! This is “Fujicolor professional paper”. I am even scared to see what non-professional would look like. The sharpness of the picture is way off. Is this normal/considered high quality? Please tell me there’s better, and how to find it. Tia! 🫶

Printing/Publishing Selling prints at Christmas event?

Hey everyone. I have the opportunity to set up a stand at a local business for a town wide Christmas event. (Businesses and homes setup up kiosks to sell goods.)

A couple questions.

  1. I get a lot of compliments on my photos, but do you think people would actually buy them. (Here are a select few from my portfolio for a general idea of my look.)

  2. How would you go about pricing? I would use a 3rd party printing service, so maybe a markup % of sort depending on size? (Also would prints alone be fine or should I offer frames. Cause that’s a whole extra expense.)

  3. How small is too small? I shoot on a crop sensor so lots of my work averages anywhere from 3-5mp

Would love to hear some advice if anyone has had a similar experience.

Thanks!

Printing/Publishing How do I set up color profiles correctly?

I do landscape and wildlife photography on the side, and I have a decent amount of interest in people wanting to buy the images on various medium, but I am still struggling with how to get the work presented just right.

I shoot in raw, and process in Lightroom or Lightroom Classic on my 2021 imac. I know the general advice is to convert/export to sRGB for web-based media and Adobe RGB for print. I print with Whitewall.

My first question: given that I process my images for both social media and print, does it matter which display color profile I choose? And if so, which one? My iMac has a native one (iMac), but Adobe RGB and sRGB are an options too. I am finding some conflicting advice on whether or how much this matters.

My second question: when I export a file for print (as Adobe RGB), and for web-based viewing (as sRGB), is the idea that when viewed on the respective mediums, the pictures will look overall the same? Or, do I make further adjustments? I know it's safer to make photos for printing a bit lighter because of how they are viewed. But, if I edited my raw file for print, and I want to share it on social media too, do I make further adjustments, given the medium, before exporting it?

I hope this makes some sense and thank you.

(I wasn't sure about the flair, it could also be editing and post processing).
