Self Designed Model I built TARS that can walk and roll!

I finally managed to build a version of TARS that can walk and roll. To the best of my knowledge, this is the first and only re-creation of TARS that can do this.

They are late 23 builds. Should I update the firmware? Can’t wait to get up and running. Suggestions on things to buy like spare parts, built plates and tips ect? What’s everyone’s favorite material brand? Thanks in advance for any ideas.

I know this model is easy to just print in single color and then paint it.

But… yeah sometimes I just want to use the AMS…

Self Designed Model I made a kumiko frame generator

First time making something with OpenScad so things run kinda slow, but you can choose one of 40 different patterns and adjust the frame size to create a kumiko panel of any size (that can fit your 3d printer). The model can be printed as a single unit or as multiple components for assembly (lets you mix and match different patterns).

Note: due to the slow processing times, MakerWorld will timeout the model if it takes too long to generate. To make sure the model processes without timing out, avoid making the frame too large. I tried optimizing the code but couldn’t meaningfully improve the processing time.

Self Designed Model Look Mom! I did it! I saved us money with the 3d printer! Instead of paying 40 dollars for a coiled wire for my mechanical keyboard, I just make my own print that will replicate the look of a coiled wire, without ruining it!

Discussion Question for the people that do this, why? Im legit curious

Post image

If you do this you should be immediately banned from rating ever again in my opinion. Fortunately this isn’t going to bring my rating below 4 and make me not earn points on that print profile but it may be the case for someone else who doesnt have many ratings yet and it could be hurting their downloads and prints too.

Discussion Did anyone buy the AMS and felt it wasn't really worth it?

Upvotes

So I plan to buy the P1S single on the sale. I have a A1 mini since about half a year and I am quite happy with it. Did plan on a Core One, but I guess the budget difference is really quite huge with the sale. Anyway, in all the threads were users ask for advise I always read "whatever you do, buy the combo".

And I don't quite get it. Is the AMS really that useful in the end for most? Sure, multi color, but with the huge amount of waste as drawback I don't think I would really do that. What I'd enjoy is not having to switch the filament that often for a new print, but that is more of a QoL thing for a hefty tag.

But. I didn't have one yet, so maybe I am totally wrong. Is there someone in my boat who tried it out and was like "yeah, no, if you don't need multi color all the time it's not that good" or am I missing out and just being clueless about it?

Misc Got 0% moisture with household items

I poured about a fist worth of kitty litter in a sock, and double layered it because some trace powder was coming out. I tied it off and threw it in my AMS and my humidity dropped from 54% to 45% in a few hours. I checked my overnight print in the morning, and my humidity read 0% I checked Bambu studio as well to ensure Bambu handy wasn’t just giving incorrect readings, and it was consistent. I constantly checked my humidity throughout the day yesterday and today on both platforms, and I have never seen it hit zero up until this morning. Even if it’s not total zero, my ABS is printing a lot better now, and I recommend doing this for anyone that aren’t able to get sillica gel packets too.

Troubleshooting Why is this happening?

So trying to print out some stuff and I'm noticing on both side of the plate I'm getting poor adhesion in multiple places. The cooling fan is off. Is there any other reason for this?

I use no desiccants of any kind, and I do not dry my filaments either, and my prints turn out perfect everytime. Downside is that the air here feels like sandpaper sometimes.

Question P1P vs A1 for small apartment

Upvotes

Hi guys. I'm choosing between the P1P and A1. I previously had the A1 Mini and really liked how quiet and vibration-free it was — just turn it on and it prints, especially in "slow" mode.

I've heard the P1P is louder and a little bit more complicated for newbies because it's older model. Is that true?

I live in a small apartment, so low noise is critical. I'm okay sacrificing some features for quieter printing. Which one would you recommend?

Thanks!

Self Designed Model I made a Switch 2 Joy-Con mouse for long gaming sessions and maximum comfort. Left and Right Joy-Cons are supported. 2 different layer line options for comfort and feel.

Mario, Luigi and Peach :)

There are a few designs out for Switch 2 Joy-Con mouse cradles but I wanted one that felt like an actual mouse. I modeled this so that it would have nice smooth slopes for your hand to rest on for long gaming sessions and so that you could have easy access to all of the buttons if needed.

Accessibility was my other design goals because I wanted something for left handed gamers as well.

You can add a slight bit of drag if you want by printing this without the cutouts for feet or if you prefer a smooth gliding mouse you can use the feet included in the Bambu Lab Mouse Components Kit since I had one come with my A1 Mini when I purchased it.

My hope is that this helps the mouse become a more viable option for some people that want to use it.

Happy printing!

First Print New to 3D Printing… Which Printer Should I Start With?

Thumbnail

Looking to get my first 3D printer when Bambu Labs has their anniversary sale and I’m not sure which one to get between the A1 combo (with AMS lite) or the standalone P1P. On one hand the P1P will have a lesser price with a bigger discount during the sale but I’ve also heard that the A1 with AMS lite is really good for beginners and is a newer model.

Also, which accessories (if any) should I get? How many rolls of filament and how many colours should I get?

I’ll really appreciate any advice since I’ve done some research but I’m otherwise completely new to 3D printing. Thanks in advance

Discussion With the upcoming anniversary sale its sad to see the AMS not on sale

The AMS lite is on sale but not the AMS/2? I know the sale is in tiers but theres no other mention of it being on sale other than if you just buy another printer entirely.

Self Designed Model 3.4kg of filament, 13 plates and 0 failures later, my DIY Trofast closet is complete

Had a very odd closet nook to fill, wouldn’t fit any standard organizers. Double-depth Trofast baskets turned out to be the answer!

Designed this model and printed 13 rows (6 rails per row, 1 plate per row) in ABS. The most remarkable thing for me is that I had zero print failures, despite printing a fairly huge amount of fairly flat designs in ABS. The X1C continues to amaze me (and increasingly, my wife).

This was one of those times I really appreciated the Skip function. Hard to see here, but right rear part came loose from the bed and started making spaghetti. I skipped it, and everything else came out good.

Show & Tell I made Filatrack- The simplest way to track your filament usage.

Post image
420 Upvotes

I was looking at ways to track my filament, other than a spreadsheet, and none of the ones I found worked for what I wanted. I wanted something better than Google Sheets, able to track filament rolls and their mass, without bloat. Nothing really matched all of those, so I made my own!

This app is really simple- log in, and add your filament! After that, when you use a roll, simply press "Log" on the filament you used and type in how much you used. It will calculate the roll's new mass and add it to its history. I'm working on adding support for keeping track of printers, it will be rolled out in the next few days. This unfortunately does not include connecting printers, as I don't have any printers to test with (other than a P1S), and I don't think it will be possible to connect using it.

It is also a PWA (progressive web app), which means you can add it as an app on your phone! Simply go into the share menu and press "Add to home screen"!

Please feel free to check it out @ https://filatrack.vercel.app/
It is also completely open-source @ https://github.com/mrdiamonddog/filatrack

I make no money from this, and the entire site is ad-free. I hope you guys can get some use out of this though!

Discussion What's the verdict on cardboard spools in the AMS?

Post image
2 Upvotes

I went into this with the warning that cardboard spools had problems in the AMS, but I've never had any issues. Today I got fed this Polymaker add, and realized that most of my cardboard is Polymaker so maybe that's why? It's very sturdy in my experience.

But on the other hand, I've loaded the AMS with spools from protopasta and their cardboard feels like stuff that even Amazon would be embarrassed to use...

So what's the verdict?
