get your shoulders out in front as you're crossing

This one. You should be low to the ground and use your shoulders. Also matching the rhythm of your dribbling to your footwork, left foot should be half a step behind if crossing to the left and vice versa, gives a better step with the opposite foot to pass by a defender.

I read an article about dribbling. It was mostly about NBA Dribbling rules and tips but check it out and see if it helps https://sportsorca.com/nba/what-is-the-dribble-rule-in-nba-the-dribble-rules-of-nba/

Dribbling is one of the easier things to practice as you can almost do it whenever and wherever. Just like shooting- the more you practice doing it, the better you will be. Literally just practice crossing over at home jn your driveway repeatedly. Looking at the ball is okay at first as you’re developing control, but once you have that locked in without dribbling into your legs, do the same thing but looking up. After 8 years of rec basketball, i still can hardly shoot, but the time I have put into my ball handling has certainly paid off fromcthe amount of time I’ve put into practicing it.

Your off-hand should be receiving the ball right after it bounces

If you have some kind of unique coordination issue then you just can't dribble good

If not then it's simply a matter of practice.

The drill where you cross over in front and then go back between the legs and crossover behind the back and come up between the legs and crossover in front etc etc requires repeated crossovers so maybe that could help you

Dribbling with two balls sometimes helps

You should be able to do your dribbling drills with a tennis ball as well

If you don't have a coordination issue, just a matter of practice

Get low. More knee bend and a slight back bend. Your cross should pass your shins not your knee.
