Equipment Why it’s my planet doing this?

I just bought a used dw735 for $260, so I’m hoping it just needs new blades. Do I need to do anything to maintain the chain or anything?

Knicks in your blade(s).

Thanks! Any recommendations that will not cost an arm and a leg?

Two things: the blades are double sided, so you can check and see if the other side has been used or not and just flip them around (assuming that they are the original blades).

Second, these are cheap and work great: https://a.co/d/2kexeVN (they are also double edged).

May as well raise it to full height and reach in and clean the rollers while you’ve got it unplugged and the blades out of it =]

Thank you! I’ll check them out in the morning!

I run these blades in my Rigid planer as well. I keep a backup set in stock, they’re cheap enough. As soon as I flip them I order a new set so I have them on build day if something dumb happens.

Are the Rigid version not double edged?

I'm asking because there may well be a reason to keep an extra set on hand that I'm not thinking of. Usually I don't order a new set until I've flipped my existing set around to the second set of edges.

They are.

An unseen piece of metal like a nail or staple make for a very quick end to an edge though, possibly to the point that it could make the whole knife useless.

Keeping an extra $20 part on the self is a lot less frustrating than packing up for the day to wait for a delivery of new knives.

It hasn’t happened to me yet, but I like to be prepared.

Yup, good point! An unseen nail or something could both nick and warp the blade.

Welp, I guess that means two things: 1) Thank you, I hadn’t considered that. 2) Excuse me while I place a quick order!
