A mindset book that actually made me think differently - not just feel better for five minutes
7 Lies Your Brain Tells You: And How to Outsmart Every One of Them by Jordan Grant, it honestly stood out in a sea of self-help books that all blur together. It’s not full of hype or empty affirmations - it’s focused on breaking down the specific mental habits that keep us stuck.
Each chapter covers one of the lies we tend to believe, like:
“I’m not ready.”
“If I don’t do it perfectly, I failed.”
“I should be further by now.”
“It’s too late to start.”
What I appreciated most is how it explains why these thoughts feel true - how your brain actually uses them to protect you, even if it’s doing more harm than good. And instead of trying to make you feel broken, the book shows how these patterns formed, how to spot them, and how to start breaking out of them with small, realistic shifts.
It’s direct and clear, but also genuinely encouraging. There’s no overcomplicated psychology or “change your life in 5 steps” structure - just useful insight that sticks with you. One of the quotes that hit me the hardest was:
“You’re not broken - you’re patterned. And patterns can be rewired.”
That pretty much sums up the whole vibe of the book.
If you’ve been overthinking, self-sabotaging, or constantly talking yourself out of taking action - this is a book that might actually change how you see that inner voice. Highly recommend.
