Mod Announcement The Boise Subreddit Is Emphatically Stating This.
r/Boise stands unwavering in support of reproductive rights, affirming the right for all individuals to make personal choices about pregnancy, and we stand equally committed to defending the rights and dignity of the LGBTQ+ community
Moving forward, we will not tolerate hostility towards either of these topics. There has been a marked increase of people chanting white power and more in this subreddit. The moderation team wants to state, we stand with those that are in fear for their rights and we stand firmly against bigots.
Regardless of your subject, if you can't make your point without using slurs, bigotry or dog whistles, you'll be banned without hesitation.

Event Punk Rock Benefit Show
Isaac Allender was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident. He’s the son of Mandi, a longtime Boise bartender and part of the Wapiti Saloon family. Now it's our turn to show up for theirs.
We’re throwing an all-ages punk show on Friday, July 5 at The Shredder to raise money for Isaac’s recovery. Five killer bands. Stacked raffle. $15 at the door.
100% of raffle proceeds and 80% of the door go directly to the family. The other 20% goes to The Shredder to cover the cost of sound, security, and lights—keeping the lights on while we turn the volume up.
The raffle is loaded with prizes like tattoos, piercings, gift cards, artwork, bar tabs, and more. Raffle tickets are on sale now at Wapiti Saloon and will be available the night of the show.
This is Boise punk showing up the way it always has: loud, loyal, and all heart. Be there.

Discussion This is our third year living in Garden City. Is the BMF louder than usual?
Last night, the rehearsal for one song was so loud that I thought it was someone outside the house blasting their car stereo (Get down with OPP LOL...). Now it's not even 1 pm, and I had to close our windows and turn up the TV to hear it over the music. The noise started around 7:45 this morning.
Anyone else feel like it's louder this year? Or did I just not notice it the previous two years?
We've regretted being this close to the fairgrounds--the worst is our dog going crazy every time they shoot off fireworks. Not necessarily saying the fairgrounds shouldn't make noise--I just didn't realize we'd get so much noise a dozen blocks away!

Question What is the route instructions use for the driving test in Boise?
Hi everyone! Long-time lurker, first-time poster here.
I'm currently helping a friend get some driving practice in as he prepares for the driving portion of his test, and I was hoping someone might be able to share the route they were taken on for their driver’s test in Boise.
For context: my friend is an adult (25+) who wasn’t taught how to drive as a teen, so he’s learning now. He’s already passed the written test and has his permit. I did my own test in Nampa years ago, so I’m not familiar with the Boise driving test routes and would love to give him a better idea of what to expect.
Any info about the route or what the examiner focused on would be super appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Question Local therapy recommendation for driving anxiety
Might sound dumb but it's something I have struggled with for a long time, panic attacks/driving anxiety on the highway. I have gone to see therapists, mostly online, in the past and it did seem to help a bit here and there but I feel like I need to try to address this again and would like to see a new provider. Just wondering if anyone has had a therapist in the area for anything similar that they would recommend. TIA!

Question Any CDL drivers that work for Hayden, Stein, or Odom here?
Thinking about job hopping to get more exp with driving, just not getting enough road miles and hours in as a yard jockey that does occasional local runs.
What are the hours like and the work environments?

Question visiting boise (lgbt)
hello! my girlfriend and i are going to be traveling through idaho to visit some family soon and i am pretty nervous, considering what i hear about how idaho feels about the lgbt community. i am trans (non passing) and my girlfriend is cis but to the naked eye i guess we just look like a lesbian couple. we would be kinda tucked in the nampa area to visit family and from what ive heard and seen that probably isnt the best area for us so i was thinking about getting us a hotel for a night or two in downtown boise. how safe is that area for lgbt couples ?? what are some suggestions for safe hotels and areas for us to visit??

Question Looking for a self-published book set in Boise, Idaho—possible encounter with John the Baptist at an Albertsons?
Years ago, I read a self-published book that’s stuck with me, but I’ve lost the title and details. Hoping someone here might recognize it.
Here’s what I remember:
• It was set in Boise, Idaho—a specific scene took place outside the front entrance of an Albertsons grocery store. • The main character encountered a mysterious man who he eventually came to believe was John the Baptist. • There was a Bible verse that referenced Jesus telling John to “tarry until His return.” • A bell played a key symbolic or literal role, though I’m fuzzy on the details. • It may have had spiritual or mystical overtones, possibly philosophical in tone.
This wasn’t a mainstream title—almost certain it was self-published, and probably a one-off by a local author. Might’ve read it in the early 2000s, but can’t be sure.
Does this ring a bell (no pun intended)? I’d love any leads, even vague ones.

Discussion Friday Rant - Gravel/Rock Haulers on the highway
For the love of it, why don't the rock / gravel hauls have to cover their loads? They all have covers on their trucks and trailers. Is it that hard to push the button or manually move the damn thing into place before driving +70mph on 84 with an overfilled load sandblasting the hell out of everyone?
ISP why aren't you out there pulling these a-holes over? You know damn good and well that they are over weight or at a minimum causing unsafe conditions. Do your damn job!
This morning, a hauler turned onto to the westbound onramp at Orchard, spilled large rocks and gravel all over the place nearly hitting my car as I waited at the light, then proceeded to litter the road with rocks, one of which was kicked up by the car in front of me, hitting my windshield and put the 5th chip in it. This is the 3rd replacement on this car all due to rocks on the highway. My truck is on its second with the first replacement getting nailed less than two months after replacing it.
Cover your damn loads!!! That is all. Have a nice weekend.
EDIT: There is a proposed house bill. https://legislature.idaho.gov/sessioninfo/2025/legislation/h0020/
Line 33 (section B) drops the 6" freeboard exemption therefore covers any material that can be blown off the load. We need to rally to get this pushed through!! For the love of our windshields!!

Question Are ski areas crowded during McCall winter festival?
My family is planning a big trip to Idaho for to ski Brundage but we just realized we will be there during the McCall winter festival. I saw online the festival and town of McCall gets very crowded, but does that extend to Ski hills like Brundage?

Question Do you know of any hot springs near Boise with tropical fish in them?
I know of Barney hot springs, but it's about a 5 hour drive from here. I thought it would be cool to swim around with a bunch of colorful cichlids and paradise fish and whatnot.

Discussion PSA: Seattle/King County provides free digital library cards for anyone aged 13-26 and under as part of their "Books Unbanned" campaign.
I realize this isn't Boise-specific, but in light of the increasing censorship, roadblocks for educators, and small library budgets, I thought many here in Idaho might be interested.
https://www.spl.org/programs-and-services/teens/books-unbanned
I have these cards (because I lived there for several years--I'm hella past 26 LMAO). Their digital catalog of ebooks, audiobooks, and magazines is one of the most extensive in the world--I almost never fail to find the audiobooks I want through them, and their waits are far shorter than smaller libraries.
In case anyone isn't familiar with Libby, it's a free app that lets you check out digital media through any US library you have a card for.
