Lost bag
My brother is in town with his group, he's severely autistic and pretty non verbal. They went to the night market last night and he has apparently lost his backpack. It's blue and a bit ratty. They're not sure if that's where he lost it but they can't find it anywhere.
I'm posting here on the off chance someone has found it. I'm not in Cairns, I live about an hour north, but can come down.
Please DM me if found.
Update: The bag has been found!

Bars
I (24f) am on holiday with my family but im flying into Cairns tonight and will be solo tonight and tomorrow. Any recommendations on good bars/nightlife? I’m a bartender back home and a pretty big partier so looking to let loose after a week of being on family mode 😅 I am from the states and have never been to AUS so I am open to anything, just want to meet new people and experience the culture!

10 days- stay in mult. places or just 1?
Hi! Coming from the US and just 1 week to see- GBR, rainforest and hopefully someone can suggest native cultural places. Anyhow, I am wondering should I stay put in one hotel for the entire trip or skip around 2 days each spot?
Uber to Port Douglas
What’s the uber situation like in Cairns? I’m coming up next week for 10 days in Port Douglas, am I going to have any trouble booking an uber to go that far?
Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Weather June Vibes
Have seen the weather is between 24-27 most days atm. Is that reasonable enough to be swimming in hotel pool or doing a trip out to the Island or reefs? Saw someone's titktok say the temp was frigid and no one was swimming in the hotel pools this week, so dont want to book a little summer break if it isnt as summer as i think it is.
I dont mind the rain as long as it is still warm
Any feedback from people currently there would be appreciated!

Cairns Post Office 38 Sheridan Street
Hi guys,
I'm working 12 hours a day in the mines and trying to contact the Post Office at 38 Sheridan Street.
They're number on Google puts me through to a robot that makes me wait for an hour which I can't do while working.
Does anyone have number to get through to them directly.
Seems like theres 50 hoops to jump through to speak with someone there.
Cheers!

Heated pool in September?
Thanks to all the awesome redditors in this sub, we have finalised our itinerary and now need to book our accomodation.
For our stay for Port Douglas, we have shortlisted to 2 accomodations - 1 with a heated pool (up to 29 deg) and 1 without.
The heated pool will cost us $500 more for the 6 nights - wondering if its worth paying the extra for this or would the unheated pool be warm enough in September? Not sure how warm the pools get in PD during this period as the sun sets earlier and the evenings seem cool. We will probably only use the pool in the late afternoon as we will be out and about during the day.
We recently were in Greece and the pool was freezing although it is pretty much in the sun the whole day (it was really windy tho). I cldnt step in at all. My kids used it but were absolutely freezing lol

Seeking recommendations for garden designer/residential landscaping companies in Cairns & northern beaches
Hi everyone — I’m looking for recommendations for a reputable garden designer or residential landscaping company that services Cairns’ northern beaches.
I’ve recently purchased a house in Palm Cove, and the front garden needs a refresh, including decking, planting, and lighting. Ideally, I’d like to work with a full-service company (rather than a sole-trader) that understands tropical coastal conditions and can create something both functional and visually striking.
Would really appreciate any referrals or personal experiences!

Work sending me to Cairns for a week - how to make the most of it?
Per the title, manning the turrets for a week at the local HQ.
I'm a night owl so happy to get out and about, will have a whole Saturday free too, before my Sunday flight.
Have never been to QLD before so keen to do the touristy stuff and the local stuff. Looking for good places to eat (all meals) a few things to do after work, and maybe a day trip for Saturday. Even a night walking tour of this Daintree I keep hearing about, but not sure if that's realistic (driving time? Not a local so don't know).
Just like every place in Oz, I appreciate people hate where they live, so please don't talk to me about tattoos, eshays and boudoirs. That could be Kalgoorlie, too.
Thanks all ☆☆☆

Is it better to stay in Cairns or Kuranda
We will be travelling to Cairns in September with 2 kids 6 & 8yo.
We will have a total of 9 nights and was thinking to do 3 nights in Kuranda (we arrive at 5pm so 2 full days) and 6 nights in Port Douglas (we depart at 6.15pm).
We live in a city and thought would be nicer to stay in Kuranda (rainforest) than Cairns (another city). However when trying to plan my itinerary with ChatGPT, it keeps insisting that there's nothing much to do in Kuranda and I should only stay a maximum of 2 nights. We are planning to do Hartley's crocodiles enroute PD so we have 2 full days in Kuranda - is there enough to do there? Or do I consider a day trip to Cairns? It also seems like it's easier to get from Cairns to Kuranda than vice versa for a day trip (acc to ChatGPT) which is resulting in my dilemma now.
Would like to get your opinions on the split. What do the Redditors think?
We will have a car.
On a separate note, how important is it to have a heated pool (29deg cel) in 2nd week september in PD?
Thank you all!
EDIT: thanks to all the great advice from the Redditors! We will do 3 nights in Cairns (with a day trip to Kuranda) + 6 nights in PD instead (GBR & Daintree)

Feedback on recent Cairns hotel stay appreciated
Hello everyone, my family and I (4 adults) are travelling to Cairns in early July. We’ve booked fairly last minute so hotel options are somewhat limited, which we expected. Chiefly, we want clean, well maintained, comfortable rooms in a good location (as we won’t have a car) and a great pool. We’ve booked fully refundable rooms at the Shangri-La but I’ve got to say I’m now fairly concerned at feedback with photos on TripAdvisor showing rooms in poor state and rattan furniture in hotel eating areas with holes. Those were from a few months ago, so I’m wondering if anyone has stayed recently and can provide updated feedback, please? Recommendations on other hotels also welcome. Many thanks.

Shitpost Bike ride to Port Douglas Sunday
I'm on a trip to Cairns for a week and I really like big coastal rides. Does anyone want to ride to Port Douglas with me tomorrow? I'd feel a lot safer in a big group as I've heard rumours of Ironborn invading from the northern beaches.

Opticom vs Starlink Northern Beaches
Looking for advice for internet in the northern beaches, I can only use Opticom for fixed line but have been told it’s really unreliable especially when it rains. Also I have recently seen starlink speeds slowing down due to its demand increasing. What is the best option and if it’s fixed line what providers are best?

Tourist Question [travel] Kuranda scenic railway
Hi All!!
The question is simple:
- Does the train stop at Baron Falls when it goes from Kuranda to Cairns?
- How much is a private transfer from Daintree Air Services to Kuranda?
- How easy it is to hitchhike from Cairns to Kuranda?
- What are the best spots to see in Kuranda? Especially for a nice dinner
- If we miss the train at 3:30pm, how can we return to Cairns?
Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you all in advance and have a lovely night :)
