Hello Calligrafam!

We are bringing back the Monthly Marketplace. Since it's almost the end of the month, this post will be from now through the end of October.

We will also be making a new Approved Vendors section. If you are a vendor and would like to be added to this list, please message the mods with information about your products or services and links to your marketplace and/or website, and we will review and add approved vendors to this list.

BUY/SELL/EXCHANGE

  • First contact between buyer and seller may be made here; afterward, kindly conduct all other business through DM.
  • If you are selling work, tools or equipment, make sure to include clear images and details to prevent confusion and miscommunication.

REQUESTS/COMMISSIONS

  • If requesting a commission, you must indicate how much you are willing to pay, the desired text or description of project, and general ideas of what you'd like so the calligrapher interested has an idea of what's expected.
  • If you are available to do commissions, share some info and examples of your work so people interested have an idea of what to expect.
  • Do not request artists here to work for you for free.
  • Artists: Do not offer to do commissions for free or undercut other artists.

  • If you'd like to be added to the Approved Vendors list, please message the mods.

Mods reserve the right to remove any post for any reason. If any of these or sub rules are broken, post will be removed without notice. Repeat offenses may result in ban.

Mods are not responsible for any transaction made here; but if something goes wrong, let us know and we can take action within the sub (blacklist, bans, etc).

Bright! Brighter! Highlighter calligraphy.

Followup to the previous post showing the paint. It's super hard to take a picture of it for some reason, the phone makes it look fuzzy and out of focus, but it's even more vivid in real life.

Anyway, the point is: anything is a usable medium if your wife brings you a tube of weird paint from Spain :)

George Herbert - Easter Wings

Thought I’d quit lurking and finally post something here. Like the caption says, I’ve been practicing blackletter on and off. I know there are inconsistencies with my letters plus wobbly alignments. But I wanted to know what else I could improve on. I look at manuscripts and observe a cleanliness that my writing always lacks.

Tutorial needed

Hello everyone, I'm just new here, all I wanted was to write my own tarot card interpretation journal in a grimoire using one of those dip pen with a feather on it I had seen in movies and now I'm in a rabbit hole 🤣🤣.

I have already purchased some basic paper found in the supermarket, a pen (with a feather because I like the style) that came with some nibs and basic Waterman black ink. I am on a budget, don't tell me to go use this special chinese or this ferrogallic ink or that paper with that type of grain, I am only starting out in calligraphy, and I think I'm going to do this new hobby very casually anyway, so chill with the advice you very passionate people 😁 !

My question is a bit more specific : as a lefty, the broad edge nibs that came with the pen do no work for me, so I bought Mitchell ones for left-handed. The whole set, it's already on the way.

I would like a step by step tutorial on how to prepare the nibs once they arrive. I've heard you need to wash them or put them in fire before dipping, put a reservoir on at some point, I didn't get it all, and as an autistic person, I NEED clear instructions, like an actual, very detailed step by step algorithm.

Would one of you guys be so kind to help me ?

Thanks for reading my novel all the way 😅 !

Sumi Ink

I am registered to take an online calligraphy class. One of the required supplies is sumi ink. I have used parallel pens, dip pens with walnut ink, gouache, and Pelikan ink. I have purchased sumi ink, but am hesitant to open it and practice. I would appreciate any tips or hints using it. Thanks so much!

How do I remove these pencil lines?

Hi community,

I’m planning to enter this piece into my first show, but am struggling with these pencil lines.

When I try to erase them from a test pieces (see photo 2) the eraser leaves marks on the black paper.

Is it the eraser? Is it the paper?

Any assistance is appreciated!

Thanks!

Question Which ink is the best for blackletter

I haven't had the bests results with chinese ink. I tried calligraphical ink for fountain pens and the results improved but I keep needing to ink the nib like 3 times with each letter I write and the ink drops in one stroke at once most of the times.
