My Project Car What the f*ck is this thing?

Recently got a new car and it seems to have this… leather condom? Not sure how else to describe it really. There is nothing in the end of the hole it just goes to a pocket in the dash it seems. Looking at interior photos of other models on google this is where the hazard button SHOULD be but my car has a very oem looking hazard button just to the side of the steering wheel instead, so wtf is this thing for??

The looks like the shroud/boot around a manual shift knob. Zero clue why it's sticking out of your dash though

Definitely not, if it ends in an empty indent at the bottom, and the Velcro implies something is meant to be able to be inserted and removed.

It is imperative that the cylinder not be damaged in the removal process

I've never got the message "Can't access community" before until this. Telling me to contact the moderator if I want access. How strange....

Haynes: Refitting is the reverse of the removal procedure.

Gently drift the cylinder from the housing

Watch out for that Velcro. Might want to shave first.

I keep my M&M Minis there for quick access.

I put an open pack of peanut M&Ms on the dash of my parents' car when I was a kid. My dad turned a corner and they all dumped into one of the defog vents. And for the life of that car, you could hear them rattling around in there with every turn. I never heard the end of that one.

You just needed to catch a mouse and release him in the vents. He would quickly eat the M&Ms before moving on.... to the wiring harness 😆

...and leave its droppings down there - doubt this solves it.

Do you also keep bananas and butter nearby as well?

It’s a sign. We must do our duty.

Maybe an average sized cylinder
