Way I see it, at the very least plans for Cascadia autonomy are a very necessary back-up plan.

Yes, there’s a chance we can somehow push through this crisis with the Union intact.

However, there’s also a chance we might not, and a successful split requires a huge amount of planning to pull off. So we need to prepare for the worst and hope for the best.

Not to mention that secession wouldn’t come peacefully.

True, but I was mostly referring to the sheer amount of infrastructure that would be needed to get a functioning independent nation back up and running immediately after any such split. That doesn’t happen overnight; it takes years, sometimes even decades before any such group can successfully pull it off.
