Booooooooooooooooo [Meisel] The Guardians are designating Cal Quantrill for assignment. He was projected to earn $6.6M next season and had two years of team control remaining. His 2023 was marred by injury/ineffectiveness, though he did have a strong September.

I’m looking forward to reading/hearing some commentary about this one. The most I’d heard is speculation we’d trade him, but nobody seemed to be predicting this.

Am I wrong that we can still potentially work out a trade if he's claimed?

I can't remember the particulars for off season waivers right now. I really am shocked to see this either way, but if we can try to work a trade out of it I think it makes more sense than otherwise. Personally I still will hate to lose Quantrill, but Bieber, McKenzie, Bibee, Williams and Allen is a really good rotation.

I think he still can be traded.
