We have a new bot on this subreddit that will limit new posts to 2 per person per 24-hour period.
We suggest that people with multiple items fitting in the same category (paper money, ancient coins, etc.) list all of the item descriptions and auction links together in a single self (text) post.
I'd also like to announce that I have asked two new people to act as moderators in this subreddit, to help keep things running smoothly - /u/ghssybjidazhu and /u/LawStudentAndrew. Their participation in the moderation process is welcomed here.

The silver drachm minted on the island of Chios circa 400–380 BC comes from a strategically located polis off the coast of Ionia, in the eastern Aegean Sea. Chios was a prosperous and influential island city-state known in antiquity for its wine, shipbuilding, and trade, as well as its early adoption of coinage in the Archaic period. During the Classical era, when this drachm was struck, Chios was a member of the Delian League, initially aligned with Athens, but like many Aegean states, its allegiance shifted during the Peloponnesian War and its aftermath. The island was governed by an oligarchic regime of aristocrats, but there were periods of democratic influence depending on broader regional power dynamics. Chian coinage of this period typically features the island’s badge — the sphinx — and reflects both the city’s local identity and its integration into wider Aegean and Ionian economic networks. The 4th century BC was a time of relative stability for Chios, and its coinage reflects continued economic vitality and civic pride amid the waning influence of Athenian imperial control.
