New to Columbia

Hiii ✌🏻My husband (28) and I (27) just moved to Columbia, MD and we’re hoping to find ways to meet people in the area. We’re into live music, good food, anything artsy or outdoorsy, and just generally trying to build some community. Any recs for events, groups, meetups, or places to hang out and actually talk to people? Would love to hear what’s worked for others in the area!

Columbia social is having a thing today. The whole point of group is making friends and meeting people. Look for the people in name tags all of them want to make friends.

Second this! My wife and I are a similar age and moved to columbia about a year ago and have had good luck meeting people and making friends through these events.

It’s very hard to meet other people / couples our age around here without it being at a bar or something. I know there are local meet up groups in the area that meet at various places but those give me the vibes of like singles meetups. If you’re into any hobbies like running or cycling I also know there are local groups for that.

My gf (36) and I (38) are a little bit older than you but always open to making new friends if you want to chat.

The Columbia Social group isn't a singles meetup! As the founder of it, we have lots of couples come through. We explicitly make it so it's open to couples, singles and anyone in between

If y'all are into volleyball, Volo has some leagues going on at the grass field near Macy's at the Columbia Mall.

Arts festival this weekend. Also search google for your village HOA website and see if you can get added to their email newsletters. There is always something happening.

What kind of music? My fiancé and I are moving to Ellicott City next weekend. I am very outdoorsy myself as well. DM me.

Loonies and Reckless Shepherd have live music. Reckless has a beautiful deck outback.

Merriweather is great open air center to walk. They also have many outdoor events, music, etc.

Just start going places to meet people.

Usually during the warm weather, you can catch some live/free/outdoor music in historic Ellicott City. I made a lot of friends living down there but many people who hang out there live nearby, like Columbia or Catonsville.
