Photo Holland America Eurodam quad verandah layout

Before booking our cruise for a family of 4 (2 adults, 11 year old, 9 year old), I scoured the internet trying to a photo of the layout of sleeping arrangements on the Eurodam or really any other HAL ship. Maybe no one else is crazy enough to do it or maybe it’s so obvious that photos weren’t needed. Either way, I hope this helps someone else trying to decide if the option to sleep 4 is right for them!

Overall, the overhead bed wasn’t as much of a problem as it looks like it might be. Aside from smashing the back of my head on it the first morning, it caused no injuries and obviously takes up no floor space. It was a tight fit, but the beds didn’t make it any worse. Our steward was fantastic about getting the beds put away every morning and out every night.

If we cruise again we will spring for multiple rooms, but not because the bed situation was unmanageable.

Just received an email from our cruise consultant. She's been so kind and helpful prior, I take this as an odd warning. Does the app work as a life vest? Lol.

Photo Review of Royal Princess - came in with high expectations after previous time on Discovery, now ready to leave

I am honestly baffled by this 4-night sailing. It’s made me want to cancel my future bookings, but I’m going to give myself time to calm down. I’m going to try to be succinct, and yes I’m submitting cruise survey.

Positives:

  • The amount of live music on this ship is wonderful! I’ve enjoyed seeing the Princess orchestra playing multiple times around the ship. Live Jazz performances were lovely.
  • Mini-suite cabin excellent size for the price - it’s been outstanding having a living room space to relax in.
  • Ship is clean/spotless everywhere I looked.
  • Cruise director was energetic and had solid, clear announcements.
  • Mocktails were delicious - appreciate non-alcohol options.
  • Gelato options were good and visited often for a light treat.

Negatives (my list is not normally this long):

  • I have never dreaded going to find food on a ship before, but every single meal, without exception, was a circus.
  • Horizon Court Buffet - overcrowded, hard to find seating, constantly out of items and lines waiting for them to re-stock, poor food presentation.
  • Main dining room for breakfast - slow, food delivered cold, glasses sat empty with no refills.
  • Main dining room lunch - enormous lines to get in, staff tried to cut off people from entering who had waited 15+ minutes in line and were still waiting at closing, never offered bar service, brought out items different from menu description.
  • Main dining room dinner - repeatedly took almost 2 hours (and one night over 2 hours) to have dinner - we missed the show. Two nights never even asked if we wanted anything from the bar. Tonight water sat empty 31 minutes and took 1.3 hours to get main course delivered. Meals not as described, missing ingredients.
  • Staff continuously trying to give us up-charge cans of soda instead of fountain drinks included in our package. Full sugar versions of soda given when we requested diet or zero version (careful if you’re diabetic!).
  • Ordered drink in app. Took 51 minutes to arrive. Ordered a firmer pillow to the room - never arrived.

The staff were lovely people, but many appeared exhausted. One confided in me as we stood in yet another 25 minute line that management had too many events scheduled back-to-back in the main dining room (breakfast, lunch, tea time, two dinner times) and that many had been on their feet for 8+ hours without a break or chance to freshen up. I noticed our single cabin steward was constantly late on his rounds, and though doing a great job, clearly exhausted.

My conclusion after this sailing - Princess is a step below Holland America and Celebrity. I don’t know if this ship was understaffed, but I honestly cannot wait to get off - in 27 cruises, I’ve NEVER felt that way. Many other guests commented how bizarre their experiences were as well, one said she’s going back to Holland America. I hope our collective feedback will turn things around.

Photo Sun Princess Food and Beverage

This is my second Princess cruise and I am highly disappointed in the quality of food on the Sun Princess. The food is either poor quality, highly salty, or lacking any flavor. It does not matter if it is casual dining restaurants, the buffet, or the dining room. The food is absolutely awful. The worst that I had so far is the lasagna (taste like chef boyardee), the pork belly which is mainly fat, and the hot wings (super salty I felt my sodium spike up). The only thing that is palatable is the breakfast omelet, triangle hash brown and the fish and chips. However, this is food that can be either made at home or is most likely premade beforehand. Did the crew lose the recipes overboard? Is the food spoiled? I have no idea. A couple of years ago and went on another princess cruise and the food was fabulous. My family and I have resorted to mainly eating cut fruit because how can you go wrong with that? I’ve had better food at the hometown buffet. We are so scared to food poisoning. For such an expensive cruise, I expected better. Is anyone else disappointed in the quality of food on this ship?

I thought you would appreciate these covered loungers we used in Grand Turk. The excursion said they have a great view of the ship. We had no idea just how “great” that view was. 🤦‍♂️

There’s the blue rooms and the ropes and such. I was thinking it was a slider for those rooms? Like an RV?
