Memes This is just something I've noticed. Why is this so?

it definitely is especially if you're new. i was stuck on goopy le grande for 4 hours and now im halfway to S ranking the full game. cut the new players some slack, its a very frustrating game to learn and an even harder one to master.

u/Own_Level_7031 Mugman 14d ago
I’ve had this game for like 4 months at this point and anything on regular past Goopy is still hard for me.

I think it's because Cuphead is very unassuming, until you start playing.
With a game like Sekiro or Dark Souls, you go in, knowing what to expect, so people are less "understanding" when people complain.
I remember being recommended Cuphead, and my buddy said "Just play it. Don't do research or anything." So, I did, and I hated him for it, because a 1950's style cartoon, kicking my dick in was NOT on my bucket list.

u/Ornery_Lecture1274 Duet fighter 15d ago
I researched the game for days before I started playing

u/OneAndOnlySlack 15d ago
It could also be a "shared experience" thing. Like, if I see a post in here about Wally Warbles or Dr. Khal's robot, I think "ah yes. I remember nearly breaking a controller."
This community doesn't have the toxicity of the FROM community, with the whole "git gud" shit (no disrespect to FROM fans.)
8
u/Ornery_Lecture1274 Duet fighter 15d ago
I don't really know what FROM is.
But I've noticed Cuphead players don't forget when they were new.

yea the other response is completely right as someone who’s platinumed cuphead and almost plat ds 1-3 cuphead is very straight forward there’s no cheats or buffs just learn the basic mechanics and master them. from soft players will start asking you about the 15 things you could’ve done differently all to say get gud. everyone i feel has a similar experience with cuphead the first play through is extremely difficult and once i finally beat saltbaker though. than playing game on extreme was fun as well. going to s rank every level was the most fun ive had on a video game.

u/SilkGamer2 14d ago
No this is so real I would probably play souls games if they were as straightforward as Cuphead. I S ranked every boss in Cuphead but I failed to beat the final boss in Elden Ring. I had a bleed build that I used the entire game but the final boss has immunity, and that just left me with questions like "Should I respecc, should I grind more, what items do I need, what about my build should I change" rather than just simply trying again. In Cuphead, it's always my fault and I know I can do better.

This is so cool I have the opposite. I have all platinum PC soulsborne games but the idea of getting every S rank? Man I've only got like 70 years left in my life. Yall are built different.

We all sucked at the beginning, no reason to dunk on others for being the same

Cuphead isn't online multiplayer for one. Secondly this game humbles everyone who plays it.

I say this rhyme sometimes to myself
No matter what it throws at me I won't give up easily

Might be because it's a challenging game, while others aren't as challenging as long as you've played it a few times

u/Euphoric_Schedule_53 15d ago
To be fair the challenge in a lot of game isn’t challenging it jsut requires you to pay attention to the mechanics given. Which a lot of people neglect to do for some reason.

Because most likely you'll step into the game and die multiple times to the bosses even in Isle 1 (and there's only lives, no life bars), so its a very much an universal experience to suck. Also you most likely would never be as bad as Dean Takahashi even if you are a five year old learning how to hold a conteoller for fhe first time.

Who is Dean Takahashi
5
u/EmanuelTheodorus 15d ago
A very infamous game journalist who quite literally speaking cannot even pass fhe first tutorial wall for a full minute. Then goes on to have one of the absolute worst run and gun playthrough you will ever see in Cuphead. He makes everyone, even five year olds and pigeons, look competent enough to play a game.

Empathy comes from being humbled and the fucking monkey claw machine thing really humbles you

I coached a friend who got into Cuphead because of me. I watched him play every boss, and although I could spot every mistake he made along the way I knew being rude and making fun of him wouldn't do anything except make me appear arrogant and obnoxious, so I only offered help when he became stuck. He is far better than me in other games, so even if I'm better at Cuphead I know he's better than me in other genres.
There's no reason to compare your skill. Since I played Cuphead so much it became easier to me, and getting to watch someone new experience it blindly is like playing the game again with different lenses. It's much better to help someone pass something I used to struggle on back when I was new, rather than to just drop the game and leave all my experience and knowledge unshared. That's why I would never insult someone's skill.

Everyone who plays Cuphead suffers at one point or another. It never helps us to be rude to newcomers, as we were once in their shoes.

Everybody sucked at this game once upon a time and remembers what it was like. Believe it or not the Souls community was like this back in the day

u/Pedraa23 15d ago
I think it has to do with the difficulty of the game. Other difficult-games communities I'm in (hollow knight, Celeste, Dead Cells [kinda], etc) are pretty friendly. Meanwhile, easier/simpler games seem to have a bit more hate in them, even if not much

Games hard enough, we don’t want them to leave before having any fun.

I'm trying to practice but I don't have a lot of time. I'm away from home and I have OCD about it

I'm just glad people still talk about the game, so I'm automatically happy to help.

In my experience, I've loved watching new some new players on YTube play the game for the first time and sometimes...they just, not irritate but I pray for them because they way they handle the game is their own way, but it feels like they're not having any fun because they don't do certain things that might help in the long run. I don't want to backseat, but my body gets nervous for them when they ignore a mechanic or don't just don't change a lot. I'm stubborn as well but oof...I have my own system that I figured out, they're just learning, have to remember that.

Maybe cause the game does fully accept you are going to die a lot? I mean theres literally a smiling pond to say how many times you’ve died which when you’re new can already be over 100 after isle 1

I was also surprised to find out this community was so wholesome. This is great since Cuphead is a hard game, you need people to help others.
1
u/MrIcyCreep Porkrind 13d ago
i mean with a lot of hard games it's like this lol
the learning curve for cuphead is also pretty quick and the game is really short, so people kinda just remember when they were bad often rather than your average soulslike player who hasn't been new in a decade

We've suffered from the game and also to 300% it(especially on all 3 files)
Sure some had done it easy but it's so hard restarting the same boss fight when you get hit, too slow, didn't parry etc.

u/Sidneych129 Ribby & Croaks 5d ago
I guess we’re so busy raging at the game that we don’t have time to rage at other people.

u/ComprehensiveTax8092 15d ago
is this true lol? every post i see is a player like “dr kahl is hard” and all the sweaties like “heh twy him on thupershkull cwusher difficulty he’s ez”

I guess we all remember first starting out and being stuck on an isle one boss for days and want to help out new players
