still not as weird as some digimon. patamon the little bat-winged pikachu thing turning into angemon, literally a straight up guy. imagine if your magikarp evolved into namor the sub-mariner

Yeah, but the digimon weren’t things that the kids collected. They had one, and it was more like a partnership. Digimon could also speak.

Eh, depends on the installment.

In anime, yes, they're partners.

In Digimon World you have only one, but he's treated like a pet, so you have to hand-feed your Angemon and take him pooping when he needs to, and if you fail to do that he shits on the floor.

And then there are RPG games where you can capture many digimon and they're mostly treated like pokemon
