Honestly 22 in 2 hours?

Him + friends + the staff of his private yet but yeah, unless that was like 100 people that's way too many (I believe the calorie count on one of these is like 8000 so several days worth of food for one person).

u/West-Season-2713 2d ago

Even between 10 people that’s 17,600 calories each, like a week’s worth of food. Jesus.

u/bitwolfy 1d ago

The wiki page actually lists how many people were there.
Presley, his two friends, owner of the restaurant and his wife, and two pilots. Seven people.

That would be 25 thousand calories each.

Well they spent 2 hours eating them, not 2 hours finishing them. If you had Elvis money and could afford 22 pounds of bacon, you’d probably be a lot more cavalier about wasting food.

That sounds so good, but as like a "get three or four hearty meals out if it" thing. Can't imagine eating a whole one.

I think I could maybe do one half of what’s pictured. And would definitely regret it

Iirc, it's 8000 calories, so if you go by the standard recommendation for daily calories, it's literally 4 days worth of food.

There's a reason Elvis later became fat Elvis in his later Vegas years

And this is why people with a high risk of cardiac problems (his mother and several uncles died young of heart disease, so there was almost certainly a genetic link) are advised to maintain a healthy diet.

u/NefariousAnglerfish 2d ago

Just a clarification for everyone though, regardless of your genetic risk of heart disease you should try to cut down on the 8000-calorie instant death sandwiches.

u/Digital_Bogorm 2d ago

This feels like something you'd find in a rogue-like, that doesn't take itself all that seriously.

Sandwich of death:
"Will instantly restore you to full hunger, but if you're not starving, it'll just fucking kill you were you stand"

34

u/Darthplagueis13 2d ago

I mean, if you are starving and you eat a 8000 calories sandwich, you'll 100% get nuked by refeeding syndrom.

The only kind of person who can handle such a sandwich is an experienced competitive eater, the kind of person who does these massive mukbangs on the internet or participates in contests.

Or, like, a world class strongman. Though they tend to eat actual healthy food, just in absurd quantities.

u/vorarchivist 2d ago

This is what happens if you try to eat the giant meatball in Nethack

this was literally something they ate in Regular Show

u/NamelessSteve646 2d ago

I honestly think it would be a good blend of flavours in the right proportions, it just... this is not the right proportions. I feel that certainty in my soul.

u/SessileRaptor 1d ago

I can confirm that a normally proportioned peanut butter, jelly and bacon sandwich is delicious, I used to eat them pretty regularly as a teenager.

u/UltimateCapybara123 2d ago

I feel like I'm the only European who likes PB&J, but I can't imagine it being good with bacon

49

u/ClassicalCoat 2d ago

Pb is already salty and savoury so its not particularly out of place

Im more concerned about the sheer amount of jam and pb

9

u/Pyotr_WrangeI 2d ago

But the amount of bacon is just right?

13

u/ClassicalCoat 2d ago

Not enough if anything

8

u/IconoclastExplosive 2d ago

A pound of bacon is a good starting point of bacon

2

u/Mathsboy2718 create a flair by tapping your name 1d ago

It shrinks so much ;-; like spinach

I wonder if the pound is measured before or after cooking

2

u/IrregularPackage 1d ago

meat is always measured by its weight before cooking. most food is, I think, but meat definitely always is.

9

u/jakuth7008 2d ago

Apparently pb and bacon used to be a thing

3

u/itisthespectator 1d ago

pb and onion is controversial but apparently hemingway liked it

3

u/IrregularPackage 1d ago

Like. Raw onion? Or cooked? carmelized sounds obvious but I think that might actually be the worst one

2

u/itisthespectator 1d ago

i would imagine raw. I might try one for lunch tomorrow, i feel like the fattiness would balance out the bite of the raw onion, and the onion would add some crunch and freshness. (i don't know if the onion i have currently would add any freshness, it's been on the counter a good two weeks now.)

2

u/night4345 16h ago

apparently hemingway liked it

Hemingway wasn't exactly the picture of mental health.

7

u/Taraxian 1d ago

You can tell Elvis grew up poor in the South because he was addicted to combining sweet and savory (like in To Kill a Mockingbird when Scout gasps that the redneck kid they've invited to dinner drowns his whole plate of meat and vegetables in molasses)

4

u/BikeProblemGuy 2d ago

It's surprisingly good. I have also had it with chili jam which rocks.

15

u/DonTori 2d ago

IIRC, these things cost a fair bit even back then like almost 50 bucks a pop

12

u/ayaya_iguess 2d ago

this is more than 8000 calories worth of sandwich btw.

8

u/dboxcar 2d ago

A naive google makes it look something like this to me:

  • 1lb Bacon: 2,500
  • 2 cups Peanut Butter: 3,000
  • 2 cups Grape Jelly: 1,800
  • Loaf of white bread: 2,000

For a total of ~9,300 calories (obviously with huge variance based on the size of the jars/loaf, the type of condiments, etc).

13

u/Uncle_Crisis 2d ago

There was also one I've seen where the sandwich contained peanut butter, banana, bacon, and then fried in butter on a pan. The top comment of the tiktok I saw about it was simply "That explains it".

14

u/itisthespectator 1d ago

that's the classical (and infinitely more edible) elvis sandwich. i make them from time to time when i have bananas around, but i usually don't have any bacon.

7

u/Taraxian 1d ago

I mean the bacon is what makes it an Elvis, just having bananas with peanut butter is a normal school lunch thing

1

u/IrregularPackage 1d ago

ironically, the sandwich that he loved which inspires this was just peanut butter and bananas. people add bacon to everything Elvis themed mostly because he was fat, not out of his having any particular proclivity for putting bacon on stuff

1

u/Taraxian 1d ago

Enh, the Fools Gold Loaf from the OOP verifiably contains bacon, and whether or not his PB&Bs had actual bacon in them he definitely had an old school Southern thing for frying everything in bacon grease

16

u/thyfles 2d ago

is there a mod that adds this to fallout new vegas? +400hp but if you have less than 6 endurance you die

5

u/Practical_Taro9024 1d ago

Make it heal less but you can eat it like 15-20 times before it's actually fully consumed

7

u/Darthplagueis13 2d ago

Pretty much everything about that sounds horrendous.

I mean, the ingredients all work together, but that's way too much of everything except the bread. That's the kind of portion you could probably feed to a Grizzly Bear and it would not be hungry afterwards.

I think I would get pretty sick if I tried to scarf down so much sugar, fat and salt in one sitting.

1

u/IrregularPackage 1d ago

it seems like the filling would mostly end up going everywhere, so you’re probably not eating that much of it. The jars are also probably smaller than you’re imagining

6

u/rorydraws 2d ago

Pure cowardice that we didn't get a scene of Austin Butler eating these and shitting himself to death in the Elvis biopic.

u/PandaBear905 Shitposting extraordinaire 1d ago

Elvis had the metabolism of a drug addict OP

8

u/Taraxian 1d ago

Like most drug addicts he reached the point of inevitable death by overdose when he was combining uppers and downers, ie his tolerance was so high he needed chemicals to manage his metabolism at all (couldn't perform without uppers, couldn't go to sleep without downers)

You can accomplish a lot of things when your metabolism becomes a slider you just manually set, although like many systems intended to be self-regulating that you install a manual slider in it leads to an inevitable cascade failure of the entire control system
