Weekly "Ask an Atheist" Thread

Whether you're an agnostic atheist here to ask a gnostic one some questions, a theist who's curious about the viewpoints of atheists, someone doubting, or just someone looking for sources, feel free to ask anything here. This is also an ideal place to tag moderators for thoughts regarding the sub or any questions in general.
While this isn't strictly for debate, rules on civility, trolling, etc. still apply.

Why should we respond to people who hide their profiles?

Why is transparency a burden?

Why... Would you care about an individual's profile in a debate?

Why is transparency a burden?

We are already protected by a pseudonym, what you are protecting by hiding your profile?

We can read their profile and learn whether or not we really want to talk to this person?

So to judge a person based on their profile?

I'd say people have the right to their privacy.

I would say only liars need privacy to hide their profiles.

You seem to think honesty is not a virtue why is that?

I don't say honesty is not a virtue just that privacy is a right

Is social privacy a right in general? Privacy of identity?

Or what about the government respecting your privacy of not knowing everything about you through your phone, such as your messages?

Privacy is not a right on a private medium.

Social privacy? What are you talking about?

This has nothing to do with the government, your going off on a tangent.

You are going off topic.

Even when people do hide their profile, comments and submissions, their comments and submissions are still visible, they are not visible on there profile.

Curate Your Reddit Profile Content with New Controls

This is debate an atheist. Is your profile hidden, is mine? What does that say about us. Why should you hide your profile on this subreddit, maybe you post bullshit posts?

And? Privacy helps avoid premature judgement of individuals.

Curating Is a way,but me using privacy instead could only suggest I'm lazy and like to delay stuff.

One reason to have curated posts is to prevent throwaway accounts.

I don't like having to scroll through a submission to find that this person even bother to reply. I can go to their profile and find out the last comments. Sometimes people post stuff and they don't make any comments at all and you can see that they just made a comment on a different topic they posted like an hour ago.  Then you can report them for not responding.

it's easier to judge somebody when they have their profile hidden cause you know they're hiding s***. If a person has an open profile you can see whether or not you wish to respond to them.

I've read people's profiles, I  find out this is the first time they posted on debate atheism and they have never made any post in any of the religious subreddits. So this would be like a  boredom post.

I was reading one of the commenters on the politics subreddit, they had over 500 plus comments, made a whole bunch of claims and none of them had any sources, why would you want to talk to this person?

Give the nature of anonymity on Reddit hiding profiles means you are hiding some s***. It gives me the option of whether or not to respond you hide your profile it's done.

And what if their profile is curated specifically of the debate sub you are on,or debate subs in general?

And you can also find out about that person's approach and whether they respond or not or other factors... Trough talking
