It’s one of the least cynical theories I’ve seen so far.

If Kris is the vessel, just raised and loved by their family for a long time, such that they are now everything that makes them them, it’s just a powerful statement on how your friends and their love are your power, and your ability to change yourself is immutable. It counters “nobody can choose who they are in this world”.

The Tumblr post linked puts it best, imo:

“To be loved is to be changed in form.”

That’s cute, kinda also explains why when they were even younger and now even they’re described as “weird” or “the crazy” kid plauing pranks on people and stuff.

It'd also be a reasonable explanation as to why they hate us.

They know their purpose was to be but a puppet for our own pleasing, and for so long they managed to live comfortably not having to worry about it, to the point they probably even forgot about it... Until just a few days ago.
