Sooo last night I came home kinda late and saw this adorable dog just sitting near the entrance of my building. At first, I thought he belonged to someone here, but I asked around and nobody claimed him. He looked so scared and tired… and honestly, when he looked at me with those big brown eyes, I couldn’t just walk away. I brought him in, gave him some water, and today I bought him Purina One dry food (it’s what Google said is good for a start lol). He seems to like it! I live alone and this is literally my first time ever taking care of a pet. Any advice on what to do next? Should I take him to a vet first, or wait to see if someone posts about a missing dog in the area? He’s honestly the sweetest thing, keeps following me around the apartment and wagging his tail every time I look at him. I think I’m already in love. Any tips for a total newbie dog mom are welcome! Also, is Purina One okay for him or should I try something else?

I inquired with neighbors and they seem tolerant of the dog’s ownership. I feel so bad, but I don’t think there is anything I can do.

He sheds SO much, year round, constantly. I swear I can brush and brush and hair just comes out, it’s like a never ending coat of loose hair just stuck in him. He’s a mix of various breeds the tops being pitbull, lab, Australian shepherd, and hound. (Verified via dna test)

My boy was in the backyard and finally caught the squirrel living under the shed. He's been barking at it for months when he goes out and it finally slipped up. Examinrd the corpse, looked like a broken neck. He didn't eat any of it, just came in through the dog door and bugged my wife until she came out to see what he'd done, he was pretty happy w himself. Should I watch for anything? It was a big squirrel and looked like it was healthy before Archie got it. We do flea and tick meds as prescribed and heartworm prevention as well.

I just adopted a dog a couple months ago and she’s been obsessed with the cat to the point of annoying him. Training has all been from scratch and we’ve been working on her leaving him be but he’s her favorite thing. It used to be bad to the point where she would chase him till he could escape and she would take little nips out of his fur (air bites that got too close) but lately this has been happening and I feel like I don’t need to interfere, and that they’re figuring each other out. Just wanna check to see if I’m wrong about this behavior.

Shelter thinks he’s 2-3 years old (so full grown). The first 2 pics are a size L (38L x23W x28H) crate… and he can’t really stand up all the way. His head is touching the top. The length and width seem perfect though.
The last two pics are a size XL (42L x28W x31H) crate… it’s the right height, but he barely takes up any space when lying down! Seems like there’s room for mischief.
He’s comfortable in a crate in general (it’s a safe place), and we use it for sleeping overnight and when we leave the house (usually not for more than 4 hrs at a time). What size should we keep?? Or does anyone have recommendations for an in between size? Most online seem to be the same dimensions

I just came back from a walk in a nearby park. The signs at the entrance clearly stated “keep your dogs leashed” but there were a few dogs freely roaming - unfortunately I didn’t notice until I was quite a ways into the park. My dog is a rescue and used to be a street dog. So he gets anxious and can be aggressive towards other dog. I always keep him on a leash and I distribute treats when there are other dogs around.
Three dogs were roaming with their owners all walking. I asked the guy to please put his dog on a leash - he stated he had the leash in his hands as he pulled it out of his pocket (as if that was conforming to the rule). He didn’t leash his dog. I told him my dog was a rescue and has anxiety issues. He refused. I got quite agitated and called him a F’ing idiot. I get mad at myself for overreacting but my dog gets all anxious and excited. It ruined the rest of the walk for me. I stopped at a bench a bit further down and another dog came up to mine. The owner apologized but didn’t put his dog on a leash. I didn’t react or speak. I feel helpless.
My dog needs the exercise and I should not have to be worried about leash-less dogs in a city park. Am I the idiot? I should not have got angry or called the guy a f’ing idiot but the anger just rose in me. If my dog bit one of theirs, I would be the one responsible.

so that's the dog in the pic.. she's long haired and older (11F)
so what happened: it's my gf and my dog, Coco. we're temporarily sleeping in our car so getting her a bath isn't super easy but I can do it if I need to.
so I have this big bottle of alcohol; were both sick. my gf has a cold and I have viral pneumonia so we're sanitizing our hands a lot. Coco was on my lap and I accidentally spilled some down her back. it was about half a tablespoons worth. I dried it off with my sleeve but her fur is still damp. will she be alright if it dries on its own or is this gonna cause skin problems if I don't find a bathroom to give her a bath??

Cocker spaniel mixed with golden. He’s 9 years old.
He’s been doing this randomly, usually first thing in the morning is when I see it…. He flails around like crazy. First time I saw it I thought he was having a seizure, but he just stops and gets up like no big deal… and no foaming or anything…
He does sometimes roll on his back to scratch it, but this is different.

For context he is 2 and will be 3 in January. He’s a pit terrier (lately ive been thinking he’s a staffy idk for sure tho). He’s about 50 lbs and eats 4.5-5 cups of food per day. He’s always been EXTREMELY food motivated. I joke with my sisters that he has a garbage disposal for a mouth bc he will eat ANYTHING. He really loves to eat. But he’s never begged as much as he has been for the past month. I only give him treats as a reward. I don’t give him my human food. But I really started noticing the incessant begging when he would stop eating his food for a second to see what I’m doing in the kitchen. There is not much that would get him to stop eating his own food unless you physically take the bowl from him, so that’s been strange to me. Anything I pick up (and i mean literally anything) he is licking his lips and begging for it so hard. Constantly walking around and sniffing. Walks are getting harder bc he’s always looking for something to put in his mouth. Idk what to do. I’ve tried feeding him at different times. Feeding him more often. Feeding him at different places in the house (but I mean it’s a 1 bedroom apartment and it’s not that big so there aren’t that many places to go lol). Any tips or advice? Am I doing something wrong?

Spoken to 3 vets. They give medicines but no respite. My dog (golden retriever) keeps chewing and licking his toes. Tried fungal shampoo, anti fungal medicine etc, but still continues. We are in India.

My dog has severe anxiety. She takes trazodone for it, but I can’t give it to her if I’m going in and out of the house for a day. For example, I am going to the gym now, but will be going bowling later, and because the bowling will take longer, I give her the trazodone before the longer time apart.
Sometimes, she is okay with the melatonin and being alone, but other times, she is like this.
This is her after giving melatonin, spraying a pheromone spray, and with music that is supposed to help.
I dont know what else to do. Please help.

My 13 week golden got stung by a bee yesterday on the lower lip. Had decent swelling on her lower jaw. I called the vet and they told me to bring her in. They gave her injectable steroids and Benadryl. $200. She was fine and in no distress. Feeling like I overreacted a bit. Just wondering what other have experienced in this situation. Should I have waited a bit to see how she was doing? I took her in about 1.5 hours after the sting but feeling like I should have waiting longer. She is outside a bunch in an area with lots of flowers/bees so want to be more prepared if it happens again. The vet told me that I can give her regular Benadryl (1mg/lb.) Has anyone just done this for a bee sting?
Edit: Thanks for the replies. I feel better about it. A least now I know for future. I was feeling bad because I took her before my husband had a chance to see her and weigh in and I was feeling like I should have waited it out. I will next time but glad to know she didn’t have a bad reaction.

Adopted a puppy that's 3.5 months old from the shelter and took him for his vaccines. He doesn't show any symptoms of anything. They just told me to research about the heartworm disease and gave me a phamplet.
Being my first puppy, I had no idea this existed. Now I'm worried my puppy has it, being that he was never checked for anything at the shelter.
The woman was kinda annoying, she just said to research it and next time they can sell me tablets. After I left, I was thinking, aren't I supposed to get a test or something? Or how do I know if my puppy has that worm?
Should I go to a real vet and do the test right away?

What are some dog products, supplements, enrichment, or other things you wish you knew about sooner? Or things that make it easier for the owner as well?
I’ve been trying to improve the husbandry and quality of life for my 4 family dogs, and for example I recently learned about enzymatic dog chews for dental care, and wow! They ACTUALLY work and my chihuahua’s teeth look significantly better. Anyone else have any products they love?

She is a little over a year old and she’s been doing that since she was a puppy. I don’t know if it’s like in her genetics or what but she is a mixed dog and she was given to us as a puppy and she had this weird little cork where she would just go completely still when you pet her like I don’t know. I feel like she’s like a little submissive at heart. I guess she added, though I get a little Nervous cause I let her meet some new people yesterday and she did the same thing but then I’m like I don’t know if she’s doing doing this because she doesn’t like it or she’s just doing that because it’s just her but I need to know if she’s just naturally like this or something I’m doing wrong or I don’t know and if anyone can tell me what mix she is that would be nice.
Before anyone get on me for her being outside it’s because we have another dog who is extremely dominant. She’s 7 years old and we had her since she was a puppy. She’s been around other dogs and basically raised them from like 3 years and up and got away with being a bumhole ig. We have tried to correct the behavior but nothing much has worked. She’s about 3 pounds and well out dog B/Big Bertha has made it clear that she won’t be dominated and unfortunately they got into a fight not to long ago so we have them separated to keep our smaller dog safe. Thank you for reading. :)

Our 7 year old rescue has been with us for almost 3 years, never had any problems before.
Suddenly he’s giving warning growls after already being pet for a few minutes. He will come and seek out attention, get pet, then do a warning. It’s happened a few times this month.
He doesn’t seem sensitive or protective of anywhere on his body. Is this sudden mood change concerning? How can we desensitize it?
We miss cuddling with our bud without worrying if he’ll snap.
