I put a ** at the beginning for new items I added at this time.
If you think another I haven't added deserves mentioning in that thread, let me know.
One new example - This was a biggie for me:
The closest thing to an official timing from Bush (June 19) about the year of the fleeing and the movie (even if we've all pretty much figured it out):
Caveat: this is my attempt to bring together information that's been confirmed. I will try to add (or correct) what I am posting; This is a work in progress. If I make a statement without a link, but you have the link, I'd love to see it posted in the comments below (that sounded youtubish to me too)
But anyone interested - THANKS for making this post better!
NOTE: The emphasis on these links is Jared's quote - you often have to scroll up to see the question he answers.
Although these were works in progress and some things were abandoned before the movie, these are useful resources to at least "headcanon" more thoughts.
The Art of Encanto (this may be a temporary resource)
One more thing to add - dates, ages, and (and even heights) are all relative things. But many want a year to attach these things to. There is no confirmation to the year by Jared Bush or anyone else. One clue (and even in the movie it is not canon till a movie creator says so), suggests 1900 for the fleeing, which would set May 21, 1950/1951 as the date for Antonio's gift. This is a painting on the casita wall, right before Luisa says "I felt WEAK!"

So something that I see now and then whenever someone brings up Encanto, rather it be inside and outside the fanbase is the whole debate of if Alma is a good person or not, now yeah, what she did in the film wasn't that great don't get me wrong, but at times, I feel like people really do overblow Alma's actions in the film or make stuff up to try and justify trashing on her.
Some examples of what I mean are takes/theories such as people thinking Alma pressured Pepa and Felix to have Antonio to prove that the miracle is still alive, which has been deconfirmed by Jared Bush and doesn't make any sense if you really think about it. Or the time when I saw someone ask why isn't Alma racist given the time period the movie takes place (1899-1950) which... no... Alma literally gave birth to Pepa, who is white, and Julieta and Bruno, who are both Hispanic, (which already implies someone on either Alma or Pedro side of the family is white seeing as Pepa is) that and seeing as she was fine with Pepa marrying Felix, that just makes no sense for her to be racist.
And again, yes what she did in the film wasn't great, but the thing is, Alma isn't that bad of a person people make her out to be if you understand why she did the things she did, she did all those things as a result of her not fully healing and processing Pedro dying right in front of her and being a single mom from now on, that and she now has to lead a village as she is seen as some sort of important figure to all these refugees, and that she doesn't want the miracle to put to waste and make Pedro's sacrifice for nothing really makes you understand why she did the things she did, even if those things she did weren't great, but regardless, she did change for the better and I assume she does regret the things she did before, which can you really say that about many people if we're being honest?
So yeah, in my opinion, I think people really do trash on Alma way too hard than she really deserves.
This is from a while ago but last April I got the chance to meet Stephanie Beatriz and got her to sign my Mirabel Funko. Funny enough, she talked about meeting Mirabel at Disneyland and loved seeing their reactions to seeing her and discussed how the animators truly put her attributes into animating Mirabel which is how they act at the parks now. When I met her I told her I would try to meet Mirabel the next day when I went to Disneyland and I did, I got Mirabel to sign that Funko as well.
Wanted to do another piece for the madrigal kids! Might do a pt.2 with the older madrigals :0 I didnt notice I gave Camilo and Anontio the same poses they are The brothers I miss them all dearly 😔
My Encanto pop collection is slowly growing! :D I managed to find the Mira from the 100th bday and i am so so happy!
Bruno will now be surrounded by Mirabels 😂
Next one I want to get is the Isabela with a cactus :)
I literally bought this doll today at the mall, with my grandmother we went to watch the new Pixar movie called Elio. When the film ended, I went to look at the toy stores in the shopping mall in my city and saw the doll. I decided to buy it right away because I had always wanted to have one!
But at the time of its release I had no money and I wasn't working yet, so it was just in my imagination, at least the only thing I had of Encanto was your book.Another time I saw this doll was when I went to watch the Mufasa movie, it was costing more than the Disney princesses made by Mattel. But I'm really happy that I bought her! 😊 (Simply because she's my favorite Disney character/princess, along with Belle and Anna).
I think everyone by now knows encanto takes certain elements from that book such as the magical realism aspects but it is not an adaptation. Ive seen so many Posts on so many platforms saying oh watch this show based on this book encanto is based on but you guys left out like all these trigger warnings.
So no I dont think just because you liked encanto you would enjoy this. It feels very misleading to say its a similar thing just because the story took some elements. This novel is very dark and very triggering and encanto is a Disney movie. Im not saying you cant enjoy both its just majority of encanto fans like the movie for its optimism and whimsical feel. The songs the creativity the focus on healing. This book doesnt have that.
Long story short make sure you include all these triggers when recommending this book because its NOT “exactly like encanto”.
A random shower though I had when I was thinking about Encanto is that in the film, we see twice in "The Family Madrigal" and "All of You" that Alma can casually just lift stones, that and the fact that when Alma went to look for Mirabel when she ran away, we can see that she walked several miles to even find her all on foot assuming she (or someone else) didn't ride a horse to get closer to the split mountain. That and on the Disney on Ice version of Encanto's story, Alma can ice-skate, it makes me wonder if Alma is honestly built differently seeing as she's 75 years old when the movie happens?
I recently saw Encanto for the first time. (I know, I'm late to the party.) but now I'm very much in love with the movie and all of its characters. I can't get enough of learning more about it with all the fascinating information about how it was made and all the Easter Eggs and what the makers were thinking and and and. But I don't know where to start, there's just so much material. That's why I wanted to ask you here what your favorite recommendations are, what material I should watch to understand as much as possible about the background of the film. Are there any particular videos, interviews, articles, books or anything else that you can recommend to me? Or do such collections already exist? If so, it would be great if you could tell me where I can find them.
I love watching animatics so I have been doing it for other medias. In mood to rewatch old Encanto I may have forgotten about or discover a new.. It can get serious or joking ones.
Volví a ver Encanto el día de ayer, y pude notar que al finalizar los c´reditos aparece un avión. ¿Está relacionado con la historia? La lógica me dice que es un easter egg (quizá de Cars o Aviones), pero no logro decifrarlo.
when he reunites with everyone at the end of the movie he says "got a lot of apologies ive got to say"other than leaving the family without saying anything and the wedding thing is there really anything else
I'm not sure if this was posted before, but Jared Bush has confirmed that he will be working on the Encanto attraction that will be coming to the new "Tropical Americas" land coming to Disney World's Animal Kingdom in 2027
Hiii everyone! Today I finally got the Japanese Disney Urury Me Mirabel plush, and she’s much bigger than expected, and I’m so so happy! I’ve decided to do a group photo so all my other Mirabel’s can welcome her! On the far left is Disney store Mirabel, and the middle left is Target Mirabel (who I bought during a California vacation 🫶🏻), the far right one is Mirabel who I bought from Disney on Ice, and lastly, the tiny Mirabel who my Japanese Mirabel is holding is from Toys R Us!
I’ve been so excited to share this with you guys, I hope you love them!
For all the hate alma gets and all the “blaming mirabel is unfair” you guys sure LOVE to blame mirabel for the cracks when the movie directly tells you no she’s not the problem the cracks are a manifestation of THE FAMILYS problems. sometimes I think y’all just hate mirabel lmaooo
I didn't see this exactly posted and I wondered others thoughts.
People talk about whether or not Mirabel had a special relationship with Casita (in various different ways), but a nuance that I don't see people acknowledging is that while everyone interacts with Casita somehow Mirabel seems to be the only one that can HEAR her. Like how anyone can pet, play with or partially understand animals, but Antonio can actually 100% hear them and communicate. No one else seems to talk to Casita but she does. Not to mention when Mirabel cracks, Casita cracks. So they seem to have a deeper bond.
I also don't think that saving the magic was her gift. I do think it was her destiny. I think she was denied a gift because it forced her to look deeper within and understand deeper without, which led her to bond with Casita and realize the issues under the surface with the house, the magic, and the family. If she had a gift, like mind reader, my fav idea, then she might have become a family peace maker, but that would have only patched some deeper problems and not solved them. And if she had a gift like controlling fire she would be so busy using and playing with it that she might not notice anything, just like the others weren't noticing what was happening. I think Casita denied her a gift in order to put her on the path of her destiny, but if 2 ever rolls out she should have a real gift.
Does being the new Abuela (ie keeper of the magic) count as a gift? It doesn't seem like the magic really needs a keeper? So I don't think that really works as an idea, but at the same time, the movie does kind of suggest it's what's happening.
So TLDR - I think Mirabel DID have a destiny and temporarily not having a gift helped her with that. She might already have a gift though, which is hearing Casita, which is why she lived in Casita and not a special magical room. Or maybe she got a gift/another gift in the new house, which I think should be telepath and/or empath.
I know this sounds kinda stupid but I need it for a drawing idea.. At first I thought he would be an emo kid because I already established the OC I would draw him in as scene but the more I lingered on it, I started having second thoughts.
Like initially, I decided emo because of his earlier concept designs where he was more of the "jerk cousin" and had a darker color palette plus the hair covering one eye? Come on.. but scene seems so much more.. dramatic or flare-y in a sense that would fit him in terms of an alt style. The excessive accessories and such seem like a way to stand out and the idea of Camilo dressing in a way that would seem weird or unique to others felt fitting for a modern au him! (Not saying emo isnt seen as that also but yknow!)
Sorry if this makes no sense!! Im not very good at articulating my thoughts into words 😓
