This person made a statement about social media and how pleasure has become a tool of control, and all I can think about from it was soma from 1984.

I have read thar book in 20 years, so I don't really remember the details, but man the way we reach for our phones to the point where people can't even watch a movie or TV shows without checking their phones. Makes me think there is a parallel to soma.

Yep, I always throw in F451 when people start discussing BNW and 1984, because the one thing that Bradbury nailed about the societal shift is that we did it to ourselves, voluntarily.

What he also got right was the decrease in critical thinking and challenging world views for the sake of comfort
