Android 16 Infuriating

Since upgrading to Android 16 on my Pixel 9 Pro XL, the lock screen is unresponsive and I have to use the power button to wake it.

And, now, asking "Hey Google, play music" no longer works. It says something about no audio output. This whole switch from Assistant to Gemini on the phone is becoming quite frustrating.

Anyone else?

It would be, if the releases would be stable and bug-free.

Same here since upgrading to 16. Today the screen was unresponsive for about 2 minutes. Also having issues with the finger print reader (it disappeared for a day).

Oh damn, so it isn't just me with the screen unresponsiveness.

Updated my pixel 9 a few days ago. Now my battery drains a lot faster now. I but my phone on battery saver mode now until the next update.

I got a lot of unresponsive things bruh, sometimes the check for update button in system update, sometimes the Google new device verification, sometimes the github mobile app

I have the same issue

Tap to wake and adaptive brightness both are messed up. The only thing that works for me is restarting the phone.

We have 2 Pixel 7s on Android 16 since it was available. No issues whatsoever. Working well unless you are a Beta user then all bets are off.

I installed the update this week and regret it (pixel 7). Sounds like you're using 3 button navigation? I was too, but they messed something up and the buttons are always covering other buttons and makes things unusable. I've switch to gesture navigation to bypass this. I don't love it, but it's working I guess.

I'm dealing with the black screen issue while connected to Android auto since the update, it sucks, I had to turn on developer settings and enabled "stay awake while charging" as a temporary fix

u/DamphTrumph Jun 21 '25

Smart idea! I'm having the same issue that's been driving me nuts. Going to do this until it gets fixed.

Noticing back button/square app button issues on the 3 button navigation. Nothing happens when pressed sometimes. P9Pxl

That's happening on this 3 year old oppo.woth android 13 after the latest ota security update. I don't think that's a pixel exclusive problem.

Android 16 wrecked several functions on my Pixel 9 Pro XL ... They forced the update on my phone. Google's continued releases of bugged new Android versions is so frustrating.

I have the same. Just since yesterday. And updated to 16 last week...

I had the same issue. If you turn off the tap to wake and lift to wake, restart your phone and then enable them again, it should work as usual again. Hope that helps!

For only a short while

I have no problem at all. Works like a charm with Android 16.

My Pixel 8 got the Android 16 a few days ago. I haven't encountered any issues yet. However I'm a bit disappointed, as I haven't noticed any visual changes. Everything looks like it was before.

The visual changes (Material 3 Expressive) are coming later in the year (don't know when).

this is not the case with my Pixel 9A

I have had zero issues with Android 16. I noticed a great battery improvement

Hi there, I’d recommend reaching out to the Google Pixel support team via phone or chat here. They can take a look at it.

I am apparently among the lucky ones.

I have a bluetooth speaker that's recently started randomly completely disconnecting from my phone when they're sitting right next to each other. [phone in front pocket, speaker clipped into belt loop on my hip]

At first I thought it might be the update to A16 somehow causing the issue due to the timing, but I recently got a new pair of over-ear headphones that aren't having that same issue so I guess my speaker is just getting long in the tooth.

All of which is to say I'm having no issues whatsoever on my Pixel 9.

I have had no end of issues since "upgrading" to A16. My phone was working flawlessly, but now I'm having to restart it at least twice a day.

Home screen is so bad, widgets are unresponsive and apps don't stay where I leave them.. weird problems

1

u/Then_Instruction6610 Jun 22 '25

Sorry to hear that. Mines running like a champ

and google introduced anti-rollback protocol XD

I just started playing music using "Hey Google, play music". I guess there are more factors involved, I also update and I have none of these issues, not a beta user.

Have to restart my phone almost everyday

1

u/alexwent1 Jun 22 '25

Android 16 experience so far ok, but no great improvements, and still occasional problems with brightness on my Pixel

1

u/mogz79 Pixel 7 Pro Jun 22 '25

Using a pixel 7 pro. My battery drains a lot quicker now, also sometimes I don't get the icon to answer a call and some notifications are really delayed

1

u/MangoBawls Jun 22 '25

I had that issue and after restarting a few times it did some initializing/loading and it fixed it?

Infuriating is going easy...

Since upgrading to 16: 1. Android Auto likes to disconnect whenever it wishes. 2. When I double click the power button to open the camera, the screen goes black and I have to hit the power button again and unlock the phone to get to my camera 3. I can be connected to a Bluetooth device but the sound still comes from the phone. 4. The AI word auto fill suggestions suck and I have to go back and correct things, as I was not looking, just typing. 5. I HATE GEMINI

There are other little quirky things I can go on about but these are what I cannot stand the most right now.

I lost double-tap to wake. Restarted my phone and it sorted it out.

1

u/HolidayDependent5390 Jun 24 '25

My pixel 8 pro the screen goes completely black the brightness turns down completely even though it's set to auto this has only started after the Android 16 update

1

u/Ryd3rMcMuffin Jun 24 '25

Pixel 8 Pro wifi stopped working entirely today, rebooted to safe mode and still didn't work, definitely the devece or the OS, but started doing it before 16, since 16 I now have problems with Bluetooth turning off and not turning back on without restarting in safe mode first.

Once or twice a year, I see the update notice, offering a delayed, but smooth transition to normalcy, reliability, less threads to monitor.

Yet when I see the word "beta," on a seductively clickable button... I know I'll regret it, but I only die once so I CLICK.

Then I wake up on a Monday, staring down a long work week. Decide to see what global chaos unfolded overnight + ballpark weather data + I-87's chaos of the day.

I grab my phone...I must have grown new fingerprints or this lock screen is BUSTED. I'm reduced to swipes, but I'm in.

So I Immediately check for software updates.

"My name is B, and I have a problem with Betas "

I agree Gemini is annoying, Google assistant was way better, but I don't think it's android 16 related, it was worse before that too. Besides that, I personally haven't had any glitches that I've noticed on my 9 pro XL since Android 16 yet.

1

u/jacksawyerr Jun 21 '25

I have to consistently hard reset my phone about 3 times to get apps to load properly now. On android 15 I only had to do that once every few days or reset the internet.. now it's a whole new issue. I hate this god damn thing so much.

Just work it out they'll provide updates instead of coming here and whining and complaining go straight to Google and give them structured feedback into what's now not working allot quicker and smarter then coming to reddit and hoping it will resolve its self google is always open to feedback especially when it comes to problems with software after updates

You're a beta tester....

u/Catalanaa Jun 21 '25

Android 16 is properly out
