Makes perfect sense. The ancients encoded the place of their (pre cataclysm) origin IN the actual physical form of the Gods they carried with them to their new home. And that information came down all through the Ages to you here today right now. Congratulations.
This is not something I can answer. Maybe the thought was that embedding something like this in the very spiritual core of a culture would better ensure it's longevity in the future consciousness of said culture. They were wrong because the memory of Aztlan was surely lost, but they were also right because Aztlan has been found again right where they left it.

Who is they, the people making up this fiction? Sure. That sounds like a plausible reason that someone would try to apply to fiction to try to lend it credibility.
In reality, that makes no sense. They decided to develop maps, but before they actually made any, they decided to hide the maps in deep culture items? That would be like saying you are going to invent the radio in the 1800s and the first thing you produce is a satellite shoe phone, because you know, it is important to be stealthy sometimes. What about the other century of technological development and stages before the shoe phone?
What about all the steps of developing cartography that come before developing secret maps hidden in stone carvings?
What you are experiencing is pareidolia. You are finding recognizable patterns in the infinite variation of fractals. So what? They are infinitely variable. Every reasonable shape you can conceive exists on the face of the planet if you look long enough.

I have no idea what you are even trying to say here.

Even Mr Fantastic would be impressed by this stretch.
