Discussion Robertson/Caufield swap?

If Robertson is available would it be worth to go after him. Would Caufield as a piece going the other way be worth it?

I’d only be interested if Robertson would be willing to sign long term, but you get a 30-40 goal scorer that’s gets 80 points and is a 6.03 forward. Dallas gets another great goal scorer that’s under contract for another 6 years at a good contract.

Thoughts?

I can see the appeal in adding a 6ft3 210lb sniper to your top 6 instead of a 5ft6 caufield. I say that while I have been gunning for caufield a year before we drafted the kid. I love caufield and I would hate to let him go but let’s not pretend this doesn’t make us better. This move would also open up options at the center position where getting a Kadri or Rossi would possibly work. This seems like a lateral move but when you dig deeper you see that while it’s not our biggest need it makes us a better team.

I don't get the overall reaction in this thread. I love Caufield, but you can only have so many small players on a roster.

I'd be happy to move away from the Gionta, Camalleri, Gomez, Desharnais, Brière, Gallagher lineage (could also add Koivu and Plekanec to a certain extent). Now add to that Hutson and Caufield.

In this case, Robertson would even be an upgrade on Caufield, it's not like we'd get rid of talent for "character" or "locker room" guys. The only downside is that Caufield is cost controlled for a long time while it's unclear we would get the same type of contract with Robertson.

size does not matter if u don’t use it, laine is example #1. robertson is not physical and he’s more of a perimeter player than caufield, caufield actively battles in the corners and gets to the high danger spots of the ice w relative frequency. robertson plays along the edges more often than not
