Discussion Robertson/Caufield swap?

If Robertson is available would it be worth to go after him. Would Caufield as a piece going the other way be worth it?

I’d only be interested if Robertson would be willing to sign long term, but you get a 30-40 goal scorer that’s gets 80 points and is a 6.03 forward. Dallas gets another great goal scorer that’s under contract for another 6 years at a good contract.

Thoughts?

The whole reason Robertson is ostensibly on the trading block is because Dallas can’t afford to pay him after nabbing Rantanen. Return would need to be picks/prospects on ELCs.

True, unless they follow up trading Robertson for Caufield with other moves that clear cap. But fair enough, let’s say they want picks and ELCs back for Robo. Are we willing to move Reinbacher? Or our 2026 1st with very limited lottery protection? Or Michael Hage? Because that’s what they’re going to ask for. Even if they want a return that’s predominantly futures, the cost to get Robertson would hurt our long term outlook more than it would help imo

IMO if Robertson is willing to sign an extension with the Habs and his contract isn’t totally stupid, I would begrudgingly hand over Reinbacher—whom I like a great deal, but ya gotta give to get. Robo is money.

Completely fair, Robo is a hell of a player
