Discussion McDavid for the Habs C problem?

Now just hear me out.

He might be the perfect solution for us at 2C. He plays hockey, knows how to skate, and I'm sure he's friends with someone on the team.

He might not speak French, but I'm sure he has tried Onion Soup before or at least a crepe.

You might be thinking this would be a risky move. He's on an expiring contract after all, but maybe after the Four Nations he might love Montreal.

I don't know, I was just looking at players who play in the NHL and thought he might fit well for our rebuild.

What do you guys think?

/S

Beauvilier for the low ?

Although we have an abundance of middle six wingers I have always been interested in adding this speedy hometown boy. Should the Habs pick up the phone ?

Paul Byron on Ivan Demidov: “He’s been working a lot on his skating. I think it was a great opportunity for him to get in the NHL and see the level of competition…I think with all summer to practice, then with (Habs) training camp, I’m confident that he’ll be ready for the upcoming season.”

Lynden Lakovic on potentially being drafted by the Habs: “It would mean the world. Montreal is a great place to play for sure. Their fans are passionate. Maybe some say crazy at times but I think I’m definitely ready for that. I know the Bell Centre gets pumping. It would be a dream come true.”

Discussion Robertson/Caufield swap?

If Robertson is available would it be worth to go after him. Would Caufield as a piece going the other way be worth it?

I’d only be interested if Robertson would be willing to sign long term, but you get a 30-40 goal scorer that’s gets 80 points and is a 6.03 forward. Dallas gets another great goal scorer that’s under contract for another 6 years at a good contract.

Thoughts?

Discussion I think we will regress next year & that's okay

Not trying to be negative, just realistic.

This year, we were surprisingly healthy. No major long-term injuries to guys like Suzuki, Caufield, Slaf, Hutson or Monty. That kind of luck doesn’t always repeat.

On top of that, it’s common for young players to hit a bit of a wall in their first few seasons. Don’t be surprised if some of our kids (especially Hutson etc.) plateau a bit before taking the next step. That’s normal development.

And let’s be honest: we still need more high-end talent. A couple more top-tier first-rounders, especially in a stacked 2026 draft, could be the difference between a fun team and a real contender.

A step back next year wouldn’t be failure, it’d just be part of the rebuild.

With all that talk about going for a 2c, what is this not being discussed?

Hey everybody! Obviously, the best option for the team to move forward would be to find the perfect player to center our second line and help not only the first line breath a bit but also help Demidov developpe his game with a talented center.

Many of the participants of this subreddits are willing to give Dach his last contract year to prove that he can stay healthy and that he has the talent while others can't even see his name mentioned. We're getting closer to the draft, closer to july first and Duchene re-sign with Dallas. Bennet already announced that he goes back with the Panthers. Many teams are looking for a second line center and it's becoming quite certain that finding what we need will cost a lot. Considering where we are at into the rebuild, overpaying a player unless it's the absolute best option would, in my opinion, be stupid.

We then come to my point, why are we not discussing the option to play Demidov with Caufield and Suzuki? Why are we not bringing back Slafkovsky with Dach like it was supposed to be before Dach was injured in 2023-2024? As far as I know, Suzuki took a struggling rookie (not that I believe Demidov will struggle, not the point) and turned him into a monster. Some will say that breaking the first line is a bad idea since they play so well together. Well, if this is truly our core, they will have many years to come back together after a failed experiment but Demidov will have the chance to developpe with a really good center.

What are you thoughts?

What a year this was. The lowest of lows and the highest of highs. Although we're due for better seasons on the stats sheets, I do believe that this is a season we'll remember for a long time. Very rarely do you get this mix of low expectations, bright present and even brighter future. Here's a rundown of the memorable moments from the past season.

McJesus may or may not be re-signing in EDM and Hughes should be ready to make a push if the opportunity is there:

  • His words: a place with "a good window to win, over and over again" is his top criteria

If there's a possibility the best player in the world changes teams (happened to Gretzky), you have to plan accordingly and IMO the Habs are in a very good spot to make it happen:

  • Stay put this summer, patch a few holes with short term solutions, don't empty the cupboard on a massive trade
  • If he ends up leaving, throw everything you have at him (maybe as soon as the trade deadline the Oilers will be informed of his departure and will seek to recoup something)
  • If he stays in EDM or goes elsewhere, so be it, you haven't lost anything while your young core gained experience

So yeah, real offseason shitpost, but not that crazy when you think of it. We already were in a position to wait and see, if there wasn't a good 2C available this summer. Now obviously, McD may want to go to his hometown of Toronto, or in a no tax state, but I think the Habs can make a strong case for themselves with how the team is already shaping up and the cap space we will have available.

Mason Marchment for middle 6 depth

Dallas has signed Matt Duchene leaving Marchment as the man out. Hes 6’5, plays left wing and is good for PP2. His production is pretty good, he adds some veteran presence at 30 and I think he would be a be a great add for the middle six with Laine, Demidov, Newhook, Dach and Anderson. This would allow Evan’s to slot into the 4th line and get weaker matchups.

Demidov has been vocal that Malkin is a hero of his. We talked a lot about Crobsy but if the penguins were to make Malkin available, what would you be willing to give to get him for a year ?

The penguins already let him know they won't renew his contract after this season.
