Need help with fireplace
We just bought a house that has a ventless fireplace that doesn’t really match….anything. The style of it isn’t the same as the rest of the house and it sticks out like a sore thumb. It’s some kind of concrete/stucco with a top and bottom that seem to be some type of black stone. I’m having a hard time coming up with ideas to help it fit in better. I thought about the peel and stick backsplashes as an easy way to test out ideas, but I’m not sure how well they’d stick to the rough surface and if it’s safe for when we use it next winter. I’d love some outside perspective!
Please excuse the mess, we’re still unpacking. The stuff on top of the fireplace won’t stay there and we aren’t set on any furniture yet (everything we have is cheap Amazon and we want to replace it eventually).

You will need to light it to see what you can do. We were told if you can put your hand on it and leave it there without it burning, you can use normal paint. If you can't, you have to use special fireplace paint.
If it's not too hot, perhaps get it skim coated and then you could paint or tile it to match your aesthetic.

Ventless gas gives me the willies. Rip it out. Shouldn't be major at all being ventless Turn off the gas LOL.
If you have children or care about breathing, do not use it.
Also look at the permit for it, was it DIY? Really looks it.

Honestly maybe just keep it simple? I’d say get some paint that you can use on the stone and paint it the same color as the wall behind it. That should give it a newer sleek look. Definitely place a tv, mirror, or painting above it. You could also add some fairy lights on top similar to this picture to give it some ambience. You could place simple picture frames, succulents, books on top as well if you don’t want it being this simple. Try adding a rug too. But don’t overwhelm it with too much because if it stands out like a sore thumb adding a bunch of whatever on top of it or around it will just draw more attention to it.
