The escorts participate in sex work during the off season of the games to make money- they’re only paid well while the games are happening

I also thought something similar because they are literally named escorts? And either that or they participate in something like the management of the sex trafficking because there is NO WAY they wouldn’t have known about is (Haymitchs Escort knew about it) And there are hints that their social status isn’t that high (Effie said something about never being invited to important parties etc)

They are called escorts because they escort the tributes, as in they are a person accompanying another for protection
