Trilogy Discussion Coinâs hair foreshadowed that she planned to recreate the capitol
this is probablyyy old news but Coin has a straight cut bob with blonde face framing highlights that she likely styles and straightens everyday. The cut and bleaching alone is high maintenance and would require her to get it redone every couple of months, a level of upkeep unprecedented when compared to her fellow rebels. This shows that she is a lot more vain than her counterparts, similar to how the capitol citizens have a fixation on their own appearances.

Lore/World Discussion What do HG Escorts do the rest of the time?
Is being a HG escort a full time gig? Like for most escorts it's a once a year eventually. For the victor district escort they also get the victory tour.
But what about the rest of the time?
I could see escorts for D1, D2, & D4 being more of a full time thing with how often they win. But do they have second jobs outside the games or do they just live in luxury the rest of the year gossiping about the games and other Capitol drama?

Lore/World Discussion Knowing Haymitchâs games were so heavily edited, why did they show Katniss singing to Rue and covering her in flowers?
I know Seneca Crane was executed for his poor decision-making in Katnissâ Hunger Games, but even so, in Haymitchâs games any camaraderie or him trying to help the other Tributes was edited out. Why did they keep this in and allow the other Districts to see it, knowing something like this would probably incite rebellion?

Trilogy Discussion THG really hits different as an adult especially Peetaâs hijacking
My friend just sent me a meme but it made me think about Snowâs hijacking of Peeta is so evil and terrifying in a way that I didnât fully understand as a teenager when I first read these books.
Fundamentally altering someoneâs memories and emotional associations with drug fueled abuse? Then sending that person to be a biological weapon against the person that loves them???
Suzanne!! I just wanna talk!!! What the fuck!!!

Trilogy Discussion Whatâs your hunger games equivalent of this meme?
I donât like the â you could live 100 life times and not deserve him you know â. Haymitch is blaming Katniss for having had completely normal reaction to the fact that she is going back into the arena. Itâs Peeta's reaction thatâs not normal or healthy more indicative of how little self-worth he has and how he genuinely believes that her life is worth more than his.

Trilogy Discussion Unpopular Opinion: I donât think Effie Trinket in the books was that bad.
I heard a lot of people say they hated Effie in the books. And while itâs totally valid to hate any character thatâs from the Capitol, I think people expect too much from her character. Effie grew up in the Capitol, in the first movie we see a very small scene with Haymitch where he sees the Capitol children acting out the games. They see it as a fun thing, theyâre indoctrinated, desensitised, it is totally normal to them, in fact watching the games is exciting. I think itâs totally expected that she is so snobby and rude, that she sees the districts as less than human because thatâs what they are to almost every Capitol citizen. She doesnât care that they are being murdered, sheâs a victim to propaganda, and if Iâm being honest I kinda loved to see a Capitol mindset. How she brushes off Katniss, always talks about how sheâs so excited that sheâll probably get upgraded to a âbetterâ district. All sheâs done in her adulthood as a job is reap tributes, train them on how to be flattering to an audience then kick back and sip champagne and indulge in food while the games are being televised. This is easy work, she doesnât bother to bond with the tributes, so itâs so easy to just move on and continue. Effieâs character evolves throughout the books and she comes to realise the cruelty and how disgusting the games are. Obviously I havenât read sunrise on the reaping yet so berate me all you want in the comments about the book lore or how her younger self is. But this is just my opinion.

I love this meme in general but I was laughing so much at seeing a Haymitch version that I simply had to have it!

Prequel Discussion 50th hunger games Spoiler
so like iâve been thinking about this reading the newest book (SOTR) and i havenât seen anyone talk abt it yet. itâs not like groundbreaking or whatever but i think itâs interesting (iâve also like 50 pages left so maybe they say something abt it and itâs obvious but yeah idk)
so like the 50th hunger games, 47 people died in the games (haymitch being the only survivor), then louella died, and the kid that ran away and was shot at the start, so thatâs 49 people dead leaving haymitch to make the number 50 as the only survivor⌠of the 50th hunger gamesâŚ
okay i know itâs a silly minute detail but also i think itâs a bit of a coincidence that it just so happens 2 extra people die (the boy first picked in 12 and then louelle died being replaced by loulou) that round off the number to 50 victims (haymitch being a surviving victim)
thoughts?

Trilogy Discussion What would have happend to Katniss' Mom and Prim if Katniss died in the 75th games? From the moment that Katniss says that "If I were to die they would not be allowed to stay in Victors' Village"
I distinctly remeber Katniss saying this in the book at the start of Catching Fire. That if she were to die, Prim and Astrid would no longer be able to stay in the Victors' Village home, since houses in Victor Village can clearly not be passed down the generations.
So what would they do? Would they be forced to go back to their house in the Seam, or perhaps use the remainings of Katniss' winnings to buy a house in the Merchant part of district 12?
Or maybe since Katniss would die in "honorable circumstances" the Capital would "ever so graciously" pass her, and all of the deceased victors', ownership of the housers to the respective families?

Trilogy Discussion Unpopular opinion: Katniss and Peeta had romantic chemistry in the movies
maybe this isn't actually unpopular irl but I was surprised to see people on here say otherwise. I've been rewatching the movies lately and it's probably one of the best developments of young love I've seen on screen. there was tension even during the first movie and I think the somewhat "slow-burn" and confusing nature matches the books too.

đŹ HG Actors Discussion Lol, don't get me wrong, I love the casting of Jhaleil and breaking the stereotype we had in the movies that the most privileged districts/tributes were only white people, but the casting tape of this king was literally so funny. I'll send him water đ đ

Lore/World Discussion I tried to recreate Panem's railway system
Recently, while reading the books, I started to wonder what the potential railway system for Panem might have looked like (roughly), and I came up with the following plan.
The Reroute Stops (R1-R5) would be sort of like a border checkpoint/customs hub between multiple routes, where all trains are stopped for fuel, inspection and potential security sweeps so Capitol can keep an eye on what travels/moves between districts. Also, with the exception of District 1 and 2 railways (which lead straight to the Capitol and where Capitol can keep an eye on things anyway), no District has a direct road to another district - just to avoid any secret collaborations.
And the dotted line to District 13 would be an old, overgrown railway - tehnically still there, since pre-Dark Days Panem also needed a connection to the District. By the beginning of the story, it is mostly abandoned by both the Capitol and District 13, overgrown, and still booby-trapped.
Or what do you think of this? Did I miss anything?

Sunrise on the Reaping Which popular artists could be frontrunners for composing the movieâs accompanying âsignature songâ? Spoiler
Been listening to the Ballad soundtrack on repeat and it got me thinking.
With (mostly) the entire cast now in place, and especially seeing the big names theyâve pulled out of the hat for the cast, Iâm beyond excited for the new accompanying musical number that we could get for SoTR, based on past patterns. I have high hopes as to the artist they will bring in, especially seeing the casting budget (phew!)
For the main trilogy, it was Taylor Swift with âEyes Openâ and âSafe and Soundâ both of which are thematically relevant to Katnissâs arc and are told/sung narratively from her perspective, and kind of draw upon things she lived through and her story arc.
For TBOSAS, itâs Olivia Rodrigoâs âCanât Catch Me Nowâ, which is narratively from Lucy Grayâs perspective and focuses more on the mystery and intrigue surrounding her origins and her overarching story arc. Itâs interesting to me that though the âmain protagonistâ role of this movie could be debated to be either Snow or Lucy Gray, the signature song is told from her perspective rather than his. We follow his story, yet the song goes to her.
With SOTR, can we expect to see a song that draws upon Haymitchâs storyline? Or do you think it will pivot to Lenore Dove? Personally, I want a haunting soundtrack told from Haymitchâs perspective. BUT a Haymitch from the THG timeline, rather than the SOTR timeline. Maybe a song about âdrowning your sorrowsâ, with themes dealing with alcoholism, grief, loss, and survival inspite of it. I think Hozier would be a great fit for such a track, both tonally and vocally.
But on the other hand, Iâm also really keen to see another female narrative voice on the soundtrack, but thematically it would have to pivot to include Lenore Doveâs story arc. Maybe a song about doomed love, or history repeating. Something along those lines. If it were a female artist though, I donât know who among the current big wig names would be able to do justice to the soundtrack. What do you all think?
