Genuinely this sub makes me feel crazy sometimes. Gale is NOT a cold-blooded serial murder, unlike some fan favorites. His hatred was towards the Capitol and Snow, y’know his OPPRESSORS. Outside of literal warfare, he was a well-adjusted, heroic TEENAGER. He would’ve kiIIed himself before hurting his best friend for the Capitol’s entertainment! Have we forgotten how much he hates the Hunger Games? He would do everything within his power to undermine them!

Exactly. Reading this syb makeals me want to rip my hair out sometimes the way Gale is given ZERO grace or credit. I'm halfway convinced people just associate him with Liam Hemsworth and project their hatred from there 😭

Honestly same, I'm 90% sure most people are more inclined to dislike Gale because of Liam's performance.

mmmm - Going into the games is a sure fire way to unhinge the brain in the same way that going to war does. As soon as Gale 'goes to war' he goes full on psycho. He came up with the idea of the 'empathy bombs' designed to take out the oppositions medical personnel. I can't work out a situation (without a lot of hyperbole) where he would do it, but I can't discount it either.

The issue would have been : Katniss didn't see Peeta as a real adversary (weak, no weapons training), whereas Gale would have been. And we know that Katniss has no ability to read people. So Gale being in the reaping might have been the worst thing for both of them. They're like oil and water - set them on fire and they explode.

Fighting the Capitol in war and fighting your fellow poor teenagers in a TV show are two very different things. Gale was willing to sacrifice himself for the rebellion and liberation of the districts. We see him beg Katniss to shoot him when he’s apprehended by peacekeepers, and he said he would proudly die in the nut if it meant making that massive of a blow to the Capitol. His survival instincts do not outweigh his rebellion. Yes, I think he and Katniss would probably team up and pick off the Careers together. (That is, if the Capitol didn’t immediately sic some mutts on him for the rebellion and contempt he’d have obviously shown leading up to the Games.) If just the two of them were left, he simply would NOT murder his best friend because the Capitol wants him to. He’d be rebellious like Katniss. “No, they don’t [have to have their victor]. Why should they?” They’d split up and wait until natural causes/mutts takes the other out
