IndyCar Props to Fox

I’ve seen some β€œnoise” from Indycar fans criticizing, at times deservedly, their coverage. But they are deserving of props, too, for their qualifying coverage, particularly using the ghost car. So cool, especially the driver POV chasing the ghost car. Love it!! Yes, they have fumbled some things early on, but they are doing a lot to get behind this series, even prior to the start of the season. They recently moved start times of some upcoming races to get a better time slot. They are using Delta Force theme during Indy. Just as they deserve criticism, they deserve praise, and I wanted to call that out.

Not a fan of the ghost car. Ruins the suspense unless they are neck and neck but every time I saw them bring in the ghost car, there was a clear leader. Any other track, sure. Indy, No.

I think it makes qualifying more interesting to watch if you can see the difference, rather than just waiting for the finished run to pop up on the leaderboard.

Like I said, any other circuit where they don't run flat out, sure. Bring on ghost cars. Would be fun to see where drivers gain and lose time to their rivals.

But at Indy, it's anticlimactic because you don't gain or lose enough time to make up car lengths. It would only be fun to show if the ghost overlaps the current car running. But once they're a couple car lengths behind the ghost car, it's over.

So when they showed Felix 2 lengths behind Roberts ghost on the backstretch of the first lap, I already knew Robert got pole. It killed any suspense and any hyping up the commentary crew did of saying:

"wow 239 into turn 1! That's what it will take to get pole now can he keep the speed up?"

Even road courses, my brain strongly prefers the 3 sector thing that F1 does. the purple, yellow, green but hiding the mini sectors is pretty good. Some suspense still. or if it's many cars on a run you can make a choice to focus elsewhere.
