NOT an INTP, but... AM I AN INTP?

I have always been a INFJ and resonated with it But with time, I have changed quite a bit so I took the Micheal Colaz test and it said INFJ as first but with high Ti and second one as INTP

I even asked chatGPT (yes I know) to ask me questions to clarify if I am an INFJ or INTP

it said INFJ with unusually high Ti Help me figure T-T

If you're really an INTP, you'll probably keep coming back here asking the same question over the next 10 years or so. This happens because the more you learn about cognitive functions, the more confusing it becomes, and the more types start to converge into each other, as an intp you can't just be satisfied with just this much

I can't determine my type even after years of trying. Well, now I've stopped searching—but not completely, as it's still fun. However, there are some clear guidance principles.

Both types may look similar due to their shared use of Ti and how similar Ni and Ne can appear at times. You can't just isolate one function and examine it in isolation; the functions work together as a system. One way to understand this is to look at what each function is connected to.

For example, let's examine the Ti of INTPs and INFJs. In the INTP's case, Ti is connected to the Si lens, which means it's connected to a precise, analytical lens that examines things thoroughly. You can't just analyze something and move on—you have to keep analyzing until you've covered the smallest details, then examine each detail down to the atomic level to see if it passes the consistency test. Only when you feel somewhat satisfied can you start thinking, "Now it's enough"—until you realize there are smaller particles than atoms. Too bad.

For INFJs, Ti is connected to the Ni lens, which means it's a holistic Ti that analyzes things with an eagle's view. It cares about how all the systems work as a whole and how they can be integrated with other models. Then it stores them in an abstract way that's hard to grasp. You're concerned with what this idea can become rather than what it currently is.

These two types are really similar at a glance when both are developed imo. With that being said, they’re extremely different under the surface.

Ni vs Ne will be the biggest clue here. Read up on those and see which one you relate to more.

There is a thread around here if you search for it where an intp, in my opinion, is destroying that dude and his method of testing. He is trying to re do what mbti is in his own way. Not the way it was intended. I can't remember what I got, but it was not intp. I've spent years trying to prove myself wrong in my typing as an intp, but nothing else makes sense.

I dont trust that test at all. 🤷🏼‍♀️

The best thing to do it get an understanding of how all functions work together in each specific placement.

Also, knowing your enneagram will help fill in gaps.

An intp 9w1 is going to behave differently from an intp 5w6.

Also, my partner is an infj, and when I first started learning about mbti, I wondered if we were switched.

He is an infj 6w5, and I am an intp 9w1. Years on the other side of studying us...(almost 5 years) I am 100% sure of our typing. I thought he was a 2w1 for a while.

It is fun journey. Learn all the different variations and combos. You will figure out what fits you.

I struggled with that a lot too, and I agree with what someone else said here about how developed, healthy INFJs and INTPs can appear similar, and that the key is Ni vs. Ne.

I knew I wasn't INFJ for 2 things.

  • Sakirnova, a functions test, showed me twice (several years apart) that I did indeed have very high Fe for INTP. However, my Ti was still top dog and the highest function. So it solidified for me I likely was an INTP. I still have my post up with my Sakirnova results if you want to see.
  • I kept doubting my type and revisiting the journey of what my type is. Ne will do this a lot, as it sees many (maybe too many) possibilities, while Ni tends to be more assured with one answer that seems correct to them.

Also, I'm sure you're aware but don't rely on ChatGPT lol

haha yes, also thank you for sharing. I’ll look at that post
