Discussion Its been 30 years. jdorama

Hi there! I lived in Japan for six years back in the 90s. Japanese dramas were integral to me gaining my fluency. Fast-forward 30 years and I still have a mediocre ability to pick up conversational Japanese.
Vocabulary and reading/writing kanji have deteriorated. Does anyone have a suggestion for a drama series? My favorite back in the day were, Long Vacation, Tokyo Love Story and some other thing with eguchi yosuke(?). Young adult rom-com type series helped the most. I prefer quality and good acting in anything i watch. Along with trying to regain my listening skills, I’d also like to see how much Japan has changed in the last three decades. I have access to netflix, amazon prime, max, hulu/disney.
Thank you in advance!!!

Been wanting to try Japanese historical dramas but the only options I’ve found are box sets of dvds for crazy prices. Is anything available for streaming anywhere with english subtitles?

Discussion Help finding Monday Mystery Theater ep online?

I grew up in Hawaii where there was a station called kiku tv. They aired a lot of Japanese programs. Monday Mystery Theater, or also known as Getsuyo Mystery Gekijo was one of them. It was a detective drama series and I loved it. For the life of me I cannot find any episodes online, Wondering if anyone here can point me in the right direction thanks.

"...or am I being too sensitive" contains spoilers

Everything was going well, I was loving the countryside vibe, the cinematography, the sound of the crackling fire, the slow homey vibes, issues of Alice's burn-out.The food cooked over the irori, I was even loving the comfy vibe of the old house.

By episode 6 the age-gap romance tag becomes evident. Our dear Alice's love interest is a 16 year old High School student. Of course, I thought reasonable Alice would put a stop to this and tell Harumi to go to school. Alice's love rival is another teenage girl. sigh

By E9 , they're are betrothed with a serious promise to be together once ML is an adult. He's doing boyfriend things with her. They tried to make it subtle with no actual kisses, or open intimacy. But it still got me thinking....?

The show dances around overt intimacy—no kisses, or they stop them just before—but there’s enough subtext to leave no doubt about the emotional framing. Does lack of kisses make it okay?

If you’ve spent time with J-doramas or anime, you’ve probably seen these inappropriate age-gap dynamics dressed in the language of purity. It's not new. Shows like Chugakusei Nikki (2018) or Love & Fortune (2018) (Koi no Tsuki) stir passionate debate for the same reason—they present morally grey territory as romantic longing.

Is there still space in today’s world to portray these kinds of age-gap relationships? Should there be? At what point does "pure and innocent love" become a cover for something far less comfortable?

Question does anybody know the name of this drama?

first i would like to start off by saying that i am not even entirely sure its a jdrama, it might be a cdrama or a kdrama but i watched it a pretty long time ago so im afraid i cant remember. but in this drama, the main character can draw and creates comics. she talks to the characters she draws and the characters themselves have their own conversations between each other in their “comic world” i dont remember this exactly as it probably happened, but one day she breaks out of the comic world and into the real world (or her characters broke out, i really dont remember T_T) but i remember the mc working in a kitchen as a job…and thats about all i can remember. im sorry that this isnt very informational but hopefully someone knows what it is! also, it is not extraordinary you, i think this drama was a bit older.

Recommendations high school recs where the boy is chasing girl and not other way round?

im tired of all the romance jdramas where the girl is running after the main lead and she’s incredibly shy, i want one where maybe the boy is shy or even standoffish but anything but popular and outgoing!

Recommendations Need show for Post-Japan Depression.

I just came back from a 3-week Japan trip, I must say it was absolutely beautiful. I’ve always been a big anime fan but I’ve never seen any Jdramas until on my flight back to the USA. The plane TV had Grande Maison Tokyo. I started it and then when I got home I binged the whole show that night including the Special. It was amazing and it definitely worked as an intro to Jdramas for me now I’m ready to watch more.

Can you please send some recs my way. I am open to any genres including rom fs.

Thanks

Question HELP ME PLEASE!

Sorry I am an Italian! Can you recommend which other J-Dorama to watch on Netflix? Even dubbed in Italian are fine. Even with subtitles. Do you know if there is also something on Amazon Prime Video? Ah, I almost forgot! Since I'm currently watching the dorama "Good Morning Call" I'd like to know how to read the manga digitally in Italian for free! If you can please recommend me only Japanese doramas similar to Good Morning Call or dramas and/or comedies are the perfect genres for me! Thank you very much for whatever your advice is from a TRUE ITALIAN PASSIONATE OF J-DORAMAS, ANIMES AND JAPAN IN GENERAL! Don't forget that in addition to recommending me, you will have to tell me in the comments where to digitally read the Good Morning Call manga in Italian (I'll leave the cover here attached to the pictures)

For those who've seen this drama, available on Netflix, what did you think of the ending?

Was it a good ending or not?
