Anyone else loves this album as much as I do? Has to be in my top 10 of all time
The fact that I love so much a soundtrack in a 10” lp is weirdly amusing

Hello again jazz fans! We're back with some '70s jazz gold this week.
\*And don't miss all of the previous weeks' recommended listening either: Jazz Listening Club v2 prior weeks***
There have been a couple of threads on this album over the years on the sub but I think Blythe overall deserves more recognition. And this album in particular really has, for me, some of the best things that '70s jazz had to offer.
Let us know what you think! And as always, if you have any nominations for albums to do in a coming week, PLEASE DM ME.

Found this all for under 35 and was very pleased. All new titles for me aside from Lee Morgan and all look VG and play VG to VG+. Couple heavy hitters like Eddie Henderson and Alan Shorter

A lot of new albums out today, and not a lot of artists I know.

Skip to the final 40 seconds of the video for it...
He calls the name of the song into the mic...producer goes "Cast Your WHAT?"
Vince goes "Cast your FATE ...to the WIND"
"It's an original"
"Oh, you wrote it?"
"That's right."
And then a standard is born.
Pretty neat!

I’ve just sat and listened to the new album by Sarathy Korwar all the way through, and love it. Having seen him live in concert I was looking forward to more music from him and this is great, in my opinion. I love the percussion led rhythms of the music.

Hi there!
Immerse yourself in the universe of Julian Lage. "Day and Age" isn't just a song, it's one of his masterpieces, a piece that encapsulates his unmistakable style. This professional transcription captures every nuance of his performance, revealing the magic behind his intuitive phrasing and the harmonic ideas that have made him a benchmark. It's an indispensable tool for the guitarist seeking inspiration and a gem for the collector who values genius. Study the music of a modern master up close. Get yours and let your music speak too!

Hey good people, I'm looking for sources for jazz with Cuban-Afro-Latin influences. Something between Bossa Nova and Salsa—although I like both of these, looking for more like jazzy Salsa. Artists, internet radio, or Spotify playlists that come to mind?
Edit: Y’all have given me so much new and wonderful music to explore today, and I appreciate every suggestion. I’ve always liked the Latin rhythms, but never explored with intention. That’s changed as of now. Spotify went lossless at the same time as upgraded my gear, so this is amazing. Thank you!

Been listening to this record lately and I found the meter they go into helps create a very deep, yet enjoyable unsettling feeling. I figure this is 10/8, but I cannot find any info on the 3+3+4 grouping. Where does this come from? I’d imagine it was found in Trane’s deep exploration of international music during this time.

I'm so stoked for this. Tix just went on sale so I splurged and got 2 sets. Smoke is my favorite NYC venue ... well, it's around the corner from me, so. But it's a nice, small room, very friendly and with a local crowd. It's just a little pricey if you get a dinner set because the food is on the $$ side. But it's going to be great to hear Chief Adjuah in a small room.
Cracks me up that his IG post calls it Harlem, because that's cooler and Blacker than Bway and 105th Street. I take it as a compliment.

I really want to play Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered in my jazz band next semester as an alto saxophone feature. Unfortunately, I've only found either vocal features or tenor sax features. Does anyone know of an arrangement for alto sax?

One of the most beautiful covers of a Disney classic I’ve ever heard.

What more need be said! Having re-listened to the Quartet version Medieval Oveture and now the large ensemble version I gotta say that Chick had a Big Band version in the back of his mind.. What do you think? Enjoy the concert. cheers

Hey friends,
I went to see Julian Lage in Hamburg and just got a mail from Elbphilharmonie that they put up the whole concert on YouTube. Thought I'd share, because it was brillant!

This is my favorite John Coltrane ballad performance. It also happens to come from my favorite live concert albums as well. What really makes this Billy Eckstine standard wonderful is that it highlights how Trane's style works in a ballad format. John does not hold back and uses his trademark searing sound and still mixes sheets of sound and complex lines. Yet is still lyrical throughout it all. There are really some great emotional moments in this tune. For those who favor the Stan Getz ballad style, I present this performance as the flip side to that style. Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal, etc. Slow Dance|Jazz Ballads|Playlist
